Chapter 10 My Boss Wants To Meet You

  • “Jaziel, have you arrived? You must remember to come, all right?”
  • He was on the way when Wesley called.
  • “Don't worry, Mr. Zinnecker. I'll be there soon.”
  • As he hung up the phone, the car had already arrived at the parking lot.
  • He stepped out of the car, carrying a plastic bag with him.
  • “Sean, you go ahead and attend to your matters. If anything comes up, I'll give you a call.”
  • Jaziel waved dismissively at Sean.
  • He discovered that Sean, who had stayed in Cadrexia, was not only assisting him but was also occupied with other tasks. It was likely something Silas had instructed him to do.
  • However, Sean never spoke of it, and Jaziel never bothered to ask.
  • At that moment, a large crowd had already gathered at the entrance of the museum.
  • They were all dressed to the nines, sporting luxury watches and exuding an extraordinary aura. They were the cream of the crop in Cadrexia's high society.
  • Admiring the antiques was secondary. The main aim was to hopefully get acquainted with Wesley, the president of the Chamber of Commerce.
  • Before Jaziel even set foot in the museum, a surprised voice rang out. “Jaziel, how come you're here too?”
  • Turning around, he saw Vivian, Timothy, and Sophie, who had just arrived at the door.
  • “I heard there was an antique exhibition, so I came to have a look,” Jaziel said with a smile.
  • “Jaziel, is this really a place for you to be?” Timothy chastised with displeasure. “Instead of finding a proper job, you've been aimlessly wandering around.”
  • Recently, his affection for Jaziel had been waning steadily.
  • “I've come to see if there are any good emeralds. I plan to buy one,” Jaziel said truthfully.
  • “Emeralds? Do you have any idea how expensive emeralds are? They easily start from hundreds of thousands. You sure have the guts to say that. And what do you have in that bag of yours? Let me take a look,” Timothy said with a serious expression.
  • He was worried that Jaziel might have picked up some unsavory habits in prison. He only hoped he wouldn't get any ill-conceived ideas at the antique exhibition that day.
  • “I have money stashed in here.”
  • Jaziel wasn't afraid of Timothy discovering his current situation.
  • In reality, Timothy had always been prejudiced against him.
  • “What nonsense are you talking about? Forget it, I can't be bothered to look. Remember, today is filled with important people. Keep quiet and don't cause any trouble.”
  • Timothy let out a cold huff, but in the next moment, he managed to muster a smile as refreshing as a spring breeze, directing it toward a portly man.
  • “Mr. Carlyle, you're here too.”
  • “Mr. Barker, I didn't really want to come, but Mr. Zinnecker personally called to invite me. How could I possibly refuse Mr. Zinnecker's request!”
  • Timothy immediately showed his respect.
  • “Mr. Zinnecker is quite the influential figure in Cadrexia. I was hoping that you could perhaps introduce me to him, Mr. Carlyle...”
  • Jaziel couldn't be bothered to stick around.
  • While Timothy was engaged in conversation with Mr. Carlyle, he took the opportunity to slip into the museum.
  • “Are you Mr. Jaziel Lassche?”
  • As soon as he entered the museum, a man sporting a bow tie promptly came up to greet him.
  • Jaziel gave a nod. “Yes, I am.”
  • “Mr. Zinnecker and a few other bosses are in a conversation. Let me escort you upstairs.”
  • “Okay.”
  • Jaziel straightened his clothes and followed behind him, heading toward the second floor.
  • The first floor was designated for museum exhibitions, while the second floor was a private area.
  • In a room on the second floor, there sat five or six portly men, all of whom were influential figures in Cadrexia.
  • One of the women, adorned with gold-rimmed glasses, exuded an aura of elegance and grace, yet carried herself with the strength of a formidable woman. She was seated next to Wesley.
  • In such settings, the seating arrangement for each individual held significance.
  • Taking the seat immediately to the left signified the woman's status, indicating she held the second-highest position in the room, second only to Wesley.
  • A scholarly-looking man initiated a conversation with the woman. “Ms. Gellert, Dominion Group has just acquired the plot in South Cadrexia. Do you think we have a chance to get involved in this project?”
  • The woman was none other than Heather Gellert, the CEO of Dominion Group.
