• These past few months, Melissa had been becoming a nuisance and a danger in my life. There was no doubt that she was already a part of me, but she was complicating everything with her decision to act like a reckless teenager. I knew her family life wasn't going well, and I had just found out on the day I took her out of the police station, thanks to her father, that she had an eating disorder. But she was much more complicated than when we first met.
• The elevator doors opened and we entered the floor in the same way we arrived at the building, in complete silence. She took off my jacket from my shoulders and hung it at the entrance. We reached the living room and I walked over to lean near the window.
