Chapter 12

  • TWO WEEKS LATER
  • SARAH'S POV
  • I can't believe how time flies so fast and yet the more I try to please my boss, the more I get scolded over everything.
  • He just hates me for no reason and he finds fault in every little thing I do. Sometimes, I wish I could find a way to disappear from his life but it's just impossible because no matter where I run to, he will have his men find him and who knows, he might just kill me.
  • Today is a special day in the mansion because it happens to be Max's birthday and his father had agreed to organize a small birthday party in the mansion.
  • "Auntie, are you sure my daddy is going to make it on time?" He asked, with a sad voice.
  • “He sure will, baby. He can't miss your party for anything so cheer up, okay?"
  • “Okay mommy." He answered in a whisper before chuckling softly.
  • “Are you hungry?"
  • “Yes mommy."
  • “So, tell me, what do you want to eat?”
  • “I want cookies and orange juice."
  • “Okay baby. You can relax and rest while I bake you cookies."
  • “Thank you mommy. I love you."
  • "I love you too. Also, don't forget to finish your milk before I get back."
  • “Okay mommy." He answered and flashed me a smile which I reciprocated before walking out of the room.
  • The mansion was still undergoing decorations by the maids and other staff. Everyone was just so busy including Aunt Kathy.
  • I got to the kitchen and began searching for the ingredients to use to bake the cookies. After some searching I got all the ingredients on the table before getting to work.
  • After getting everything ready, I placed the cookies inside the oven and used the opportunity to make the fresh orange juice for him.
  • In no time, the cookies were ready and smelling great. I'm sure he's going to enjoy the cookies along with the fresh orange juice.
  • I took a bite of the cookie which turned out crunchy and delicious before serving the rest on a tray along with the glass of orange juice.
  • I got to the room and found him playing with his iPad but the moment he saw the cookies, he dropped the iPad and rushed towards me.
  • "Is this my birthday present from you, mommy?"
  • “Not really but you can say that since I couldn't get you anything."
  • “I love it, mommy. I'll really enjoy every cookie." He said, as we headed towards his bed.
  • “Have a bite and tell me what you think of the taste."
  • "Okay." He smiled and picked from the cookies.
  • He took the first bite with a smile but after a minute his facial expression changed which got me by surprise.
  • "What's wrong, baby? Don't you like it?" I asked, and the next thing I knew, his breathing began to seize which scared me.
  • “What's wrong Max? Are you okay?" I held on to him in fear as I was so lost and confused on what to do.
  • Oh, God! What have I done? Is he allergic to cookies or what? I better call for help right away.
  • "Stay with me, Max. I'll go find someone. Please, stay with me." I yelled, rushing out of the room.
  • "Aunt Kathy! Aunt Kathy!! Aunt Kathy!!!" I screamed rushing down the stairs.
  • "What's wrong Sarah?" She asked, rushing towards me.
  • “It's Max. He's gasping for air." I stammered.
  • “What did you give to him? He… he asked for some cookies which I baked myself and…" She cut me short before I could continue.
  • “Did you add peanuts inside the cookies?" She inquired with her eyes wild open.
  • “Ye yes. I did."
  • “Oh child, what have you done? He's allergic to peanuts.” She cried out and asked one of the maids to call the doctor.
  • Oh, goodness! I'm so done for today. I wish the floor would open and swallow me. I don't think I'll survive today with my life.
  • JAYDENS POV
  • I was having a conference meeting with my board members when a call from Aunt came in on my phone which was strange.
  • Without giving it a thought, I picked the call and heard her voice sounding like she was wiping.
  • “What's wrong aunt? I'm in an important meeting right now?"
  • “Son, it's Max. He had an allergic attack just now."
  • “What???" I screamed, getting on my feet.
  • “We're on the way to the hospital."
  • “I'll be on my way right now." I stated, and ended the call.
  • "Is everything alright Mr Russell?" One of them asked.
  • “Yes. Let's reschedule this meeting for another day." I added and left the meeting in a rush along with Henry trailing behind me.
  • **
  • I rushed inside the hospital the moment we arrived and asked one of the nurses to direct me to my son's ward.
  • I got to the ward and found my son sleeping on the bed looking all pale with aunt sitting right beside him.
  • “Jay, the doctor said he's out of danger." Aunt uttered but I ignored her and rushed towards him.
  • “My little boy." I called out, caressing his face.
  • “How did it happen, aunt? I know you're not careless enough to let this happen."
  • “He was given a cookie which had peanuts in it."
  • “By whom?" I roared.
  • “Calm down, Jay. What really matters is that Max is out of danger."
  • “Tell me aunt. Who did this?"
  • “Jay, please try and understand me. She wasn't aware of his allergy and you never made mention of it to her."
  • “Where is she?"
  • “She has gone to get his drugs from the doctor. Jay, please. Don't hurt the innocent girl."
  • "I won't spare her today." I growled and stormed out of the ward while she rushed after me.
  • "Jay, please compose yourself. We're in the hospital and it won't be good if Max gets to know you hurt her." She kept begging.
  • I was in the hallway leading to the doctors office when I sighted her coming out from the office.
  • “Don't do this Jay. Please, I'm begging you." Aunt kept pleading but it turned on deaf ears.
  • "You're as good as dead today." I gritted my teeth and grabbed her neck.
  • "I didn't know he was allergic to pea peanuts. Please, don't kill me." She begged while Aunt grabbed my hand begging me to let her go but I wasn't willing to.
  • I'm sure I made mention of it to her. How could she be so careless by endangering my son's life? She has to pay for her carelessness with her life.