  • “Of course, Dominion Group has to rely on everyone's support in Cadrexia.”
  • Beside them, Wesley broke into hearty laughter. “At such a young age, Heather has already made it into the billionaires' club. We old guys won't even be able to compare to her in the future. I think Heather will be the next president of the Chamber of Commerce.”
  • Upon hearing these words, Heather immediately displayed a look of fear.
  • “Mr. Zinnecker, you're putting me in a difficult spot.”
  • “Hahaha.”
  • Suddenly, everyone in the room burst into laughter.
  • “By the way, Mr. Zinnecker, has the friend you've been waiting for arrived?”
  • “He should be here soon,” Wesley said. “Although that friend of mine is young, he's quite the expert when it comes to antiques. That's why I wanted to introduce him to everyone. I hope you all can support and guide him in the future.”
  • “Of course, a friend of yours is a friend of ours,” the scholarly middle-aged man said.
  • At that moment, there was a knock at the door from outside.
  • “Come in,” Wesley said.
  • Jaziel was seen walking in, carrying a plastic bag.
  • His entrance left the bosses present in the room somewhat taken aback.
  • Heather suddenly stood up and asked, “Mr. Zinnecker, is this the young man you've been waiting for?”
  • Wesley was puzzled by Heather's strong reaction. He nodded and said, “Yes! I met Jaziel three days ago. Why, do you know him too, Ms. Gellert?”
  • The other bosses also displayed a sense of curiosity.
  • Heather left her spot and moved toward Jaziel.
  • “Boss, what brings you here? This is terrible. I'm not at the office working but here sipping coffee and admiring emeralds. You're not going to dock my pay, are you?” Heather said playfully with a charming smile.
  • “Of course not. How could I bear to deduct the salary of a beauty like you, Ms. Gellert?”
  • The conversation between the two left all the bosses in the room utterly shocked.
  • Is he the mysterious boss of Dominion Group?
  • Half a month ago, Dominion Group had forcefully taken over Flora Group, even going as far as to poach all of the original staff members from Flora Group.
  • At the same time, they had made several substantial investments, completely establishing their reputation.
  • Otherwise, amidst so many big shots, it would have been impossible for Heather to secure a seat next to Wesley.
  • There were always various rumors circulating about the person behind the scenes at Dominion Group.
  • They just hadn't anticipated it to be Jaziel.
  • “I really didn't expect you to hide your light under a bushel, Jaziel.”
  • Wesley suppressed his astonishment and laughed heartily.
  • Everyone else also got up one after another to shake hands with Jaziel.
  • Jaziel took a seat right next to Heather.
  • Even when Heather looked at Jaziel, her gaze held a touch of curiosity.
  • It wasn't just the others present who knew little about him. Even she herself was barely acquainted with him.
  • “Since Mr. Lassche has arrived, I guess it's time for me to bring out my hidden treasure.”
  • Wesley clapped his hands.
  • Immediately, a few servers carrying wooden trays walked in.
  • Before long, several antiques were arranged neatly on the table.
  • “These are some of my cherished collections. Feel free to take a look. Especially you, Mr. Lassche, you're quite the expert, aren't you?”
  • Jaziel gave a laugh. “It's just a stroke of luck.”
  • Those items included paintings and ornaments.
  • Jaziel was instantly captivated by the fish emerald pendant placed at the center.
  • “Mr. Zinnecker, would you consider parting with this emerald pendant?”
  • A hint of amusement flickered in Wesley's eyes.
  • The emerald pendant was what he had prepared for Jaziel.
  • Of course, it wasn't considered top-tier. After all, he had previously thought that Jaziel's worth hadn't reached that level yet.
  • Had he known Jaziel's true identity, he would have presented different emeralds.
  • “Feel free to take it if you like it,” Wesley said.
  • “Mr. Zinnecker, why don't you quote a price?”
  • Jaziel picked up the emerald pendant, playing with it in his hands.
  • The design of the fish was quite traditional, in line with Divintra philosophy. Silas would probably like it.
  • When it came to buying emeralds, it was all about destiny, not necessarily about how expensive it was.
  • “All right, let's settle on this number, then.”
  • Wesley extended two fingers, signifying two hundred thousand.
