Chapter 5 Marry You Three Months Later
- At Regal Bay Hotel, Melanie sat in the office, barely holding back her excitement as she waited.
- A few days ago, a man had approached her, insisting that she was the one a certain big shot was looking for. It was only today that she found out this big shot was Trevor, the eldest son of the Fleming family and the future chairman of Fleming Group!
- The emerald pendant I found in the laundry basket seems to be a family heirloom that Mr. Trevor always wears. Could it be that he intends to repay me for this? Melanie thought excitedly.
- The office door was gently rapped twice before Trevor, dressed in a sharp suit, strolled in. He had purposely chosen a light-colored tie, which gave off a more casual and relaxed vibe.
- With a smile, Trevor asked, “What, don't you recognize me?”
- When Melanie snapped out of her daze, she flattered, “How could I not know who you are? You, Mr. Trevor, are a renowned figure across Junbert's social circles!”
- Trevor cast a glance over her revealing dress and heavily made-up face, his frown barely noticeable. He hesitated before saying, “Don't you remember me? That night...” He deliberately kept it vague, fearing his men might have identified the wrong person.
- If it were the woman from that night, she would naturally know what had transpired.
- Melanie was taken aback, a sudden thought flashing through her mind. She recalled that she had fired a part-timer the other day who was about her height. The part-timer had been suspected of slacking off as she had spent the entire night cleaning the 18th floor's presidential suite. But now it seemed she had actually spent the night together with Trevor!
- She swiftly concealed her jealousy, a smile forming on her face. “I remember. You were particularly impressive that night, Mr. Trevor.”
- Melanie pressed her chest against him tightly, causing Trevor to feel a bit uncomfortable. That night, the woman had clearly been very resistant, even seemed to have cried afterward, and he had felt guilty about it for a long time. Yet, Melanie's demeanor was no different from any other gold-digger trying to seduce him into bed.
- Could it be he had misjudged her?
- Nevertheless, when he made a promise, he would definitely fulfill it, no matter what the circumstances were!
- Trevor stepped back, saying indifferently, “I will marry you in three months.”
- He didn't explain why, but Melanie took the initiative to move closer, coquettishly saying, “But I want to live with you right now, Mr. Trevor.”
- No way.
- The refusal was on the tip of his tongue, but Trevor swallowed it back down and answered, “Move to South Lake Street 1, House 18. There's no need to bring your luggage; I have everything there.”
- Why had that woman who had run away flashed through his mind earlier? What was there to fear about her? After all, their marriage was merely a contract, not to mention they shared a feud over what happened to his father.
- After fleeing from the Fleming residence, Winona found work as a server in a small restaurant. Half a month later, through her old friends and after much difficulty, she managed to get an invitation to an industry gathering.
- She saw this as an opportunity to connect with her father's old buddies, hoping that someone among them would be willing to testify before the second trial. If nothing else, she hoped for some financial assistance, enough to hire a lawyer at the very least!
- The gathering was taking place at Mint Club, where the attendees were all either wealthy or influential. Winona was dressed in an out-of-season Givenchy gown, weaving her way through a sea of current-season haute couture. The sharp mockery from the ladies and young misses echoed in her ears—
- “Look at her, all shabby and poor. I bet she stole that invitation from somewhere!”
- “Maybe she's hoping to reel in a rich husband?”
- They burst into fits of laughter as they gossiped about Winona. Regardless, Winona remained silent. She picked up a glass of wine from the tray held by a waiter, steadied her emotions, and, with a radiant smile, approached a portly middle-aged man.
- “Mr. Landon, do you still remember me?”
- The middle-aged man, Aaron Landon, watched as the stunningly beautiful Winona, with her fair complexion, approached him. A flash of covetous desire flickered in his eyes before he casually greeted her, attempting to sound nonchalant, “If it isn't Winona? Of course, I remember you.”
- He raised his wine glass, lightly clinking it against Winona's. His gaze never strayed from her chest as he said, “Is there something you need from me?”
- Winona noticed his gaze and managed a forced smile. “Mr. Landon, as you know, my father—”
- She hadn't even finished speaking when Aaron started shaking his head vehemently. “No, no, that would mean going against the Fleming family.” His words had barely left his lips when his greedy eyes took a quick sweep of her body, adding, “However, I might be willing to take that risk for you...”
- He leaned in close to Winona's face, so close that she could almost smell the foul stench of his breath, and whispered in a low voice, “If you're willing to reward me somewhere private, I might reconsider.”
- Winona abruptly pulled her hand back, taking two steps backward, and said coldly, “Mr. Landon, if you don't want to help, just say it. Why beat around the bush and insult me? Wasn't it my father who helped you when you had financial difficulties? Your success today, your ability to stand here looking fine and dandy, isn't it all thanks to my father's assistance?”
- What she had said was indeed a well-known fact within the industry. Aaron's face fell at her words, his pride wounded. Unable to swallow this blow to his ego, his face turned red, and he moved to shove Winona.
- Winona had her hand tightly clenched around the wine glass, ready to strike him, when a tall figure emerged from behind Aaron. A man in a white suit seized Aaron's hand, his voice icy as he said, “Do you think you have the right to touch Winona?”
- He didn't look back, but Winona recognized him by his voice. In an instant, her emotions were a tangled mix.
- The man was dressed in a white suit, its back featuring a cut-out design. Metal chains crisscrossed like a spider web, creating an image that was both sexy and restrained.
- This was Winona's graduation project, her most cherished piece of work.
- This individual was also the person she cherished the most once upon a time.
- He was none other than her first love and childhood sweetheart, Marcus Yeager.
