Chapter 7

  • “I'm sorry, Mr. Daniel. I don't think I'll be able to help you considering how you embarrassed me over there so I'd suggest you step out of my way,” Adrian said conclusively, giving no room for any conversation.
  • Mr. Daniel wiped off the bead of sweat that formed on his face as he noticed the indifferent look on his face.
  • He wouldn't stoop so low to be begging for a low life if he didn't have what he needed in his possession and his life was at stake.
  • Someone else was in danger and all the guests were all depending on him to turn the tides while he knew nothing about the problem. He had to find an excuse so he could meet up and ask the location of the leaf but it seemed Adrian didn't want to help him.
  • If something happens to the lady, he will be blamed and punished by her powerful father.
  • “Please forgive me, Mr. Adrian. I know I have offended you but I need your forgiveness. The lady will die if nothing is dead,” he said and Adrian chuckled softly.
  • “You're only concerned about her well-being because she's from an influential and powerful family,” he said and Daniel lowered his head in shame.
  • Daniel wondered how Adrian knew a lot of things.
  • “I’ll take my leave,” Adrian said coldly and turned to the right.
  • Just as he was about to leave, he froze on the spot as Mr. Daniel called him back. “I'm willing to pay twenty-five thousand dollars if you agree to help me find the leaf or revive her back to life.”
  • Adrian turned to him in awe. Slowly, he began to laugh mockingly at Mr. Daniel. “And do you think I'll agree to help you because of a thousand dollars?” He asked and giggled.
  • “What amount can you offer that could sum up to the amount that is close to the money that General Lei Feng's daughter offered me?” Adrian asked and Daniel ruffled his hair with a frustrated look on his face.
  • “Okay fine. But I hope you reconsider. Your wife and mother-in-law are angry at you for turning down Miss Chloe's offer, I'm sure they're going to get back at you and you might not be able to help yourself with any funds,” Daniel said and he looked up at him.
  • Adrian remained silent for a while, lost in his thoughts. As much as he didn't want to help such a despicable man, he knew he needed to save a life and he might need the money.
  • After deciding, he spoke up in a hoarse tone. “Fine, I'll do it,” he said in a cold tone.
  • “You will?” Daniel looked up with a surprised look and he nodded his head.
  • “Yeah only on one condition,” he said and Daniels arched his eyebrows.
  • “What is that?”
  • “I'll help you if you're ready to pay fifty thousand dollars,” he said and Daniel swallowed hard.
  • “Are you not willing to do it?” He asked and Daniel squeezed out a fake smile on his face.
  • Adrian ignored him and scoffed.
  • Daniel was reluctant to pay such a huge amount of money to a handicapped but he knew he had no choice. He couldn't afford to miss his only shot of staying alive.
  • “Your account number?” Daniel asked and Adrian smiled and then called it out to him.
  • It was only a matter of seconds before Daniel sent the money to him.
  • “I have seen it,” Adrian said as he stared at his cracked phone.
  • “So where is the leaf?” Daniel asked and Adrian stared at him.
  • “I'm sorry you won't be able to get the leaf now not because I don't want to give you but because the place is far from you and the victim would have died before then,” Adrian said.
  • “Why did you collect money from you if you know that the leaf isn't in the area?” Daniel asked in an annoyed voice but Adrian was unfazed.
  • “What do I do?” Daniel ruffled his hair with a frustrated look on his face.
  • “I study medicines a little so I think I can help without the leaf,” he said and Daniel lashed out.
  • “A little? Do you think this is child's play, huh?”
  • “I have said my part and it's left for you to believe me,” Adrian retorted and Daniel kept quiet.
  • “Fine. Let's go in,” he said.
  • He wasn't planning to go to the place where he was embarrassed and ridiculed but he had no choice. He had already been paid for it.
  • “Where is she?” He asked as he ignored the hateful comments he heard from the guests who were present in the hall.
  • Daniel led him toward her and the guest stepped aside as Adrian leaped closer toward them on his crutches.
  • He shut his eyes as he placed his hand on her neck and her hand to feel her pulse.
  • He looked up and turned around as though he was trying to look for something.
  • He shook his head with a sigh as his gaze landed on the big flower vase in the hall as decoration.
  • “What did you notice? What's the problem?” Daniel leaned closer to him and asked in a calm tone.
  • “That’s the problem. Take it away,” he said and pointed at the flower vase.
  • “Hey. What do you think you're doing…” Adrian interrupted him.
  • “Listen to me and take it away,” he said.
  • Daniel ordered one of the guards to take the flower away.
  • After the guard took the flower vase away, the lady woke up from her consciousness. She looked around with a confused look on her face.
  • He smiled as he noticed the look on her face. He called for her attention and she looked at him.
  • Everyone stared at him in awe as though he was a god after what he did. None of them believed him until she regained her consciousness after the vase was taken away.
  • Who could have believed that a flower vase could be the reason why she blacked out?
  • “What happened to you?” He asked and she rubbed her hand on her face.
  • “I don't know. I felt my head burning with excruciating pain after the rays of the sun pierced into my eyes. I saw a trail of blood in a blur before I blacked out,” she explained and he nodded his head.
  • He understood the problem by her brief explanation.
  • “You’re on your period, right?” He asked and she looked away with a flushed face.
  • She was embarrassed by his question. He didn't know that the topic was sensitive to ladies.
  • “What sort of question is that?”
  • “Even if you managed to predict the problem, you don't have the right to ask her such a sensitive question.”
  • He ignored their comments and urged her to answer him.
  • “Yes. How did you know?” she asked and he smiled.
  • “It's simple. The flower inside that vase is called the Qimen leaf. The Qimen leaf is a very powerful leaf that is reactive to dirt in humans like blood on men and menstruation in women,” he explained and she smiled.
  • “It's a good thing that you're fine but you've not fully recovered because the leaf essence is still inside of you. Get Wuyi leaf in any local shop and make tea with it. Make sure to drink it every day for seven days,” he said and gripped his crutches, preparing to leave.
  • “Please don't leave yet,” she called out and he turned to her.
  • “I didn't get to know your name. My name is Evelyn,” she said and he nodded my head.
  • “My name is Adrian,” he responded and shook hands with her.
  • “Thanks. How do I repay you?” He asked.
  • “You don't need to repay me,” he said and stepped away from the scene.
  • He didn't waste time there because he didn't want to be ridiculed like he was earlier after saving someone's life.
  • Unknown to him, they were all awe-struck by his performance.
  • Daniel, on the other hand, couldn't help but wonder who Adrian was. Although he looked poor, he seemed to be proficient in whatever he did.
  • Just as he was about to
  • leave, his gaze caught a glimpse of Brian putting a white substance-like sedative into his wife's drink when she wasn't looking.
