  • “Thought you could run from me?” he mocked, crawling over her as she struggled, his breath hot and vile against her face. His hand moved, fingers cruelly tracing down her jaw, sending chills of repulsion down her spine.
  • She summoned every ounce of strength left in her body, twisting and scratching, her nails catching on his skin, drawing blood. He grunted in pain, momentarily losing his grip, and she used the moment to claw her way out from under him. Her vision was blurry, her lip throbbing, but she refused to let him break her.
  • “Brandon,” she managed, her voice dark and steady as she glared at him from the ground, “You’re nothing but a pathetic coward. You’ll never be an ounce of what Lucian is.”
