Chapter 7 Encounter With Danger
- Both of them spoke at the same time. Winona thought about the incident two months ago when she had lost her innocence to a stranger at a hotel. She had taken contraceptive pills afterward, so could it really be such a coincidence? She caressed her still flat belly, her expression complicated.
- Trevor's expression was dark as he asked, “How many months along is she?”
- The doctor shook his head. “Hard to say. It would be best to go to the hospital for a full-body check-up. This way, we can ensure the health of the baby too.”
- After the family doctor left, Trevor abruptly pulled Winona up. “Let's go. We're going to the hospital to terminate this illegitimate pregnancy.”
- Winona brushed his hand away and took two steps backward, shaking her head. “No, I'm not going.”
- She didn't want to make such an arbitrary decision about a life. Her sensitive artist's heart evoked an infinite affection for the child growing within her.
- Trevor could no longer suppress his anger. He sternly ordered, “You must get rid of it!”
- “Why should I?”
- Winona ascended a few steps up the staircase, creating some distance between herself and Trevor, who was bearing down on her persistently.
- “Why should you?” Trevor let out a bark of angry laughter before pointing at himself. “Mrs. Fleming, I am your husband now. The child you're carrying isn't mine, so I want you to get rid of it. Is that wrong?”
- He was nearly consumed by rage, and in a flash, he thought of Marcus, who was still entangled with Winona. He couldn't help but jab at her, “You're now Marcus' aunt. How can you get involved in such a scandal with your nephew? How is the Fleming family supposed to keep its standing in Junbert after this?”
- She and Marcus hadn't been involved at all! Besides, since parting ways in Ferundia, they had only met up again at that recent gathering.
- Winona also suppressed her anger, trying her best to discuss the matter calmly with him. “If you think this is humiliating, we can divorce immediately. I'll leave your Fleming family, and from then on, we can go our separate ways.”
- Her behavior, in Trevor's eyes, was an admission of her secret affair with Marcus. He quickly caught up with her, intending to grab Winona's sleeve. “Come with me to the hospital!”
- He couldn't discern what exactly had ignited the fierce flames of jealousy in his heart.
- Was it because Marcus had slept with her while he hadn't? Was it due to her appalling attitude?
- Was it the deep-seated grudge of patricide that lay between them?
- Winona swiftly ascended the staircase. Gripping the handrail, she looked down upon Trevor's handsome face contorted in anger, and suddenly, she laughed.
- Trevor snapped coldly, “What are you laughing at!”
- Winona said, “Look at yourself! Don't you resemble those women who've found out about their husband's affairs?”
- Trevor was taken aback for a moment. Had she just compared him to a jealous woman?
- Winona shook her head, pointing to her own heart. “Trevor, you haven't fallen for me, have you?”
- Fallen for her? Fallen for her... That's absolutely impossible, right?
- Trevor's face hardened, and his voice was icy as he said, “Don't flatter yourself!”
- He was driven by his desire for the family wealth, for the shares, and to seek revenge against her!
- Winona rolled her suitcase over to stand at the top of the stairs, facing Trevor from a distance. “Fine. If you let me leave now, it'll prove that you really don't care for me. Otherwise, I'll take it as you loving me to the point of desperation.”
- She said that on purpose, knowing all too well about Trevor's competitive nature. Even if he truly had feelings for her, he would never admit it at that moment.
- Indeed, Trevor hesitated.
- He was unwilling to let Winona use this as leverage against him, and it seemed his feelings for this woman were indeed not ordinary.
- Just then, an unexpected force pushed Winona from behind. She let out a startled cry as she crashed into her luggage. Both she and the suitcase went tumbling down the stairs, and she ended up landing heavily on the small landing.
- In a state of panic, Trevor rushed forward to hold her. She heard Trevor's desperate cry, “Get a doctor here now! No, call an ambulance, quickly!”
- Ever since she met Trevor, he had always maintained an air of calm and composure.
- This was her first time seeing Trevor in such a disheveled state.
- Before Winona lost consciousness, she felt waves of cramping pain in her lower abdomen, and something warm and wet seemed to be flowing out from between her legs...
- Her child, it was her child...
