Chapter 7 The Bond Of Brotherhood In Adversity

  • “Mr. Sullivan, I...” Dominic began, dodging around the subject. “Why didn't you deduct Zyron's perfect attendance when he was late last time?”
  • That man, Zyron Chance, was, in fact, a distant nephew of Wyatt. Usually, he would exploit Wyatt's influence and often bully Dominic in the company. He would push all the heavy and long-distance hauls onto Dominic.
  • “If I want to deduct, I'll deduct. If I don't, I won't! What's it to you? Stupid fool, if you want to work, work. If not, get lost! I can find a dog like you anywhere.” As he spoke, Wyatt raised his foot and kicked Dominic hard in the rear, causing Dominic to stumble involuntarily.
  • A spark flared in Dominic's eyes. “Mr. Sullivan, that was the thirty-seventh time you've kicked me!”
  • “Well, well, what's this? Are you still holding a grudge, wanting revenge? You coward, come on, then! I'm standing right here. Come hit my face, aim right here, see it... Make sure you hit hard, you idiot. Do you think you can turn the tables?” As Wyatt spoke, he stretched out his face, patted his own cheek, and provoked Dominic.
  • Stimulated by the provocation, Dominic's breathing became rapid, his fists clenched tightly, seemingly on the verge of exploding at any moment.
  • Upon witnessing the situation, Terrence quickly stepped forward to mediate, saying, “Dom, calm down, calm down!”
  • At the same time, he tried his best to smile at Wyatt, saying, “Mr. Sullivan! Dom has had some issues at home these past few days, and he's been a bit upset. Please be patient with him. I'll talk to him later!”
  • As he spoke, Terrence hastily pulled Dominic away.
  • Wyatt glanced at Dominic with contempt. “Hmph! As long as I'm here for a day, I call the shots!”
  • Terrence pulled Dominic aside, speaking to him with a heavy heart. “Dom, you don't want to quit, do you? If we offend Wyatt, our lives will become even more difficult! I know you're under a lot of stress... It's okay, just hang in there... Oh, by the way... Here are the monetary gifts you gave me yesterday. Take it!”
  • As he spoke, Terrence pulled out an envelope from his chest, handing it over to Dominic. “Dom, this is all the money I can spare right now. Take it for your urgent needs, and pay me back when you can!”
  • Dominic opened the envelope and roughly glanced over its contents. Although he didn't count meticulously, there were at least two thousand in the envelope. After returning yesterday's monetary gift, Terrence had even added an extra thousand.
  • Holding the envelope, Dominic found himself in a situation that was both amusing and frustrating.
  • Was Dominic short of money now? Not at all!
  • “Terrence...” Dominic wanted to call out to Terrence, but Terrence had already started the car. “Dom, hurry up and deliver the goods! Your task today is quite heavy. Even though I've helped you share some of the larger items, I estimate you'll still be busy until five or six in the afternoon. Make the most of your time!”
  • Watching the figure of Terrence's cart disappearing into the distance, Dominic suddenly felt a pang of melancholy.
  • Dominic was well aware of Terrence's family situation. With elderly parents to care for and young children to raise, the entire family relied on Terrence's modest income for their livelihood. The fact that Terrence could lend him a thousand was likely a testament to his utmost effort.
  • This friend is worth making!
  • A day's hustle and bustle, though strenuous, was indeed fulfilling. During this time, Cherilyn made several phone calls, but Dominic did not answer any of them.
  • Just after six in the evening, Dominic returned the tricycle to the company and clocked out. Sloummont was already shrouded in the darkness of night. Dominic patted the money in his backpack. Even though he had withdrawn two hundred thousand in cash, if he were to stay in a hotel every day, it would cost nearly two thousand a day. In just a few months, he would be completely broke.
  • Continuing like this was not a solution, and it was certain that he could not return to Cherilyn's house for the time being. As for how to handle the situation with Cherilyn moving forward, Dominic had not yet figured it out.
  • This was a battle of endurance, making it absolutely necessary for him to rent a house outside.
  • Dominic logged into the house rental app and posted a request for a roommate. But now it was getting late, and he was certain he wouldn't be able to sort it out today. Where should he go to tide over the night?
  • Dominic scrolled through his phone's contact list when he suddenly thought of Raelyn Xenos, the lady boss for whom he had worked part-time during his university days. Raelyn was a few years older than Dominic and owned a bar in the western district of Sloummont. It was said that she was doing quite well there.
  • During his university years, Dominic often worked part-time at Raelyn's bar. Over time, he developed a fairly good relationship with Raelyn.
  • “Raelyn, it's me, Dom! Well, Raelyn... I'm homeless again, so can I stay at your place for the night?” Dominic called Raelyn without any hesitation.
  • On the other end of the phone, a pleasant voice chuckled. “Why are you being so formal with me? It's perfect timing. I've been having backaches and pains recently. You can come over and give me a massage. I'm too used to your technique!”
  • A troubled expression crossed Dominic's face. “Alright then!”
  • Although Raelyn was nearing thirty, her figure was no different from that of an eighteen-year-old girl. Previously, every time Dominic massaged Raelyn, he found himself stirred by her playful teasing, his blood boiling with excitement.
  • After hanging up the phone, Dominic quickly rode his bike toward Ray Bar.
  • What Dominic didn't know was that behind him, a gray van was quietly following. A few young men dressed in black in the van were reporting into their earpieces, “Leopard, the Dominic you asked us to track, he's now at the Ray Bar. This could be a problem!”
  • There was a moment of contemplation on the other end of the phone. “Ray Bar? The territory of that fierce woman, Raelyn? Indeed, it's a bit troublesome. It seems I, Leopard, will have to handle this matter personally. That woman, Raelyn, should at least give me some face!”
  • His words paused for a moment, and then Leopard added, “All right. You guys keep watch. I'll be right there!”
