Chapter 3
- Pei Shaoyu, on the other hand, ignored her.
- Two months?
- Wasn’t that when I met her?
- Pei Shaoyu was shocked. He looked down at the woman in front of him. Her ears were flushed red, and only she knew if it was because of anxiety or embarrassment.
- This woman is pregnant?
- Pei Shaoyu directed his gaze towards He Nian’s abdomen but couldn’t see anything from where he stood.
- Seeing as his attention was divided, He Nian grabbed his arm. She jumped and pulled the report out of his hands, using it as a foothold of sorts, “Who let you touch my stuff without my consent?”
- Pei Shaoyu quickly averted his gaze. His head spun as numerous thoughts raced through his mind.
- I... have a kid now?
- Am I... a dad?
- It was just as He Nian said; he felt small, tiny even. However, he knew he had to take responsibility.
- Pei Lihua glanced at his son, then at He Nian. Before he was able to speak, Zhang Wan interrupted from the corner of the room, “Young Master Pei, did she deceive you? Nian is pregnant and getting married soon. Oh, you know a lot of people! You might even know her fiancé. Nian here says that her fiancé often stops by Hotel Royale, do you know him?”
- Pei Lihua stood speechless. But Pei Shaoyu quietly fixed his gaze on the woman in front of him. Everyone waited in anticipation - He Nian was going to make a fool out of herself. Just as He Nian braced herself for the inevitable, Pei Shaoyu spoke, “I do know him. As a matter of fact, all of you should know who her fiancé is.”
- As he said this, Pei Shaoyu stretched his arms and embraced the woman in front of him. His voice was clear and concise, “Me. I am the baby’s father. I am her fiancé.”
- The entire Pei Corporation erupted into chaos.
- The Pei family wasn’t your ordinary neighbor down the block. Their corporation had affiliations with industries all across the globe. They were considered to be one of the most prestigious families in T City. The Pei family’s masters were sent to various departments within the company to lead, while the younger masters either busied themselves with their own businesses or chose to join the company. The largest building located on the busiest street of T City belonged to the Pei family. And now, He Nian would become a part of this family.
- He Nian, the worthless nobody who always seemed to be in constant trouble.
- For a split second, He Nian couldn’t comprehend what was happening. In a state of confusion, she subconsciously lifted her head to look at the tall man standing next to him. In that instant, it was as if she forgot the fact that he was four years younger than her. The only thing she felt in his embrace was reassurance.
- Pei Lihua, on the other hand, was bewildered. He cleared his throat and said, “You two, come into my office.”
- His voice snapped both of them out of their daze. Pei Shaoyu then took He Nian’s hand and walked into the office confidently.
- As soon as they entered the office, he let go of her hand.
- It was at that point did they seem to realize what occurred.
- Pei Lihua began with a question, “What’s going on?”
- He Nian kept her silence as she was still in shock. She knew that lying wasn’t going to get her out of this situation anymore. The only solution she could think of was resigning. But if I resign, how am I going to provide for my sister? Lost in her thoughts, He Nian was caught in a dilemma at that moment.
- Pei Shaoyu took a deep breath and answered, out of the blue, “Father, I want to get married.”
- This caught Pei Lihua off guard. He Nian responded, “Excuse me, chief. Please let me have a word with him.”
- He Nian then dragged Pei Shaoyu into the parlor where Pei Lihua couldn’t hear their conversation.
- She controlled her emotions before speaking. “What are you trying to do?” She asked.
- “I’m not trying to do anything. I just want to take responsibility for my own actions,” he replied.
- Take responsibility?
- Hah!
- He Nian snorted coldly. After a while, she was finally able to collect her thoughts, “Pei Shaoyu, do you even understand what taking responsibility means? Don’t expect me to come asking for you to take responsibility just because I’m pregnant with your child! Do you really want to take responsibility when you’re still so young? Or do you think taking responsibility just means marrying me and letting me give birth to this child?”
- “From what I see, you think that just because you’re a young master of the Pei family, even if you cannot afford to look after me, your family will, right? Is your responsibility really your own, or is it just the Peis?
