Chapter 9 Refusing to Become a Scapegoat

  • Chloe clearly did not take Eloise's warning seriously. After tearing up the report, Chloe walked to the cargo cabinet and swept everything off the shelves.
  • "Since there are so many things here, you will probably need days to put them back in place, right? Don't worry. I'll come and watch you work every day. And don't even think about having a chance to rest!" Chloe crossed her arms over her chest and smiled triumphantly.
  • Raising a long and thin eyebrow, Eloise turned to call the company's security guards.
  • Chloe said, "Don't bother calling them. I specifically gave my orders to the people outside before entering the building. No one will come in even if you call them."
  • "Is that why you think you can do anything you want?" Eloise looked at the security camera in the right corner. "You can destroy everything here. Regardless of what you do, you still need to bear the consequences yourself."
  • "Do you think I would overlook the security cameras? Didn't you notice that all of them have been switched off? No one will know whatever happened here, and Deligrace Enterprise will make you pay for their losses until you go bankrupt." Chloe walked toward another cabinet and smashed the items on it as she spoke.
  • At that moment, Eloise whipped out her phone and recorded a short video, even managing to capture a clear shot of Chloe's face. When Chloe noticed that and wanted to snatch the phone away, Eloise had already posted the video on her social media.
  • "Did you just secretly record that?" Chloe shrieked.
  • Eloise replied sarcastically, "Didn't you say no one would know? Now that everyone knows what happened, you can continue to destroy the goods. When you are done, I will call the police. I don't think they would be blind and not know who the culprit is."
  • "How dare you go against me? Hand me the phone!" Chloe reprimanded.
  • Not only did Eloise refuse to hand Chloe her phone, but she also locked her phone. Chloe was livid and rushed toward Eloise, attacking her like a madman.
  • But Eloise moved aside and dodged her. Chloe missed her footing, tripped, and grunted in pain as she fell to the ground rather ungracefully. Instantly, her face was covered with dust.
  • At the same time, someone opened the warehouse door, and the supervisor looked at the situation in shock. She quickly rushed over to help Chloe up. "Miss Thompson, why are you on the ground? What is going on?"
  • Eloise explained, "Chloe was busy smashing our stock supply and accidentally tripped over. Miss Weis, how will she pay for all these damaged goods?"
  • The supervisor lifted her head and saw damaged goods lying all over the ground. Upon seeing several broken porcelain bottles with samples inside, the supervisor turned ghastly as she spoke in a shaky voice. "Miss Thompson..."
  • "This is all Eloise's doing. You can ask her if you have any questions." Chloe gritted her teeth and stood upright.
  • Knowing she had the recorded evidence, Eloise waved her phone and told the supervisor, "I have caught everything on video. Call the police. I refuse to be someone's scapegoat."
  • "But..." The supervisor looked at Eloise before turning to Chloe, who nearly became the company president's wife, and fell into a dilemma.
  • The messy-looking Chloe fixed her makeup and coughed awkwardly. "Miss Weis, I have been together with Mr. Barker for six years. The previous incident was just a misunderstanding, so I will still be his future wife after I explain everything to him. If I say that it was Eloise who smashed those goods, you should heed my words and act accordingly. I will take care of everything else."
  • No women had been seen around Jonathan for many years.
  • The only one who somewhat had a relationship with him was Chloe.
  • Everyone in Cythais knew that Chloe and Jonathan were a couple. Even before they planned on getting engaged, everyone had already assumed Chloe would become the company president's future wife.
  • Andrea Weis was extremely afraid of Chloe because there was still a possibility she would become the wife of her boss. Hence, she would undoubtedly be digging her own grave if she offended Chloe.
  • But after looking at the surroundings, she thought Eloise did not seem like the culprit.
  • "Eloise, clean up the place. I will help Miss Thompson dress her wounds first." Andrea thought about it and decided that she could not offend Chloe.
  • Eloise was unhappy with that. "This is not my job, so I will not clean it up."
  • "If you won't do it, pack up and leave!" Andrea supported Chloe and walked toward the door.
  • They're so delusional! Eloise laughed, thinking to herself how pathetic the whole situation was. She did not want to work there either.
  • It was during the afternoon when Jonathan received her resignation letter. He crushed the letter into a ball and asked, "Where is she?"
  • Zachary lowered his head and replied, "She left this afternoon. The warehouse was in a mess when she left. It seems like someone had smashed all the goods."
  • "Call the person in charge." There was a hint of anger in Jonathan's voice.
  • When Andrea entered the room, she felt something was not right and cautiously asked, "Mr. Barker, were you looking for me?"
  • "Explain what happened in the warehouse." The man's lips were slightly parted, and he emanated a powerful but terrifying aura.
  • Andrea turned pale. "I'm sorry. I did not know that Miss Thompson would drop by today, but I have already sent her to the hospital. I know it's my fault, but please let me off this time."
  • Jonathan initially wanted to ask about Eloise's resignation, but he frowned upon hearing her explanation. "Chloe came by?"
  • Assuming Jonathan was angry after hearing that Chloe was hurt, Andrea quickly explained in her defense, "Yes, Miss Thompson wanted to see you, but you were not in the office. She then wandered around by herself, but I did not expect she would get knocked over by our employee. Don't worry, Mr. Barker. I have ordered the new employee to resign, and she will never appear in the company again."
  • Andrea spoke with righteousness, and she even thought that she was being smart and decisive. Also, she felt lucky that she chose not to offend Chloe. Otherwise, she might have received punishment from Jonathan.
  • "Who gave you the right to make such a decision?" Jonathan slammed his hand on the table, his voice echoing throughout the office.
  • At that instant, Andrea's knees buckled as her legs went weak. The sudden change in Jonathan's attitude was simply terrifying. She was at a loss and tried to explain, "Mr. Barker, I heard that the new employee knocked Miss Thompson over, so I—"
  • "Find her. Or you can forget about keeping your job," Jonathan said ruthlessly.
  • Tears streamed down Andrea's face as she left the president's office. She could not understand what she had done wrong but dared not defy Jonathan. Later, she looked up Eloise's address and personally went over to apologize.
  • Eloise was very firm with her decision. "I will not return to the company. Please leave."
  • "I know you feel wronged, but Chloe has such a powerful identity that I dare not offend her, which is why I could only put the blame on you. I bought many things for you as an apology. Please return to work tomorrow," Andrea pleaded.
  • Her unusual behavior left Eloise curious, yet she remained indifferent. "You were the one who wanted me to leave, but now you are asking me to return to work. Do you think this is a game?"
  • "I'm sorry," Andrea expressed her apologies regretfully.
  • However, Eloise persisted, "It's the same answer for me. Please leave."
  • When Andrea saw that Eloise was about to close the door, she quickly blocked the door in a panic. Eloise frowned slightly and looked displeased with Andrea's actions. Knowing the other was angry with her, Andrea knelt on the ground. "Eloise, this is all my fault. Please don't leave the company. If you leave, I will lose my job too. I have to support my family and pay off my loans. You have to help me."