  • But Jaziel knew this emerald was worth far more. It could easily fetch eight to nine hundred thousand.
  • “Mr. Zinnecker, you don't have to go easy on me. I'll give you a million.”
  • With that, Jaziel placed the black plastic bag on the table.
  • He opened the plastic bag, revealing the neatly arranged bills inside.
  • Few of the bosses were taken aback.
  • In this day and age, who carries so much cash when they go out?
  • He even carried them in a plastic bag.
  • Even Heather, who was standing nearby, was somewhat at a loss for words.
  • Her boss' behavior was truly unique.
  • Pretending to be upset, Wesley said, “Mr. Lassche, how could I possibly take your money?”
  • Seeing that Jaziel was determined to pay, he finally sighed.
  • “Mr. Lassche, I must admit, my insistence on gifting you this emerald wasn't without reason. In fact, I have a favor to ask of you.”
  • Wesley had also realized that getting Jaziel to owe him a favor was impossible. So, he decided to cut to the chase.
  • “Oh, what is it about?”
  • Jaziel displayed a touch of curiosity.
  • He had long realized that Wesley was not one to be taken advantage of, and indeed, he had an ulterior motive.
  • “You're knowledgeable about antiques, and recently, I've been considering purchasing a piece of emerald from the south. However, the price of the emerald is quite steep and I'm a bit uncertain. I was hoping you could lend your expertise.”
  • “What kind of astronomical price could possibly deter a tycoon like you from making a move, Mr. Zinnecker?” Jaziel asked.
  • Upon noticing the curious glances from those around him, Wesley hesitated for a moment before extending a single finger.
  • “One hundred million.”
  • Subtle changes of emotion flickered across the faces of everyone present.
  • Every individual present in the room was worth more than a hundred million, yet an emerald of the same value was considered astronomically expensive.
  • After some thought, Jaziel nodded and said, “All right, I'll help you with this.”
  • “Thank you, Mr. Lassche.”
  • What followed was a scene of harmonious joy.
  • Jaziel stayed for a while before getting up to leave.
  • Having already secured the emerald, he had no interest in exchanging pleasantries with this group of people here.
  • “Boss, let me walk you out.”
  • Seeing that Jaziel was about to leave, Heather hurriedly got up.
  • “It's okay. Just continue with your coffee.”
  • Jaziel immediately waved his hand.
  • This left Heather somewhat taken aback.
  • Despite her stunning beauty, her proactive approach was unexpectedly rejected, causing a sense of defeat to rise in her heart.
  • Jaziel descended from the second floor, intending to leave directly.
  • At that moment, a burly man dressed in a black suit blocked his path.
  • “Mr. Lassche, is it? My boss wants to meet you.”
  • The other party spoke in a cold voice, their tone devoid of much emotion.
  • Jaziel noticed that the other person's hands were covered in numerous calluses, indicating that they must have had combat arts training.
  • “Sorry, I don't have time.”
  • Casting a glance at a distance, Jaziel noticed a middle-aged man standing there, surrounded by a crowd of subordinates, much like the man in front of him. There was an intense aura of authority about him.
  • “Mr. Lassche, my boss is Billy Harmsen. He's interested in getting to know you.”
  • The burly man's voice remained as flat as ever, but in reality, a touch of annoyance had already begun to stir within him.
  • The status of their boss was such that even Wesley had to treat him with utmost respect when they met.
  • The young man before him was indeed a bit unusual, but he was not quite on the same level as his boss.
  • “I have no interest in getting to know him,” Jaziel said indifferently, ready to take his leave.
  • A glint of coldness surfaced in the burly man's eyes.
  • He hadn't expected that the other party would dare to be so disrespectful even after revealing his boss' name. It was rather audacious indeed.
  • Just as the burly man was hesitating whether or not to take action against Jaziel, a voice echoed from behind. “David, come back.”
  • The burly man shot a fierce glance at Jaziel before turning around and returning to the middle-aged man's side.
  • Jaziel walked out of the museum nonchalantly.
  • The burly man expressed his dissatisfaction. “Mr. Billy, I don't see what's so great about this kid. Damian is just too useless. How about I take some men and teach him a lesson right now?”
  • “He's quite a character!” Billy chuckled lightly.
