Chapter 3 Ten Million
- Winona's eyes widened. “City Hall? Who said anything about marrying you! Let me go! You can't take away my personal freedom!”
- Trevor casually propped his long legs up, leaning back in his seat with his arms crossed. He scoffed coldly, “Do you really think I want to marry you? You owe our Fleming family too much. If it wasn't for...” His voice trailed off abruptly as he chose not to continue.
- In reality, Pinnacle Plaza was a property owned by the Fleming family. Trevor came today for the handover with the manager. However, the manager, under the influence of his uncle, made things difficult for him at every turn.
- On his way back, he unexpectedly ran into Winona. He found himself contemplating the idea of marrying this woman first. For one, it would grant him complete ownership of the company shares. Secondly, it could serve to provoke Harold, who was on the verge of his second trial.
- Winona said angrily, “Don't you despise my father? Aren't you disgusted by the idea of marrying me?”
- Suddenly, Trevor leaned in, his hand propped on the car window as he gazed down at her with a cold stare.
- A familiar scent drifted into Winona's nose, making her furrow her brows. The cologne he wore seemed familiar. She defensively crossed her arms over her chest and asked, “What exactly do you want?”
- Naturally, Trevor wouldn't spill the truth. With a stern face, he said, “I know you're short on cash. Marry me for three months under a contract, and I'll give you ten million!”
- Ten million!
- Winona slowly lowered her arms, her brows furrowed as she asked, “What's in it for you?”
- “You don't need to concern yourself with that.” Trevor's hawk-like gaze was fixed intently on her, causing Winona to break out in a cold sweat from the tension.
- At this point, this contract was nothing but beneficial for her. Ten million was previously just enough for her to buy a beloved car, but now, it could ensure her mother received her psychiatric medication regularly. Perhaps there would even be enough money left over to hire a private detective to investigate the truth behind the pufferfish poison incident from years ago!
- “I agree!”
- Trevor curled up the corners of his lips in a smirk, as if he was mocking her for being a power-hungry, gold-digging woman.
- Winona lowered her head, resentment simmering within her. Had you not influenced all the major design firms in Junbert to reject me, I wouldn't have been reduced to this. I was, after all, a graduate student from the prestigious Pyralis Academy of Arts! How could I end up working as a cleaner in a hotel!
- The staff at City Hall had probably never seen such a discordant couple before. They behaved more like adversaries than betrothed lovers. As soon as they sat down, they turned their faces away from each other. The man, with a cold expression, filled out the registration form while the woman remained silent throughout.
- The staff member in charge of taking the registration photos looked troubled as he glanced at them twice. “Sir, ma'am, could you possibly sit a bit closer?”
- Trevor remained utterly still, merely tugging at Winona's clothes. Reluctantly, Winona shifted slightly toward him.
- “Give me a smile. Say cheese!”
- Click! The photo was captured.
- Not long after, the newlywed couple, each harboring their own thoughts, stepped out of the building.
- By now, dusk had already fallen. Winona was about to hail a taxi to go home when Trevor stopped her. “Where are you going?” he asked.
- Winona was utterly baffled. “I'm going home.”
- Trevor retorted coldly, “As Mrs. Fleming, shouldn't you be returning home with me to the Fleming residence?”
- Winona was at a loss for words, but for the sake of ten million, she reluctantly agreed, “All right, fine, I'll go with you. But first, I need to go back and take care of my mom, okay?”
- Before she could finish speaking, Trevor abruptly yanked her over, causing her to stumble.
- He seemed to be in a hurry as he quickly ushered her into the car, instructing the driver, “To Fleming Manor.” Turning his head, he put on a cold face and said to Winona, “I'll have someone take your mother to the hospital.”
- Winona didn't believe him. “Are you really that kind?”
- Trevor disdainfully said, “I would never lay a hand on a woman!”
- Winona's gaze drifted to her wrist, which he was still forcefully gripping. She could already see a dark bruise marring her fair skin.
- Unable to refute, Trevor huffed, let go of her hand, and stopped paying her any attention.
- Fleming Manor was nestled halfway up a hill.
- The Maybach cruised through a grand, opulent iron gate. What followed was a sight to behold - a sprawling mansion with an ancient flair, its five halls and exits giving it an air of a bygone era's palace.
- Winona followed Trevor inside. An elderly man dressed in a suit slammed his cane onto the ground and barked angrily, “Trevor, you dare to return!”
- The butler nearby gave a significant glance. With one hand holding Winona, Trevor calmly stated, “Grandpa, why wouldn't I dare to come back?”
- The old man turned around, his hawk-like eyes, identical to Trevor's, stared directly at Winona. “Who is this woman?” he asked.
- Trevor paused for a moment before replying, “She's my newly wedded wife. The reason I'm here today is to inform you that I'm already married. There's no need for Uncle Xavier to meddle in my marital affairs anymore!”
