Chapter 2

  • Andrea's eyes reddened in anger as he watched Brian wrap his hand around his wife's waist.
  • It was no surprise to him when she pulled his hand from her waist and glared at Brian.
  • He wanted to rush toward the bastard who dared to abuse him of his incapability to walk in the presence of his wife but he couldn't so he calmed his nerves.
  • He was angrier at his wife that she couldn't shun or scold Brian when he was berating him in her presence. All she could do was watch her so-called business partner.
  • He ignored Brian like he didn't exist and faced his wife. He moved closer to her while clutching his crutches firmly. "How was work today? And hope it wasn't stressful," he said even though his heart was burning with rage.
  • He believed she had no strength to scold Brian because she might be tired and it was unlike her not to defend him even in an ugly situation.
  • She works in one of the most popular publishing houses as a reporter and a part-time model because of her exquisite beauty.
  • "Yes, it wasn't. There's no way you can help rather than cleaning the house," she muttered in a low tone.
  • Although her voice was inaudible, he heard her clearly but he refused to believe it.
  • "Yes, I know. I have prepared your favorite meal so go inside, freshen up, and eat," he said and planted a soft kiss on her lips.
  • For the first time, she didn't resist or push him away like she used to even though she didn't kiss him back. Maybe she didn't want to embarrass him in the presence of her business partner, Brian. But there wasn't any difference because she didn't reciprocate any of it.
  • She forced out a smile and said in a calm tone. "I trust you on that. Prepare the table so I and my partner can eat," he looked up instantly after she finished her statement.
  • "You want me to prepare a dish for him as well?" He asked in a cold tone and she squeezed her face.
  • "Yes, you should because he's an important guest. Do you have a problem with that?" She asked and he nodded his head.
  • "Yes. I do. I can't…" Madam Brianna interrupted him before he could complete his statement.
  • "Who says he has a problem with it?" She asked in a cold tone and he shook his head with a sigh.
  • He knew she was going to add more fuel to the burning fire.
  • "Or do you have a problem with it?" She asked and he nodded his head.
  • "Yes, I do," he replied adamantly and they snarled.
  • "And what made you think you can make decisions in this house, huh?" She asked.
  • "That's because I'm your daughter's husband. And besides, he abused me for my inability to walk," he yelled, with his heart burning with rage.
  • "And who cares, huh? Why are you angry? Aren't you handicapped?" She asked and he took a deep breath trying not to let out his emotion.
  • "You're still your daughter's husband," he responded in a weak and low tone.
  • "I don't acknowledge you as my daughter's husband. When was the last time you brought something to the table? I'll make sure that will change soon," she said and he squeezed his face.
  • He bit on his lower lips as he tried to control the tears that threatened to pour from his eyes.
  • He wanted to regret pushing his wife from the running vehicle on the highway but he couldn't because he loved her.
  • He lost everything after he got into the vehicle in front of his wife who crossed the road recklessly. Every good thing he had crumbled because of the accident and his life never remained the same.
  • "Do you know who he is? He's Brian, the owner of the Globe Oil company, one of the most flourishing oil companies in the State," she said proudly and he shivered.
  • Although he wasn't mesmerized by worldly things, he wondered how a young man like Brian owned such a prestigious company.
  • "I'll do it," he muttered and turned.
  • "You have no choice. Go and do as you've been instructed, you wimp," Brian said and adjusted his suit properly.
  • Brian was trying to make a good first impression about himself to his girlfriend's mother. "Good day, ma'am." He greeted her respectfully.
  • He was somewhat jealous of Adrian. How could a handicapped be surrounded by beautiful ladies? And he was Sandra's husband.
  • "Good day, my son. Sorry about earlier. Don't mind him," she said and glanced at Adrian, who was departing to the kitchen.
  • "That's not something to bother ourselves about," he replied calmly and they all sat down in the dining room.
  • Shortly, Adrian returned with a tray full of different delicacies of food. He dropped it on the table and just as expected, he served the dishes with his left hand while he clenched his crutches firmly with his right hand so he wouldn't fall.
  • "Hey," his mother-in-law, Brianna, called him back before he could leave.
  • "What is it, ma'am?" He asked in a little bit of a distressed voice and she frowned.
  • "Well, I hope you're aware that my daughter's birthday is tomorrow. You're not allowed to come empty-handed so find something to do," she waved her hand at him dismissively after she was done with him.
  • She called him back when she remembered something. "I want you to get some groceries from the Major store," she said and he frowned.
  • "But we still have some groceries that would be sustainable for two weeks," he said but she refused.
  • "Would you take and leave?" She asked and threw her credit card in his face.
  • "Spend the money wisely," she said conclusively, giving no room for discussion.
  • He knew she was trying to send him away so she could talk to that so-called millionaire, Brian, in the house. She didn't even give him a list of what to buy.
  • The Major shop was a few kilometers away from the house and there wasn't any taxi or bus so he had to trek there despite his inability to walk on his own. He had to depend on the crutches.
  • By the time he got home, he was exhausted. He dragged the bag full of different food items into the house and threw them into the food store.
  • Where are they? He asked himself with a confused look after checking two rooms without finding any of them. The guest, his wife, and his mother-in-law.
  • Just as he climbed the stairs that led to the master bedroom, he froze on a spot when he heard a soft voice more like a moan comi
  • ng from the master bedroom, and it was the voice of his wife that he heard.
  • "Ahh… go deeper…"
