Chapter 8 A Bastard

  • At eleven in the morning, Donald arrived at the company, accompanied by Yves, who felt very scared. Apparently, she would be "evaluated" by her sisters-in-law, who would judge whether she is the ideal candidate for him or not, although he had already decided.
  • So, "What's the scare?" she thought, squeezing Donald's hand tightly as he led her to the boardroom.
  • On the way to the boardroom, many envious and intrigued eyes were awakened and alerted by their arrival. Yves's low-cut dress neckline was being observed very insistently.
  • "Ready to face the lions?" he asked when they reached the door.
  • "Yes, Donald, although a little scared, but ready, my love," she replied with a trembling voice, receiving a gentle kiss on her lips.
  • He turned the doorknob and entered ten minutes late, so all the shareholders and guests turned their gaze towards them, but especially towards the young woman accompanying him and her pronounced cleavage.
  • "Good morning," he greeted, not fixing his gaze on anyone in particular but with a satisfied smile on his face as he saw all the astonished faces. He didn't pay attention to this and looked for a chair for Yves, placing it on his right.
  • "Good morning," Yves also greeted, not letting go of Donald's hand and sitting beside him.
  • "Who is the young lady, brother? Remember that this is a work meeting, not one of the clubs you seem to be entering, despite your status and new position," his sister Jade interrogated, exchanging a furious look with her guest, Laila Thomas.
  • "Oh, come on, little sister! I was planning to introduce her at the end of the meeting, but since you're so anxious, I'll introduce her right away," he replied, smiling and looking directly into Yves's eyes, kissing her lips in front of everyone. Then, he extended his arm and his right hand, adding:
  • "Allow me to introduce Miss Yves Johnson, my fiancée and future wife," he said, showing his hand, where she wore her beautiful engagement ring. At the end of this sentence, one of his sisters screamed.
  • "What?!" Venus shouted.
  • "Your fiancée?!" Jade shouted angrily, completely hysterical.
  • "Where did you find this bitch?" Venus shouted again.
  • Yves, astonished by this welcome, looked at Donald as if asking for permission to defend herself, and he simply nodded. So, it only took a fraction of a second for Yves to respond:
  • "Madam! I remind you that on the day this bitch," pointing to herself with the index finger of her left hand, "was in her den, you were accompanying me, or don't you remember?" Yves asked with a defiant look, leaving everyone present surprised by her audacity.
  • "How dare you compare yourself to me?" Venus growled.
  • "You brought this upon yourself," her brother warned, angry with her.
  • "And how do you expect us not to think she's a gold digger, the way she dresses?" Venus replied.
  • "I personally love how she dresses. Well, in the end, she dresses for me, to show off her body to me, and no one else," he quickly and coldly glanced at those who had their gaze fixed on her.
  • Then, he resumed his right to speak as the CEO of the Institution and, therefore, presided over the Board of Directors, introducing Yves to all the shareholders, without including his sisters or Laila in his presentation.
  • Afterwards, he concluded the presentation and focused on the points that would be discussed in the meeting, especially the merger with the real estate company Thomas & Company, represented in this act by Laila Thomas.
  • The latter was one of the most astonished and, in an arrogant manner, tried to impose her criteria, disregarding the fact that the Evans still held the absolute majority of the shares and, therefore, the decision-making power.
  • Having finally agreed on the terms of this merger, with the participation of lawyers from both parties, Laila stood up from her seat and left, as she had attended the session trusting that Donald would have no choice but to commit to her, as his sisters had assured her.
  • As she left, Yves could perceive a gaze filled with anger and hatred towards her, both from the woman who was leaving and from Donald's sisters. As for the others, she could perceive admiration in some gazes and disbelief in others.
