Chapter 7 Such Women Are Not Worth It

  • Eloise did not know why she agreed to it, but she signed the contract that day itself and started work that afternoon. When she realized that the job was relatively easy and not as hard as she thought it would be, she made the decision to stay.
  • However, on her way home, she kept feeling that someone was watching her. Eloise turned back and saw a black Bentley parked in the distance. The car window had been drawn down slightly, so she could barely make out half of the man's face.
  • Is that Dexter? Well, why would that matter? Who cares about him?
  • When she was back home, Eloise and Jace had a video call. Not expecting to see such a luxurious and grand background, she frowned. "Whose house are you at?"
  • "Madam Aggie's house. She likes me a lot and whips up different snacks for me every day. I love her snacks." The child sweetly hugged his phone and rolled around in bed.
  • Eloise felt that it was not safe to leave Jace at a stranger's house and wanted to bring him home, but he decided, "I agreed to stay here for a week. If I leave now, Madam Aggie will be very sad. She is alone at home and feels very lonely. Mommy, can I stay for a few days?
  • "Doesn't she have other family members?" Eloise curiously asked.
  • Jace replied, "Madam Aggie has a son, but he got kicked out because he can't produce a child. She's so unfortunate to have a son who is sick. I want to accompany her for a few more days. Will that be alright?"
  • "Alright." Eloise did not insist any further. Later, she turned on the television and went to bed.
  • The next morning, Eloise cabbed down to the warehouse. Even though she barely did any work, she was still given a promotion on the spot.
  • After being promoted to warehouse manager, she asked the supervisor in a daze, "Do the employees in this company all get promoted so quickly?"
  • "You deserved it. The management has announced their orders. They hope you will work hard." The supervisor smiled and walked off. Once the supervisor left the warehouse, she whispered her instructions to the other warehousing staff. "The manager said we should 'train' our new staff properly. From today onward, you can dump your workload on her, okay?"
  • The staff exchanged looks and curiously asked, "Can Eloise handle all the work alone?"
  • "That is her problem. As for you lot, follow me to report to other departments." The supervisor led the staff away.
  • Eloise was the only one left at the warehouse. There were never-ending goods that required stock-taking, and then she realized that the people in charge of them were all gone. Therefore, she could only grit her teeth and do it alone.
  • After Jonathan cleared the last email in his inbox, he noticed it was already 2 a.m. in the morning. Feeling exhausted, he massaged his temples but then felt a pain on the back of his head. He opened his eyes. "Where is that woman?"
  • "She is still in the warehouse." Zachary bowed his head and reported.
  • While casually flipping through a file, Jonathan asked, "Has Tony Wyatt contacted her?"
  • "No, he has not." Zachary shook his head.
  • Jonathan pursed his crimson-red lips and said disdainfully, "What posers."
  • Nodding, Zachary replied contemptuously, "I wonder how Tony found a woman like that. She is gutsy and would do anything to achieve her goals."
  • Out of the blue, Jonathan seemed to recall Eloise's voice and froze for a moment, seemingly lost in his thoughts.
  • "Mr. Barker, did I say something wrong?" Zachary noticed the change in Jonathan's expression and hurriedly asked.
  • At that point, Jonathan was no longer in the mood to work. He closed the file and said, "Get rid of Tony. I don't wish to see him for the time being."
  • "Hasn't he been taken care of?" Zachary looked curiously at Jonathan and explained, "Last night, Mr. Cole went to Tony's office and dragged him out… uhm … and they got into a fight. You didn't know about it?"
  • "Dexter?" Jonathan frowned as he had not told Dexter about this matter.
  • Zachary did not expect Jonathan to be clueless about it and explained, "At first, Mr. Cole was only venting his anger but then got beaten up by Tony's bodyguards. Would you like to visit him at the hospital after changing your bandage? That could help to ease the tension between both of you."
  • "We'll talk about it later." Jonathan was quite tired. He dismissed Zachary and stayed in the office to rest.
  • It was already morning when he woke up, and he turned on his laptop to watch the surveillance tape of the warehouse. Eloise was seen sprawled on a chair, exhausted. He sneered and took his car keys to head for the hospital.
  • In the meantime, Dexter was in the VIP ward on the seventh floor, and his injuries seemed quite serious.
  • "What are you laughing at? Who allowed you to come in?" Dexter scolded when he saw Jonathan walking in.
  • Ever since Dexter found out that Chloe had gotten together with Jonathan, he could not help but dislike Jonathan as well. In that sense, he was always rude to Jonathan whenever they met.
  • Jonathan tossed the food he brought onto the table as a distinct arrogant aura surrounded him. "Is this your specialty? Getting into trouble and being sent to the hospital?"
  • Dexter stiffened, feeling quite embarrassed. "What I do is none of your business."
  • Jonathan then casually pulled a chair over and leaned on the seat. "Tony called for a lawyer today. He wants to sue you. Is this still none of my business?"
  • "How dare he sue me after doing such disgusting things?" Dexter was enraged. He tried to sit up, but the wound on his shoulder made him groan in pain.
  • His eyes reddened, and he gritted his teeth. It took a while before he turned to Jonathan. "You have to help me."
  • "On what grounds do I have to help you?" Jonathan tapped his fingers against the table. His lips slightly curled upward, and he behaved like he had nothing to do with those matters.
  • Lowering his head, Dexter apologized, "Mr. Barker, I'm sorry. I promise to stop being so hostile toward you. I know I am in the wrong, but you have to help me this time because my future happiness is at stake."
  • Jonathan raised an eyebrow. "How so?"
  • "She's back. Tony took her away from me back then, and I will not let her leave me again. So, you have to help me. I'm willing to do anything you ask of me as long as you can help me keep her here," Dexter swore.
  • Jonathan did not quite understand what Dexter was saying. "Tony stole your woman?"
  • "Yes, I shouldn't have kept my identity from her back then. This is all my fault. I already lost her once and don't want to lose her again. Please help me." Throughout all these years, this was the first time Dexter begged Jonathan.
  • If this was how Dexter usually spoke, Jonathan would have agreed without hesitation, but…
  • "A woman like that is not worth it. There are many other women in Cythais, so there is no need to be hung up on her."
  • Although Jonathan and Dexter were not extremely close, since Dexter acknowledged him as his elder, he would take responsibility for educating the youngster. Why does he have to be hung up on a woman? Besides, seeing that she was previously Tony's mistress, she's probably not that decent either.
  • The Cole family was a well-known family in the Cythais, and Dexter was the only son. Even if he was not interested in having a family of his own, he should at least find someone with a decent background.
  • On the other hand, Tony had a bad reputation. Although he had a family, he still fooled around with other women, and it was common for him to have many mistresses. Most of the women who got involved with him were not that innocent.
