Chapter 4 Infuriating Enough To Kill

  • Ruth took the phone and said, “Dominic, we were afraid that if you knew you were born into wealth, you might squander it and end up with nothing. That's why we decided on a plan to raise you as if we were poor...”
  • Listening to his parents' arrangements, Dominic was left speechless. Their plan of frugality was just too extreme.
  • After a thorough conversation with his parents, Dominic finally confirmed the shocking truth. He had lived in poverty for twenty-four years, and now, in an astonishing turn of events, he had become a super-rich scion.
  • When Dominic rode his bicycle again, he suddenly felt as if the air had become somewhat fresher.
  • Upon withdrawing two hundred thousand in cash from the ATM and feeling the crisp bills in his hand, Dominic finally felt at ease.
  • There was no way he could return home that night, so his only option was to check into a hotel. Although Dominic was somewhat reluctant to part with his money... after years of poverty, he could accept the occasional indulgence, couldn't he?
  • Dominic rode his bike to the finest Royal Pier Hotel in Sloummont, ready to book a room. For many years, Dominic had only ever watched others frequenting upscale hotels, his heart sour with envy. Now that he had money, he too wanted to experience what it felt like to stay in a five-star hotel.
  • Dominic had just steadied himself at the hotel's front desk when a man and a woman, two familiar faces, walked in hand in hand, chatting and laughing.
  • Upon seeing these two, Dominic instinctively wanted to dodge, but the man had already spotted him. “Oh my, isn't this Dominic? What's the matter? Are you still not giving up on Cassy, even following her all the way here?”
  • With a sigh of resignation, Dominic glanced at the man beside him. The flamboyantly dressed girl was none other than his ex-girlfriend, Cassandra Willow. The man, on the other hand, was Dominic's college classmate, Hugo Campbell, who came from a somewhat wealthy family.
  • Back in the day, Cassandra left Dominic because she thought he was too poor, and she ended up with Hugo instead. Unexpectedly, she ran into him here...
  • After so many years had passed, Dominic didn't harbor much resentment toward his ex-girlfriend. Dominic didn't want to cause any trouble. Since Hugo and Cassandra had booked a room here, he decided to switch to another place.
  • “Dominic, we've already broken up! Can you stop pestering me? What's the matter? Are you planning to rent a room next door or something? Isn't that disgusting? Besides, can you even afford the rent here?” Cassandra scornfully said to Dominic.
  • Dominic furrowed his brows. “I wasn't going to do that!” Without thinking, he reached his hand out and gripped the canvas backpack in front of him.
  • The sight of that country bumpkin instantly filled Hugo with a sense of superiority. He wrapped his arm around Cassandra's petite waist, sneering, “What are you trying to do, then? Dominic, you're destined to be a pauper all your life. See this? Your girlfriend is now mine. Stop daydreaming. You'll spend your life delivering packages...”
  • “Hugo, don't push it! I don't want to argue with you. If you're here, I can simply switch to another place!” Dominic really wanted to pull out the cash from his bag and throw them in the faces of Hugo and Cassandra, but in the end, Dominic held back.
  • Dominic was pushing his bicycle. As he had only taken a couple of steps forward, Hugo blocked his path. “Hold on. Weren't you planning on renting a room?” Hugo taunted, “The minimum charge here is a few thousand. Why don't you rent one for me to see? Come on. You've been clutching that backpack of yours. Could it be filled with cash? Hurry up and show us!”
  • As he spoke, Hugo was already preparing to tug at Dominic's backpack.
  • A flash of anger crossed Dominic's eyes. “Hugo, you've gone too far!”
  • During his university years, Hugo, relying on his family's wealth, often bullied Dominic. He made Dominic fetch his meals and clean for him, and in the end, he even stole Dominic's girlfriend. Every time Dominic faced Hugo, he felt an inherent sense of fear.
  • Even though Dominic now knew that he was a billionaire, his instincts had not yet adjusted.
  • “Did I cross the line? What can you do about it?” Hugo snatched the backpack from Dominic's hands, unzipping it with a swift, rustling sound.
  • “Perhaps it's better not to open it...” Dominic was about to stop Hugo, but Hugo had already turned his backpack upside down, emptying its contents. “You are just a mere courier. If this backpack is full of cash, I'll eat it right here and now!”
  • Thud! Thud! Thud!
  • From the backpack, over twenty bundles of bills fell onto the ground with a rustling sound, creating an unusually loud noise.
  • Upon seeing these two to three hundred thousand brand-new banknotes, Hugo was dumbfounded. Meanwhile, Cassandra and the surrounding guests were all dumbfounded as well.
  • Hugo had not anticipated at all that Dominic's bag would actually be filled with so much cash. He was utterly embarrassed. Sensing the surrounding gazes, Hugo's expression turned gloomy. “Are you an idiot? Why are you carrying so much cash on you?”
  • In this day and age, who still carries around so much cash when they go out?
  • Without uttering a word, Dominic picked up the cash from the ground and handed a stack to Hugo. He then said softly, “Hugo, didn't you say you were hungry? Why don't we eat while it's still hot?”
  • “You...” Hugo's face twitched with irritation. Dominic had touched a sore spot. “What are you showing off for? Isn't it just a few hundred thousand you've scraped together?”
  • Just a moment ago, Cassandra was also shocked by the cash in Dominic's bag. However, recalling Dominic's previous impoverished appearance, she quickly realized. “Dominic! This money of yours must have come from an illicit source. Tell me. Did you steal it, or did you rob someone? I advise you to turn yourself in!”
  • With a helpless sigh, Dominic wondered if this was the true face of Cassandra. He felt fortunate that Cassandra had broken up with him years ago.
  • Cassandra's words seemed to have restored Hugo's dignity. “That's right. Cassy understands me! Dominic, you think you're so great, don't you? Look at this. Your girlfriend is going to bed with me again tonight. Are you mad? Haha!”
