Chapter 3

  • “He deserves to die the most horrible death known to mankind!” Selene slammed the glass on the table.
  • After firing the door bouncer, Lucian instructed his people to give Amara and Selene the best table in the club. Amara rejected the offer and pulled Selene to another table where Lucian wouldn't be able to see her since it would be full soon.
  • After a few uncomfortable minutes, Amara and Selene took a few shots to take the edge off and after a few more, they were lively and bubbly again.
  • Amara had just finished telling Selene what had been going on for the past month and how she had hit rock bottom in her marriage.
  • “Tell me about it!” Amara sighed in agreement.
  • “You know what? Fuck Brandon and his bitch! Let’s have fun and get laid.” Selene said standing up to give her best friend another shot.
  • Amara stared at her in horror. “Selene! I’m a married woman please.”
  • “That’s not marriage babe. Trust me you deserve better!” Selene encouraged as she stretched her hand with the vodka shot in her hand.
  • “Do I?” she asked more to herself than to Selene.
  • Amara had always been reserved and never did anything against the book of conduct made by her mother but that day and for some unknown reason, she wanted to live. She wanted to forget the pain and just enjoy life even if it was for one day. She knew she would regret it the next day but she pushed the nagging thought aside.
  • Lucian who had been intrigued from the time he met Amara at the door had been watching her. It wasn't until Killian insisted that they go to his private room to talk about what they would do about his problem that he reluctantly took his eyes off Amara and followed Killian upstairs.
  • Amara who was oblivious to the fact that she was being watched grabbed the shot from Selene and drank it. “More!” She screamed as the hot liquid warmed her chest.
  • Selene giggled and grabbed more shots until they were completely wasted. The VIP club seemed to start getting full and the music became too loud for Amara. Because she had never had alcohol before, she was lightweight and a few shots got her extremely drunk.
  • “I need to pee!” She screamed over the speakers.
  • “Go upstairs! I think my legs can’t move!” Selene shouted back.
  • “Which door?” Amara asked.
  • “The first one on the right!” Selene responded as she placed her head back on the table.
  • Feeling dizzy and unable to stand steadily. Amara grabbed the table and laughed like she had just heard the joke of the century. With wobbly and shaky legs, Amara made her way upstairs.
  • Her phone rang when she reached the last staircase and groaned when she picked up, “What!” She hissed into the phone.
  • “Amara? Where the hell are you?” Her mother Lauren asked.
  • The loud music in the background got even louder but Amara was too drunk to care. A smirk spread across her lips when she thought of a sassy reply, “I’m at the office.”
  • “Don’t play jokes with me, young lady! Brandon has been here for an hour- Are you at a club?” Disbelief was evident in Lauren’s voice. "At 1 PM?!"
  • “Are you disappointed? I’m sorry Mum, I think I’m too tired to be perfect today.” Amara slurred as she leaned against the wall for balance.
  • Lauren looked at Brandon who was wondering why she had mentioned the word ‘ Bar’ and ‘Amara’ in the same sentence.
  • After hitting her, he felt guilty and returned home to apologize but couldn’t find her. He called the office but was told that she had not reported that day. Brandon panicked and rushed to Amara’s parent's house but was once again disappointed when didn’t find her.
  • “Sobber up and get here right this instant!” Her mother moved away from Brandon and hissed into the phone. "What the hell is wrong with you?!"
  • “Nop can't do that, talk to you later,” Amara responded and switched off her phone, a smile spread on her face as she imagined Her mother's face upon hearing that her perfect daughter was drunk at a club at 1 PM.
  • “He must be wondering if I told my parents about his little extracurricular activities!” She mused to herself as she moved away from the wall.
  • As Amara looked in the passage, no door had a sign of a toilet and she had to pee very badly.
  • “Great! Now, I can’t remember what Selene said
  • - Oh!” Her smile increased, “She said the last one on the left!”
  • With her vision starting to blur, Amara held onto the wall and walked to the last door in the passage. She tried to turn the doorknob and entered the room but surprisingly for her, it looked like a room and not a toilet.
  • “Who are you?” A man’s voice she didn’t recognized asked.
  • Amara squinted her eyes and looked around, ignoring the man’s question.
  • When she saw the door to the bathroom was open, her eyes brightened, “Found it!” She rushed to the bathroom and did her business.
  • When she tried to stand, her stomach was tied into knots and she immediately bent over the sink and vomited every liquid she had in her body. The fact that she skipped breakfast didn’t help her situation.
  • “This is crazy! I’ll have to fire some people!” Killian sneered as he watched with a disgusted look. But when he turned to Lucian, he was shocked to find him smiling.
  • “That won’t be necessary,” Lucian said still looking in the direction of the bathroom.
  • “What do you mean? Do you know her?” Killian asked while Amara was still making puking sounds as she groaned from emptying an already empty stomach.
  • “Yep.” Lucian stood and grabbed a towel.
  • “Who is she?” Kilian asked still unable to believe that his best friend who acted like he was allergic to women since they knew each other was smiling at one.
  • “My future wife. Now get out!” Lucian responded, a smile still on his face, as he walked in the direction of the bathroom
