Chapter 11 Patricia Falls Sick

  • “Ah!”
  • The man was rough and pushed Patricia's head onto the cold leather seat.
  • It hurts...
  • She glared at Isaac with knitted brows. “Do I know you, Mr. Arnold? My fate has nothing to do with you!”
  • This is just weird! I'm grateful that he saved me, but those eyes—he obviously doesn't think I'm worth his time. Why did he save me in the first place, then? I'd rather he didn't if he's just going to treat me like this.
  • With a frosty expression, Isaac sat inside the car and instructed the driver, “Take us to...”
  • Then, he realized he didn't even know where this woman lived.
  • “Where do you live? I'll take you there.”
  • A cold smile appeared on Patricia's exquisite face.
  • “Did you not hear me, Mr. Arnold? I said you don't have to take me home. I'm getting down.”
  • While saying that, she opened the door to hop down.
  • Isaac grabbed her hand before she could go any further. “Think about your daughter, Patricia. Isn't she so adorable? But don't you know how dangerous it is for you to work here? What would she do if anything were to happen to you?”
  • The woman grew agitated at the mention of her child.
  • “You're right! This is what I'm like. I got pregnant and had kids at a young age, I don't even have a university degree, and I'm a failure of a mother! My children have had no choice but to suffer with me! I know I'm a worthless mess in your eyes, but I never asked for your help! So please, stop trying to preach to me.”
  • After yelling at him, she broke herself free, forced the door open, alighted the vehicle, and strode toward Everbright.
  • Isaac's lips twitched as he watched the furious woman leave, but he ultimately said nothing.
  • Then, he held a cigarette between his slender fingers and took a deep puff.
  • He didn't know what had gotten into him, but seeing that woman suffer worried him. He somehow wanted to help her, just like before.
  • Have I ever looked down on her, though? Why would she say that?
  • Frowning and unable to wrap his head around this, he eventually turned to the driver.
  • “Take me home,” he instructed coldly.
  • The driver stepped on the gas pedal immediately.
  • This was his first time seeing his boss bring a woman into the car. She's pretty good-looking, but she's a feisty one. I've never seen anyone who dares speak to President Arnold like that. She sure has some guts.
  • After returning backstage at Everbright, Patricia changed her clothes and prepared to leave.
  • Considering all that had happened today, she knew she couldn't stay anymore.
  • Customers were treated like gods here, and she had angered one of them.
  • After reaching home and washing up, the woman felt unwell and couldn't stop sneezing while trying to sleep.
  • I've probably caught a cold while walking back to Everbright from the parking lot. I hope I'll feel better after taking some medicine.
  • Before going to sleep, she took out her jewelry box and gazed at the diamond ring inside, sighing.
  • It was almost time to pay rent, but she didn't have enough money now that she had lost her job.
  • “Do I have to end up selling this?” she murmured reluctantly.
  • Then, with her head in a buzz, she fell asleep while clutching the ring.
  • Patricia's fever persisted the next day. Unable to get out of bed, she had Josephine take the three children to school.
  • The school was within walking distance.
  • Upon arriving, Sylvie suddenly had an idea. Wouldn't it be great if Mr. Handsome could look after Mommy? They could even grow closer to each other!
  • “Stellan! Send Isaac a text and get him to look after Tricia,” she tugged on Stellan's hand and whispered. “Tell him our address and the password to our door lock.”
  • Scott was in the midst of asking Josephine to return and take care of Patricia.
  • He was stern like an adult, making sure his mother would have her temperature checked and take her medicine regularly.
  • Stellan took Sylvie's phone and sent Isaac a text message, pretending to sound like the little girl: Hello. Mr. Handsome. This is Sylvie. Help me! I live at 150 Snowflake Lane. The password to our door lock is 520911.
  • After pressing the send button, Stellan turned off the phone as they weren't allowed to use their devices at school.
  • Sylvie pouted. “Do you think he'll come, Stellan?”
