Chapter 6

  • “What!”
  • “Who does he think he is? Trying to challenge the General Lei Feng family?”
  • “I think he has a dead wish.”
  • “I can't wait to see what the dominant daughter of the General would do.”
  • Just as they were commenting badly about Adrian's behavior, he was less concerned sitting comfortably on a swivel chair.
  • “What's wrong with you, Adrian? You should help him if you can even though I'm sure you can't,” Brianna scolded him but he was unfazed by any of it.
  • “You're still doubting me. Well, I don't think I'll be able to do anything,” he said in a calm and meek tone.
  • “Why are you doing this?”
  • “That's because you were there when this scammer was discriminating against me and you did nothing about it.”
  • “Of course, you believed him over your son-in-law,” he said and swallowed the lump in his throat. His throat was burning with pain coupled with the overwhelming sadness in his mind.
  • Although he appeared calm and cold, he was weak and heartbroken within. Those who were supposed to support him, were busy supporting a stranger because he was richer than him.
  • Why did he have to live this type of life? Why was he unfortunate? Why did he have to lose his legs for his ungrateful wife?
  • Brianna's heart was burning with rage but she dared not to express it because she needed something from him.
  • Her life was at stake. Even if Adrian didn't like his worthless life, she loved her and she couldn't afford to lose herself for a useless son-in-law.
  • “I'm sorry about that. That should be enough, right?” She asked in a cold and harsh tone, and he disagreed.
  • “No. That's not enough. Your apology isn't sincere. I don't want your apology anyway. Your ego won't let you do it,” he said and she ruffled her hair in frustration.
  • “That's enough,” the young lady, Chloe, yelled, and they kept quiet.
  • The room fell into a pin-drop silence.
  • After a moment of silence, she spoke up. “This is my brother's life so do something about it.”
  • If there was something he hated about her, it was her gut. She thinks she could get whatever she wants with just a snap of her finger, maybe she could but not when what she wants is in his possession.
  • Although his idea seemed ridiculous, he believed in it.
  • “And what if I don't do something about it? Will you send troops of soldiers to take me down?” He asked and she bit on her lower lips.
  • She could see how pained and heartbroken he was so she didn't bother to drag words with him. And besides, her brother's life was at stake.
  • “State your price. I'll give you whatever amount you need,” she said and he smiled ironically.
  • “I'm sorry, you can't. And besides, being rich doesn't mean you can buy whatever you want in a snap of a finger. You work for it,” he said, emphasizing his last statement.
  • His response got her infuriated. Not only her but the guests who were present in the hall. Once again, he wasn't moved by any of it and that got her concerned.
  • What else does he want? She proposed a great offer to him but he turned it down.
  • What a great wimp!
  • For the first time in her life, someone made her feel irrelevant.
  • “He has a few minutes left to live before he dies,” he announced and the room became noisy.
  • Just as they were thinking of what he wanted, she spoke up, breaking the silence. “I'm sorry for what they did to you earlier. Please save my brother.”
  • Immediately she finished the statement, he looked up instantly with a changed countenance. That was what he wanted, her apology and respect.
  • The guests were taken aback by her action because Chloe hadn't submitted to anyone not even her father but Adrian changed everything.
  • “She apologized to him? How could he do that?”
  • “That's impossible. He really got some nerves.”
  • “I feel like ripping that asshole's throat.”
  • Brianna and Sandra, on the other hand, were burning in anger that he turned down an offer that could make him rich because he wanted her apology and respect.
  • “Huh?” He asked and pretended as though he didn't hear her. He wanted to be sure she was sincere about it.
  • Surprisingly, she repeated the same word without mimicking any words.
  • “That's a good thing to hear,” he said and brought out the leaf from his pocket with a smile beaming on his face.
  • After all he had passed through today, he had a reason to smile.
  • He glanced at the leaf for a while and squeezed it on his face then rubbed it vigorously until it began to burn his palm.
  • Although he was doing it with a fast face, he was following the process carefully. Since he was prominent in that field, he had no problem making a little antidote.
