Chapter 7
- As much as Julliet didn't want to kneel, she was worried that she might implicate the Harris Family even more than she already had. She took a deep breath and swallowed her pride before lowering her head and getting on her knees.
- Camilla couldn't help but feel startled when Julliet got down on her knees. She hadn't expected Julliet to do such a thing. Meanwhile, Xaden remained cold and indifferent, as though Julliet's kneeling hadn't affected or moved him the slightest bit.
- "Mr. Parker, I hope that you can forgive me."
- Before Julliet could say anything else, Antonio poured a glass of liquor over her. He sneered, "Julliet, it has been two years. Yet, you would still stoop so low and do such derogatory things for a man."
- Julliet was stunned by Antonio's actions. By the time that she'd recovered from her initial shock and wiped the liquor from her face, he'd already left.
- Perhaps, he was very disappointed in her.
- Xaden remained unmoved at what he'd witnessed. He walked over and said to her monotonously, "You have no choice but to continue kneeling here since the guest is unwilling to forgive you."
- He turned to leave after he was done saying this.
- "Xaden." Julliet suddenly called out to him, "Do you...really like Veronica that much?"
- Xaden liked Veronica so much that he hated Julliet even more than Antonio.
- "What did you say?" Xaden stopped in his tracks and asked.
- Julliet lifted her head to look up at Xaden. Her makeup was completely smudged and ruined by the tears on her face. "Xaden, I'm sorry. I truly regret what I'd done." She said sadly.
- "I wouldn't have liked you if I known that she was the one whom you liked...liking you is the biggest mistake of my life."
- Xaden's face darkened as soon as he heard Julliet's words. He turned around and sneered, "Is that so?"
- "You might say this now, Julliet . . . but nothing that you say can ever turn back time and reverse your mistakes and wrongdoings."
- Xaden sounded so cold that the existingly cold atmosphere seemed to drop several degrees more.
- Julliet felt especially cold. After all, she was clad in a short slik dress and was barely covered up. Her face was as pale as a sheet and her hair was doused in alcohol as she knelt at the entrance of the clubhouse.
- Not only was Julliet freezing, her legs were starting to ache from kneeling for so long. She nearly fell over and fainted for a few times.
- More and more guests arrived at the clubhouse as midnight drew closer. Julliet didn't mind the mocking and ridicule that they hurled at her. She simply bowed her head and looked down at her frostbitten hands.
- The two years that she'd spent locked up in prison had taught her how to be numb to the wrath of the outside world.
- Julliet would always get beaten up when she was in prison. At the beginning, she even would try and put up a struggle, but she gradually came to learn that trying to put up a fight would only make the beatings worse. As such, she eventually stopped resisting.
- She learned that her tormentors would eventually stop when they grew tired of beating her up.
- Just like that, Julliet endured the torment that Xaden and Antonio were subjecting her to and hoped that they would eventually let her go.
- It was only after a long time did Ivory throw Julliet a coat that she'd secretly taken. She furrowed her brows as she said, "Put it on! You've been out here for two hours. You'll freeze to death if you stay here any longer."
- Julliet was stunned by Ivory's unexpectedly kind and thoughtful actions. She thought that the latter was still mad at her for hiding from her the fact that she'd been in prison.
- As she reached out to pick up the coat, she muttered quietly and hoarsely, "There's no need for you to care about me. I don't want to implicate you and drag you down together with me."
- "There's no need for you to worry about me," Ivory sighed. Even though she didn't know just what Julliet had done to offend those people, she couldn't help but feel sorry for the latter, at the way that she was being treated.
- "Didn't I tell you to resign a long time ago? Yet, you refused to listen. Hang on, let me get you a cup of hot water."
- Julliet did not want get Ivory into trouble. So she raised her hand and tried to stop the latter. Just then, however, a wave of dizziness swept over her and caused her to fall onto the ground.
- The last thing that she heard before hitting the marble floor and losing consciousness was Ivory calling out to her in panic.
- …
- Meanwhile, Xaden was sitting in the manager's office in the clubhouse with a gloomy expression on his face. A woman with an impressive figure was pouring him a cup of tea.
- The tea was so sweet-smelling that it filled the room with its pleasant fragrance.
- The woman could tell that Xaden was not in a good mood from his facial expression. So she decided to be subtle about what she wanted to tell him. "I heard that the temperature is hitting -12 degrees Celsius tonight." She said deliberately, "I'm afraid that the flowers that I'd gotten a few days ago won't be able to survive."
- "They're just flowers. You can always buy more of them."
- "But what about a person?"
