Chapter 272 I’ll Bring It Back

  • Sarah finally loosened her grip on the door and retrieved a coat from the rack behind it, hastily slipping it on before making her way to the kitchen for the soy sauce. The moment she stepped away, Adam wasted no time, walking in as if her warning had never been uttered. His visit wasn’t about the soy sauce at all—he was really there to see if she was sharing the house with another person. His eyes swept through the hallway and living room, but there were no signs of another person—no extra shoes, no other personal items. Next, he swung open the bathroom door, only to find it adorned with the usual feminine toiletries, which made him pause. A frown creased his brow. Had I been wrong about my suspicions? Caught in a whirlwind of frustration and uncertainty, he stood motionless in the bathroom, his mind swirling with questions. The quiet was shattered suddenly by her cold, cutting voice, slicing through the stillness. "Adam, are you intending to use the bathroom as well?"
  • He exited the bathroom, his face tinged with a hint of awkward redness. He quickly tried to defend himself. "It’s not what you think. I was just admiring the style of your bathroom. I’m not entirely happy with the one at my place." Sarah scoffed but didn’t bother confronting him. She was fully aware of his true intentions and felt relieved that her son had been so quick-witted—he had the foresight to take everything with him, leaving no evidence behind. Without a word, she handed him the soy sauce bottle, her voice frosty. "It’s yours. Now, leave." He accepted it with a nod, adding, "I won’t take advantage of you. I’ll make sure to bring it back." She replied defiantly, "There’s no need to. I’ve already told you that it’s yours. Scram!"
  • Adam couldn’t help but stare at her irritated expression, the sight stirring a mix of amusement and desire within him. Still, he forced himself to keep his cool and said, "I appreciate it. By the way, ever thought about visiting my place?" Sarah’s teeth ground together as she hissed, "Not in the slightest!" Her hand pointed toward the door, an unmistakable signal for him to leave. With a quiet chuckle, he stopped pushing his luck. But before stepping out, he paused, flashing her a mischievous grin. "Those pajamas? They suit you!" Her door slammed shut with a resounding thud, and the sharp click of the lock followed shortly after. Adam smirked, watching the soy sauce in his hand with satisfaction, then turned and walked back to his own place, still grinning at the encounter.
