Chapter 4
- "What? Why?"
- Ivory didn't understand. She had come to the King Club around the same time as Julliet had. After spending half a month working with the latter, she felt that Julliet was quite good-tempered and pretty good-looking. As such, she thought that she would be a likeable person.
- However, not only did Julliet always seem to be targeted by the receptionist, she was also not allowed to take any breaks and was always made to clean up after the mess of drunk guests. She'd never seemed to be able to catch a break for more than half a month.
- And so, just like that, Julliet was ruthlessly targeted, she did nothing to fight back. Instead, she willingly accepted all of the punishments and dirty work that were hurled at her.
- "I don't have any money. If I stay here, I get a place to stay and am given meals to eat." Julliet let go of her aching leg and forced a smile, "Besides, it's not like I can find another job."
- Since Julliet didn't go into detail, Ivory couldn't really understand where the former was coming from. As such, she decided not to ask any further and continue the conversation.
- Even though Julliet knew that people would look down on how she let herself be trampled on and appeared incapable of standing up for herself, she knew that going against Xaden, the biggest shareholder behind the King Club, would be far worse.
- She could bear anything that he may wish to throw at her. The only thing that she was worried about was what would happen to the Harris Family should she defy Xaden. After all, she'd already done enough damage to the family's reputation.
- Not far away, there were two limited-edition sports cars in front of the square at the clubhouse. Inside them were three men and two women. The driver went to park the car while the others alighted and chatted animatedly as they walked into the lobby.
- Julliet retracted her hand and smiled professionally. When those people came closer, she bowed, "Hello, welcome to the King Club."
- Naturally, the group ignored Julliet and headed into the elevator without even sparing her a second glance.
- Just then, the woman who was trailing at the back of the group stopped in front of Julliet. She scanned the latter up and down as she frowned, "Julliet? Is that you?"
- Julliet was surprised that someone had recognized her. She looked up and saw a somewhat familiar-looking face. But she couldn't seem to remember just who this person was.
- The woman grinned as soon as she got to take a clear look at Julliet, "Oh, it really is you!" She exclaimed, "That's weird, I didn't know that your sentence had already ended. Why didn't you tell me when you were released? I could've gone to meet you, you know."
- Ivory gaped at Julliet as soon as the woman was done speaking.
- Julliet, who had expected this to come sooner or later, sighed internally as she tried her best to keep a polite smile on her face.
- However, this person was not going to let Julliet off just like that.
- She folded her arms across her chest as she continued to scan the woman up and down. She said mockingly, "Julliet, since when have you become this pathetic-looking? Those days in prison must've really taken a toll on you, I see!"
- Julliet pursed her lips and did not say anything. But she was even somehow still able to maintain her smile.
- The woman frowned at Julliet's lack of response to her taunts. She seethed, "Man, since when had the King Club's recruitment standards dropped? I didn't know that it was possible for an ex-convict who'd been imprisoned for attempted murder to be hired here! I asked her a question, and she doesn't even respond. What kind of service is this, huh? Where's your manager? I want to talk to her this instant!"
- "Camilla, what are you doing?"
- Just then, a low voice cut the woman off. Julliet turned her head to see a man approaching them. Her memory instantly cleared at the sight of the man.
- It's him.
- Julliet had never thought that she would meet Antonio under such circumstances.
- Antonio was the only person who'd visited her when she was in prison.
- However Julliet believed that he had probably visited her with a heart burning with hatred. After all, he was Veronica's older brother. How could he possibly treat her nicely when she had almost killed his dearest sister?
- "Ah, Antonio, you're finally here. Haha, do you want to guess who I saw?"
- Antonio immediately noticed Julliet. There was an indecipherable look in his eyes as he gazed at her. He furrowed his brows for a moment before taking a step forward and asking softly, "Oh, when did you come out?"
- "I came out half a month ago."
- Antonio couldn't help but feel surprised at how calm Julliet was. His heart ached as he swept his eyes over the faint scars on her face. He found himself unable to take his eyes off her as he muttered, "That's nice to hear. Well, I hope that you live a good life with your newfound freedom."
- "Thank you."
- Camilla hadn't expected Antonio to be this nice to Julliet. Her face instantly soured at how pleasantly he'd treated her.
