- Amanda sat in the dimly lit study, the crackling of the fireplace the only sound in the otherwise silent room. She traced her finger along the rim of her untouched glass of wine, her gaze distant. Vicktor leaned against the desk, watching her carefully. He could sense the shift in her mood, the way her shoulders tensed and her breaths came a little faster, but he said nothing. He knew better than to rush her.
- “You’ve never asked,” Amanda finally said, her voice soft and almost hesitant.
