• “Emma, this is not what it looks like.”
• Emma raised her brow, her expression mocking. “I used to joke about your parents dropping you on your head when you were a child, but now I am sure. What the fuck is wrong with you?” she yelled at him. She walked over to Grace, keeping her eye and bat trained on Jarred the whole time. She reached down to her step-sister and helped her up.
• Grace looked at Emma, thankful for her at that moment. She wiped her face and took Emma’s hand. “Thank you,” she whispered.