  • He quickly scoped the content into the victim's mouth and then closed his mouth. He opened the guy's shirt and rubbed his hand on his chest three times before standing up.
  • “Is that all?” She asked in a calm tone and he nodded his head.
  • They waited for some minutes, and just as they were about to complain, the victim jerked up from the floor breathing out heavily.
  • Mr. Daniel saw this as an opportunity to grab the spotlight. He rushed toward Micheal and pushed two pills inside his mouth.
  • After Michael digested the pill, he felt weak and slept on the floor.
  • “What did you give my brother? He was fine earlier,” Chloe asked coldly and he swallowed hard.
  • Adrian, who was seated in a corner, glanced at Daniel, wondering what he was up to.
  • “He'll be fine. After close inspection, I presume Mr. Adrian's leaf wasn't real and it would have had a tremendous effect if I didn't tackle it with the pill.”
  • “The leaf could only make your brother stay longer so he wanted to buy himself time to run from your family's wrath.”
  • Chloe's eyes reddened in anger when she saw what happened. She was disappointed in Adrian for trying to play her.
  • For the first time, she thought she'd finally met her match but she didn't know he was a scammer. He deceived her.
  • She turned to him with a cold look. “Is that true, Adrian?” She asked coldly, disregarding the respect she had for him earlier.
  • Adrian's eyes widened in shock when he realized what was happening. “That's not right,” he denied the allegation but none of them were ready to believe him.
  • “That's a lie. You're a scammer.”
  • “Throw him out. You're a liar.”
  • “Sandra should divorce you for real. Shameless and poor wimp.”
  • “I didn't do any of what he said. Please try to believe me…” just as he was trying to make her understand him, she interrupted him.
  • “Keep quiet and leave before I lose my mind,” she yelled and he nodded his head.
  • Micheal jerked up from his floor sweating and breathing profusely.
  • Once again, they'd slapped him on the face mentally because he was poor. They chose to believe Daniel even though he saved Micheal because Daniel was richer than him.
  • “What! Mr. Daniel did it!”
  • “He brought General Lei Feng's son back to life.”
  • “I wonder why I believed that wimp. We're sorry for misunderstanding you, Mr. Daniel.”
  • “You're indeed a genius. This is my business card. Give me a call.”
  • Adrian was getting angrier with each comment he was hearing. Another man was getting the credit for the job he did.
  • Maybe he didn't belong there. And it wasn't right to be nice.
  • “I think you should leave,” his wife, Sandra, leaned closer to him and whispered to his ears.
  • “I'm about to,” he said coldly, looked away, and reached out to his crutches then limped out of the hall.
  • Just as he was about to enter the cab that he hailed, he heard a familiar voice from behind and left the cab then turned back. His blood burned with anger when he saw the person in front.
  • “What is it?” He asked in a cold tone.
  • “I'm sorry…” he interrupted him before Mr. Daniel could complete his statement.
  • “Answer my question,” Adrian said firmly.
  • It was quite unfortunate and funny that after Adrian left, a young woman collapsed on the floor and they were expecting him to revive her back. He'd tried all he could do but it wasn't working so he had to rush to call Adrian so he wouldn't end up in shame.
  • “I need your help,” he said and explained the situation to Adrian.
  • For a moment, Adrian laughed mockingly at Daniel, who felt ashamed of himself.
  • “I can't help you. You're the hero so you should have no problem saving the second one,”
  • Although, strangely, another person collapsed, he didn't bother about it because it was none of his concern.
  • “Please forgive me for what happened,” the man apologized but Adrian wasn't ready to forgive not after what he did.
  • “So what do you want?” He asked coldly after the intensive persuasion.
  • “Oh! You're here to know the location of the ginseng leaf because there's no way that I can get the leaf from General Lu Xun,” Adrian answered his question.
  • “I'll do anything if you can tell me the location of the leaf,” Daniel persuaded and he accepted.
  • “Okay, fine. But there isn't any way I'm going t
  • o help you after how you humiliated me in the hall in the presence of my wife and mother-in-law and her family,” he said conclusively, giving no room for discussion.
