Chapter 8
- Xaden turned to look at her and his voice was cold, "Victoria as the Head of the King Club, how could you be so kind and compassionate to speak up for a despicable person who deserves not even an ounce of sympathy?"
- Victoria raised a brow elegantly and opened her mouth to speak.
- Just as she was about to speak, however, there was a knock on the door. Victoria jumped, slightly startled. She then set down the cup in her hand and replied coolly, "Well, I wouldn't consider myself kind or compassionate. I'm just saying that it would be a pity if that girl were to die at my front door. After all, she's a pretty hard and valuable worker."
- She then turned to open the door whilst swaying her hips from side to side in an incredibly alluring manner.
- As Xaden watched Victoria leave, he couldn't help but think about what Julliet had said to him whilst she was kneeling. She'd indeed seemed to have changed.
- Xaden then took a sip of the tea that Victoria had poured for him. He couldn't help but wrinkle his nose at how it tasted slightly bitter.
- Victoria exchanged a few words with the person who'd come to the door for a moment before walking back into the office.
- Xaden was drinking tea in an extremely sophisticated and elegant manner. Victoria was entranced for a moment before she cleared her throat and informed the former, "She fainted."
- Xaden paused for a moment before he asked, "How did Antonio react?"
- "He got worried and decided to personally send her to the hospital." Victoria replied.
- Xaden pursed his lips and seemed to be in deep thought for a moment before he spoke up, "Get two people to follow them."
- Meanwhile, Julliet was dreaming about how she'd returned to prison, how she'd been so frustrated with the relentless abuse and torment she endured there that she couldn't take it any longer and set the whole place on fire.
- Everyone, including those who'd bullied her and herself, were all trapped in the fire.
- Just when as she'd felt liberated, however, Julliet opened her eyes and returned to reality.
- Julliet couldn't help but frown disappointedly when she noticed the IV drip hanging above her. She was in a hospital and was still alive and kicking. A nurse who was tending to her noticed her and couldn't help but tease her, "What's the matter, dear? You're still alive and all is well. What's there to feel disappointed about?"
- Julliet simply stared out of the window and did not say anything in reply. The nurse shook her head at this before walking out of the room with an empty medicine bottle.
- And so, Julliet was left alone in the ward. She was so exhausted that she drifted back to sleep at some point in time. It was already dark outside by the time she woke up again.
- Julliet blinked tiredly. She felt as though she'd been hit by a truck.
- "You're awake." Just then, a low voice sounded from the side.
- Julliet turned her head and to her surprise, saw Xaden with his legs crossed on a sofa that was not far away from her bed.
- There was a strange smile on Xaden's face. Julliet couldn't decipher it no matter how hard she racked her brains and tried to do so.
- "Julliet, you really haven't learned anything during your two years in prison, hmm? The only thing you've learned seems to be to make people's hearts ache..."
- Xaden said sarcastically.
- Julliet was about to open her mouth to refute when she held herself back. After all, she knew that there was nothing that she could say to change the former's mind about her.
- But even her silence and lack of response annoyed Xaden.
- "Are you really not going to say anything?" Xaden looked angrily at Julliet.
- Julliet pursed her lips and lifted her head at him, "President Devenport, you know the answer to that question. How could me saying something going to change anything?"
- Xaden frowned at this. Even though Julliet looked obedient and relenting, she was rebellious and feisty in actuality. Just then, he got up and approached her.
- Xaden grabbed Julliet roughly by the chin before she could react. "Julliet, you disgust me."
- Even though Xaden's grip was hurting her, Julliet endured the pain and held her head high. "What is it about me that disgusts you, President Devenport?" Perhaps I can correct myself."
- Xaden pursed his lips and narrowed his eyes at her.
- Julliet had changed so much from two years ago. Her originally chubby and plump face was now sullen and thin. Her previously innocent and lively eyes were now tired and vacant.
- Even though she was still Julliet Harris of the Harris Family, she was no longer as confident and exuberant as before.
- Xaden continued to hold Julliet by the chin. He was silent for a long time.
- The tension in the air was so thick that you couldn't even cut it with the toughest knife. Just then, there was a knock on the door.
- Xaden retreated rather reluctantly. He adjusted his sleeves and sat back onto the sofa. He ordered coldly. "Come in."
- Julliet thought that the nurse had returned to check on her. However, it was Antonio who was at the door.
- Julliet couldn't help but feel surprised. She opened her mouth to speak, only to ultimately hold herself back for the fear of saying something inappropriate.
