Chapter 3 That Is Jonathan's Child

  • Chloe spent half the day outside the Deligrace Enterprise, pleading to see Jonathan, but to no avail. In her despair, a phone call came from the hotel, and she instantly overcame her fear.
  • Without further ado, Chloe drove to The Aether Hotel.
  • The doorbell rang, breaking the silence in the room. Jace, who was folding his clothes, yelled toward the bathroom, "Mommy, there is someone at the door."
  • Before Eloise could catch his words, Jace ran to the door himself. He opened the door and looked at the visitor in shock. Isn't this the evil woman from this morning?
  • Jace did not know the purpose of her visit and wanted to shut the door immediately, but Chloe quickly blocked the door with her foot. Then, she forcefully pushed it open and picked the child up roughly from the ground.
  • "Mommy, save me!" Jace was in pain and waved his hands, struggling to escape from Chloe's grip.
  • Eloise, who came out from the bathroom, witnessed the scene and quickly rushed forward. "Let go of Jacey!"
  • "Jacey? What an oddly cute name. It's such a pity that he has you as a mother." Chloe sneered and squeezed Jace's neck. Her gaze suddenly turned hostile.
  • "What are you trying to do? Let go of him!" Eloise stopped in her tracks and fiercely ordered.
  • Chloe carried Jace by the neck inside the room. Even after sitting on the chair, she still did not loosen her grip around his neck. "I heard you were investigating the incident from five years ago."
  • "That’s none of your business," Eloise said with a cold expression.
  • The grip on her fingers tightened, and the boy on her lap screamed in pain. She let out a faint laugh. "Leave Cythais, and I will take what happened today like it never happened."
  • "Our grudge has got nothing to do with the child. Let go of him first." Eloise frowned when she noticed Jace's eyes were swollen from the crying.
  • Chloe lowered her gaze to the child in her arms. "Nothing to do with him? If it weren't for this b*stard, I might consider letting you off the hook."
  • "What do you mean?" Eloise questioned.
  • Chloe sneered while she hid the envy in her eyes. "Will you leave or not?"
  • "No, I will not leave. Why do I have to listen to you? Had you and your mother not hurt me enough five years ago?" Eloise had never met someone as evil as her.
  • Was it wrong for me to try finding my child's father? Who is Chloe to stop me from doing so?
  • Chloe did not want to waste her time with Eloise. "Very well. If you choose not to leave, you can forget about getting back your son."
  • She carried Jace and walked toward the door. Jace was scared out of his wits and screamed as tears filled his eyes, "Mommy, please save me!" Eloise wanted to snatch her child back, but Chloe's secretary stopped her.
  • "What do you want? Let go of my son!" Eloise shouted anxiously.
  • Chloe looked at the child in her arms with disgust and warned Eloise, "If you don't leave Cythais, I will make him disappear forever."
  • "You are crazy!" Eloise roared.
  • "You can try pushing your luck!" Chloe smirked and turned to leave.
  • When Jace saw his mommy being held back by a man, he struggled to run over to Eloise. However, Chloe refused to let him go. Seeing that the malicious woman still held onto him, he shouted, "You bad woman! Let go of me! I want my mommy!"
  • "Kid, those who are not obedient will be thrown into the naughty corner." An evil expression crept up on Chloe's face.
  • Jace struggled even more, causing his neck to turn red from Chloe's grip.
  • Meanwhile, Eloise couldn't even get close to Jace and was afraid Jace would get hurt if he kept struggling. She pleaded with reddened eyes, "Jace, be good. Go with her. I'll pick you up in a few days."
  • "I don't want to go with her! I want to be with you," Jace cried until his voice turned hoarse.
  • "If you want to be together with your mommy, leave Cythais with her." Chloe then turned to order her secretary, "Watch Eloise, and don't let her step out of her room. Call me when she wants to leave Cythais."
  • Feeling annoyed, she carried Jace out of the hotel and casually threw him into her backseat.
  • Meanwhile, at the Thompson Residence, Phoebe was still bothered by the incident at the engagement party but could not get hold of Chloe the entire day. Upon seeing Chloe's car being parked outside, she ran out of the house.
  • "Chloe, I was worried sick! Everything was going well. How did it end up like this? Have you explained everything to Jonathan?" Phoebe had just finished when she spotted the child beside Chloe. Shocked, she asked, "Oh dear, who’s this child?"
  • Chloe threw Jace onto the sofa frustratedly and said, "Eloise's b*stard child."
  • Jace was enraged and retorted, "You are the b*stard!"
  • Hearing his response, Chloe towered over him and mocked, "Your mommy used to work as a nightclub hostess and slept with many men. You were born during then, yet both of you were audacious enough to mess up my engagement party. You and your mommy are both shameless people."
  • Jace's small figure froze. He had never heard such vicious words before, and his heart felt like it was being stabbed. Although upset, he wiped the tears from the corner of his eyes and cried out, "I am not a b*stard child. I have a father."
  • "Hmph." Chloe snorted. "Mom, bring him upstairs and lock him up. Don't let him out."
  • After Phoebe locked Jace up, she went downstairs and asked Chloe, "Is that really Eloise's child?"
  • "Who else could it be? That piece of trash actually got pregnant with Jonathan's child and brought him up. If only we had known this would happen, we wouldn't have freed her." Chloe's fists curled into a ball.
  • Phoebe gasped. "What did you say? He is… the Barker family's child?
  • "Yes," Chloe replied enviously.
  • She had spent six years weaving a web of lies, and it just happened that Old Mrs. Barker was forcing Jonathan to find a spouse, so Jonathan had no choice but to get engaged with her. But in reality, he had never even touched her these past few years.
  • If Jonathan knew that Eloise was the actual woman from that day and even had his child, Eloise would be a threat to Chloe!
  • Jonathan can never know of this child's existence!
  • Chloe's gaze burned with hatred. She was ready to discuss how she should deal with Jace when her bodyguard anxiously ran in. "I'm sorry, Miss Chloe, but Dexter is here."
  • As if the current situation was already troubling enough for Chloe to handle, Dexter's arrival made her even more stressed.
  • Six years ago, Eloise and Dexter were still a couple, and Chloe was afraid that he would take Eloise's virginity, which would hinder her from getting a good price for Eloise. As a result, she humiliated Dexter in Eloise's name and used the opportunity to cut ties with him.
  • Unexpectedly, Dexter, the originally poor man, suddenly became the heir to the well-known Cole Enterprise. During the past few years, he constantly appeared at the Thompson Residence, demanding to see Eloise.
  • He was so insistent that even Chloe was afraid to meet him.
  • "What is he doing here? Lock the doors and do not let him—" Before she could finish her sentence, a handsome man had already marched in and headed straight for the living room. "What did you want to lock? Is Elly here?"
  • Chloe immediately blocked his path and said flatly, "Eloise is not here. This is my house, so please leave."
  • But Dexter shot Chloe a sharp look. "She was at your engagement party, so she must be here. You better bring her out."
  • Chloe clenched her fists tightly. With how smart she was, how could she not realize the man was threatening her?
  • Over time, the humiliation that Dexter had suffered back then turned into hatred toward the Thompson family. It would be hard for her to get away if she refused to hand Eloise over today.
  • Abruptly, Chloe thought of an idea. "Eloise is not here, but her son is."
  • "She has a son?" Dexter was in shock.
  • Chloe pretended to be hesitant. "Yes, she does. She disliked that you were poor back then and decided to sleep with Mr. Wyatt. However, Mr. Wyatt was married, so she could only be his mistress. You should hate Eloise and not me since I have nothing to do with it."
