Chapter 3 I'll Never Love You Like I Used To

  • Abby woke up the next day, albeit with difficulty. She sat on her bed for a while before tidying herself up and going to school to drop out as planned.
  • When she was washing up, someone slammed the door a few times before it was kicked open.
  • The one who came in was Alice, who was visibly upset.
  • "Who did you hook up with last night, Abby?! Mr. Shawn called me and said he waited at Siegfried Royal Hotel for the whole afternoon!"
  • Alice was so close to crying from grievance when Mr. Shawn reprimanded her on the phone.
  • Mr. Shawn was a well-known pervert in the film industry. Because of that, Alice hatched a plan of sending Abby to his bed and destroying Abby's relationship with Mark while helping herself to get a role as her first step into the entertainment industry.
  • When Abby came back looking dejected and in a mess, Alice thought that she must have done the deed. Alice thought her plan was perfect, but…
  • She glared at Abby with a hint of doubt in her eyes.
  • On the other hand, Abby trembled in anger when she heard that. She took a deep breath and asked, "So, it was you. Why did you do this to me?"
  • Alice snorted. "You're just a b*stard, so you don't have the right to date someone as great as Mark. Besides, our family has raised you for so long. It's a given that you have to repay the debt."
  • The moment she said that, Abby didn't hesitate to slap her.
  • Slap!
  • It landed squarely on Alice's face, creating a crisp sound.
  • As Alice's head was forced to turn to the side from the impact, her eyes widened in disbelief while she covered her cheek, which throbbed painfully. She couldn't believe this!
  • "How dare you slap me, Abby Lane?!"
  • Alice's eyes were bloodshot with anger, and she wanted to retaliate. However, Abby gripped her hand and shoved her to the ground.
  • Abby's eyes were icy when she looked down at Alice.
  • For some reason, Alice was terrified of how cold Abby was looking at her. Still, the woman glared at the one who slapped her. "Just you wait! I'll make you beg for my mercy someday. I'll have my revenge then!"
  • She then struggled to stand up and dashed downstairs.
  • Abby's palm tingled from the recoil, and the truth revealed by Alice's words just now left her heart as cold as an ice cellar, jolting her awake.
  • All the tolerance and concessions she had shown over the past decade had not earned her acceptance in this family. Instead, her adoptive mother and so-called sister had intensified their mistreatment of her, even treating her as a bargaining chip in dealings with others!
  • She took a deep breath and held her tears back. Then, she walked out with her handbag in hand.
  • If she waited for Alice to bring Rebecca here, what awaited her would be none other than another abuse session. Abby was planning to stay over at her friend's house for a few days as she waited for Larry to come back. When he did, she would tell him what truly happened and demand justice.
  • The moment she got to the doorstep, Abby suddenly stopped and looked ahead in disbelief.
  • She noticed a white Chevrolet waiting for god-knew-how-long at the corner outside of her home's gate.
  • It was Mark's car.
  • She backed off reflexively, but since the driver had seen her, he honked a couple of times before slowly coming toward her.
  • The car window was then rolled down, revealing a lethargic Mark before her.
  • His eyes were bloodshot, and his chin was filled with stubbles. Coldly, he stared at her. "Get in," he instructed without a hint of emotion.
  • Abby tried not to cry as she shook her head. "I'm sorry, Mark. I think it's best that we break up. I've been—"
  • "Shut up!" Mark's temper flared, and his expression was dark.
  • He massaged the bulging vein on his forehead and smiled mockingly. "What? You are complaining about my car now after you've slept with a famous director?"
  • She didn't expect the gentle man she had loved for three years to say something so cruel to her.
  • With a pale face, she went into his car quietly. When she had made up her mind to say something, he interrupted her.
  • Mark's expression was grim as he looked ahead unblinkingly. "I won't break up with you," he stated.
  • Abby's eyes widened, and she finally cried. "Mark—"
  • "Don't take this the wrong way." Mark sneered before adding cruelly, "I won't break up with you because I don't want people to find out that my girlfriend sleeps around. I won't love you as much as I used to from now on."
  • His girlfriend used to be someone innocent and needed his protection. The current Abby, however, was unworthy of him.
  • Even though he would know she couldn't have thrown herself to another person if he just thought about it, the jealousy that burned in him right now stopped him from thinking about the possibility that there might be something more in this.
  • All he knew now was that she was "filthy," and yet, he shamefully couldn't let her go.
  • At that, Abby looked up at the man in a trance. It felt as if he was a stranger.
