Chapter 2 Betrayal
- Looking at Claudia, Sarah couldn't believe her ears; everything was like a movie before her. First, it was Xavier, her husband, revealing to her that he never loved her, that for the past three years they had been together, he had only been pretending to love her while patiently waiting for her to reach the terms of an agreement that she wasn't even aware of, and now Claudia, her best friend, is revealing to her that she was the wife of her husband, probably the wife that Xavier said he had married for a very long time ago, but she was barren.
- Actually, Sarah had met Claudia three years ago on the day of her wedding with Xavier. Xavier had presented Claudia to her as a business partner, and some weeks after the wedding, they still met again in Belize City, where Xavier had taken her for the honeymoon. According to her, she had come to Belize City for a business deal. After discussing it with her for a while, they exchanged phone numbers, and that was how their friendship began. Only if she had known that Claudia wasn't who she thought she was, but how could she have known when Claudia was very good at acting? She was the one who encouraged her to bear a son for Xavier before he starts showing interest in other ladies; if not, she was planning to become a mother after five years of marriage; after all, she was only twenty when she got married to Xavier, only if she had known that Claudia and Xavier were only using her as a breeder.
- "Babe, why is she looking at me like that? Don't tell me that you didn't inform her about the agreement." Claudia asked Xavier while feigning not to be aware of the trick they had both played on Sarah.
- "Of course everything was stated on the marriage certificate; she was too in love with me not to realize it," Xavier said to Claudia before looking at Sarah, who was still sobbing silently. Despite the tears rolling down her cheeks, the rage and anger burning inside her could clearly be seen.
- "Hope she has signed the divorce papers." Claudia asked Xavier.
- "Not yet; I had to remind her of the agreement she signed; now that she has remembered it, I think she's going to sign it," Xavier said to Claudia.
- "Boss, I'm done packing her belongings," the guard whom Xavier had sent to pack Sarah's belongings said to Xavier after dragging Sarah's belongings down.
- "So tell me, are you signing the divorce papers or not?" Xavier asked Sarah, but she remained silent while staring at him and Claudia, hot tears still streaming down her cheeks.
- "But, babe, is it necessary for her to sign the divorce papers? I thought the marriage was fake." Claudia asked Xavier, and immediately he nodded like someone who just remembered something important.
- "Ooh, I almost forgot, the marriage was never real; it was a fake marriage. The only thing that was real was the agreement, which was in the form of a marriage certificate," Xavier said to her before bursting into a round of laughter, including Claudia.
- "Well, you can take your leave now, Sarah Jones; there is nothing to sign anymore," Xavier said to Sarah with a wicked smirk.
- "Joe, please help her with the luggage," Xavier said to one of his guards, who nodded in agreement before dragging the luggage outside, leaving Sarah behind.
- "What are you still waiting for, or do you want me to ask my men to throw you out?" Xavier asked Sarah after the guard left with the luggage, but instead of replying, Sarah only used her clothes and dried her tears.
- "Come on, Xavier, don't be rude; how can you send her away without giving her anything? She bore you a son for crying out loud," Claudia said to Xavier while pretending to be annoyed with him.
- "Well, she's neither deaf nor dumb; if she wanted me to pay her, she could have said it, after all we never made mention of that in the agreement," Xavier said to Claudia before taking the check note on the table and writing on it.
- "Here you go. This is a check for five million dollars. I think that will do. If it's not enough, let me know so that I can increase it," Xavier said to Sarah while handing her the check. With that, Sarah smiled before approaching him and collecting the check.
- "I think that will do," she said to him after collecting the check, but just in a twinkle of an eye, her smiling facial expression was replaced with an angry glare. Raising the check up, she tore it into pieces before throwing it at Xavier and Claudia.
- "Don't think this is over yet; I'm coming back soon, and when I do, the both of you are going to regret messing with me; you both ruined three years of my life just because of a mere property. Mark my words, Xavier Quim, I will make sure you lose all those properties the same way you earned them.
- I have only one request to make: take care of my son. Maybe those five million you wanted to use to buy him from me can be spent on him, but mark my words, my return will be deadly," she said to the both of them before taking a close look at her son, who was lying on Xavier's laps.
- With that, she smiled at herself before walking out of the house.
- Once she came out, she saw her luggage outside. With that, she dragged the luggage to the roadside and flagged down a taxi. Once it stopped, the driver came out and helped her put the luggage inside the car.
- As the car was moving, the only thing she could think about was how her uncle was going to react when he saw her. It's been three years since she saw him or spoke with him, and since he was against her marriage with Xavier, she decided to keep her distance from him after the marriage, but now, just like a prodigal son, she's going back to the same house she had run away from in order to be with Xavier.
- After a thirty-minute drive, the taxi driver stopped in front of her uncle's mansion. Without hesitating, the driver came down and helped her bring her luggage out; with that, he entered his car and zoomed off.
- "Sighing heavily, she dragged her luggage and started heading towards the entrance of the mansion. Once she reached the gate, it opened by itself, meaning that her uncle had already seen her.
- As she reached the door leading into the house and was about to knock, her uncle's voice sounded from inside, motioning for her to come inside.
- Sighing heavily once again in order to calm her heart that was pounding heavily, she held the knuckle of the door and turned it down. With that, the door burst open, giving her access to the huge sitting room, and at the same time, her uncle, who was sitting on one of the huge couches, had his black glasses covering his eyes as usual.
- "And who do we have here? It seems like the prodigal daughter has finally found her way back home. So tell me, did he finally hurt you just as I had predicted?" He asked her, a mockery smirk hovering over his face.
- To be continued...
