Chapter 8 Pregnant?

  • Pregnant?
  • She went back to the Lane Residence with her bag in hand.
  • Abby gritted her teeth as she decided to expose the trap Rebecca and Alice had set for her back then. She wanted the fair Larry to uphold justice for her.
  • But when she came into the house, the first thing that greeted her was Larry's loving hug. After they chatted, Abby couldn't bring anything up when she saw how peaceful and warm the atmosphere at home was.
  • Rebecca, who saw this, gave Alice a reassuring glance. She knew the filial Abby couldn't bear telling Larry about this.
  • "Mark called me this morning, Abby." Larry patted his adopted daughter's head. "I can rest easy now that you've settled down, though setting the wedding to be held two weeks later might be a bit too hasty."
  • "What?!" Alice screamed in disbelief. "Mark wants to get engaged to her? But that's impossible!"
  • Not when Mark has seen her looking like that!
  • Larry looked at her strangely with a frown. "Why is it impossible? Mark has dated your sister for three years, and they graduated this year. It's time for her to settle down."
  • Alice couldn't retort to that, so she glared at Abby.
  • Rebecca wasn't looking happy either, but she couldn't do anything.
  • When it was dinnertime, everyone sat around the table. After Abby glanced at the glazed pork chop on the table.
  • "Ugh…"
  • Unable to bear it any longer, she covered her mouth under everyone's shocked gazes, pushed open the bedroom door, rushed into the bathroom, and opened the toilet. She crouched down and began to retch.
  • "Are you alright, Miss Abby?" The maid quickly came over and patted her on her back when she heard Abby gag.
  • Since it was a big commotion, even Alice came in. When she saw Abby looking like this, Alice pinched her nose in disgust. "What the hell are you up to this time, Abby?"
  • Abby felt dizzy. After flushing the toilet, she stood up, her strength gone. Right after she sat down, her stomach churned again.
  • Larry couldn't let this go on. He stood up and insisted, "I'll take you to the hospital, Abby."
  • Rebecca was thinking of stopping her husband from making a mountain out of a molehill. However, something struck her when she saw how pale Abby looked. She gasped.
  • "You aren't pregnant, are you?"
  • Everyone had a look of horror on their faces after that declaration was made.
  • Hospital.
  • When they came to the hospital, Larry insisted on sending Abby to the gastroenterology department. When the doctor told him to send her to the obstetric department, his expression darkened. He then quietly took Abby to check for her pregnancy.
  • The results were positive.
  • It meant she was pregnant.
  • The conclusion that stemmed from this hit them like a sledgehammer.
  • After they came back from the hospital, Larry was sitting in the main spot in the living room, interrogating the helpless Abby in front of him.
  • "You said Mark is not the father of the child. Who is it, then?" he asked sternly.
  • "I-I don't know." Her voice trailed off, almost an inaudible whisper in the wind.
  • "You don't know? How can you not know?!" Larry slammed the table angrily. "I'm asking you again. Who is the father of the child?!"
  • "Calm down, Dad." Alice calmed him down, sounding almost as if she pitied Larry. "I didn't know that Abby has such a messy private life that she doesn't even know who the father of her child is."
  • Hearing that, Abby glared at Alice with her fists clenched.
  • "Why are you glaring at me? Am I wrong? Our family hasn't been in a more embarrassing situation, you know?" Alice gloated.
  • "Enough!" Larry seemed to have aged a lot. He held his forehead and took a deep breath. "You're an adult now; I can't tell you what to do anymore."
  • Abby teared up and was about to say something when Larry interrupted her.
  • "Since you refuse to say who's the father of the child, then abort it immediately! Keep this a secret within our family. As for Mark… I'll go and apologize to him after this. I'll try to cancel the marriage."
  • Larry's tone carried both authority and weariness, leaving no room for objection.
  • Abby, who was taken aback by his words, placed her hand on her abdomen, closing her eyes in pain.
  • That incredibly vivid nightmare, along with the strong body of the man who softly whispered "Miss Siegfried" in her ear, resurfaced in her mind.
  • I am no longer worthy of Mark.
  • She suddenly opened her eyes. Gritting her teeth, she nodded in response.
