Chapter 8 A Sinister Plan
- Bethany smiled through her tears. “Grandma Fiona, I'm fine. I'm just a bit shaken up.”
- Words eluded Ashton.
- Am I a monster or demon that a mere glance would reduce you to tears?
- Meanwhile, Hendrix was already on the verge of losing his temper.
- Nonetheless, he had yet to give up.
- “Ashton, Grandma had an allergic reaction for some reason, so please entertain the guests first. I'll help Grandma to the room to rest,” Hendrix said gently.
- “Ashton doesn't like the crowd. Hendrix, you should take care of the guests while he accompanies Grandma Fiona to rest,” a sweet and soft voice rang out once again.
- Hendrix went silent.
- Argh! It's Bethany again!
- The air around Ashton grew even colder.
- Ugh! The mere mention of word “Hendrix” is downright irritating!
- He supported Fiona. “Grandma, let's go.”
- Bethany wanted tag along.
- She was akin to a person parched to the extreme then, and Ashton was the only oasis that could quench her thirst.
- She yearned to hug him tightly, savoring his warmth and heartbeat.
- That aside, she yearned to kiss him, passionately so.
- Alas, her plan was disrupted.
- “Beth, I need to talk to you,” Hendrix called out, stopping her from leaving.
- Bethany halted in her tracks.
- He likely wouldn't just give up like that. Kissing Ashton is something I have a lifetime to enjoy. Right now, Hendrix is even more important. Based on my understanding of him, he wouldn't just let it go. I want to see what exactly he's planning next!
- “Sure,” Bethany replied.
- Ashton's receding figure stiffened slightly.
- Fiona threw him a glance.
- In an exasperated voice, she muttered, “Brat, if you're into Beth, then put some effort into it. If someone else snatches away the woman that's practically your wife, don't come crying to me!”
- Ashton lowered his gaze.
- As always, he fibbed curtly, “I don't like her.”
- Fiona was livid and immediately started sarcastically, “Right. You don't like her and definitely didn't rush to the banquet hall because you knew Bethany had come!”
- Ashton fell silent for a moment.
- Then, he remarked, “You seem full of energy, so it appears you're fine.”
- “That's because Beth had given me medication!”
- One was so cold that it was as if his temperature was sub-zero, whereas the other fumed as if a volcano was about to erupt.
- Yet, they were extremely harmonious.
- In the greenhouse, Hendrix suppressed his overwhelming fury.
- His countenance was as amiable as ever.
- “Beth, I was too anxious just now that I raised my voice at you. I hope I didn't frighten you?” His face was a picture of guilt. “At the sight of you crying earlier, my heart broke.”
- “It's fine.” Bethany likewise suppressed her repulsion. “Didn't you say you have something to tell me?”
- Hendrix gazed at her.
- She was longer her imposing self in the banquet hall but had reverted to her usual self once again.
- “Beth, do you still want to break off your engagement with Ashton?” he asked in a deep voice.
- “What do you mean?”
- At this point, Bethany had an edge as an actress.
- She looked at Hendrix with a face full of anticipation.
- “I've thought of a solution, but... it's a bit risky. I'm not sure if you can handle it,” Hendrix said in a low voice, then hesitated and waved his hand dismissively. “Forget it. This plan would undoubtedly work in breaking off the engagement, but it might turn you and Ashton into sworn enemies for good.”
- If it were Bethany's past self hearing those words, she would have probably jumped for joy at such good fortune.
- “Let's hear it first.” Bethany's tone was serious yet laced with a hint of urgency.
- Noticing that, Hendrix breathed a sigh of relief.
- Even though he wasn't sure why Bethany targeted him in the banquet hall, everything was fine since her determination to break off the engagement remained unshaken.
- “Actually, it's quite simple.” Hendrix lowered his voice before he continued, “Later, all you need to do is admit that you intentionally caused Grandma's allergic reaction to break off your engagement with Ashton. However, seeing her allergic reaction, you were worried she might die and you'd be criminally liable, so you panicked and gave her medication.”
- After hearing it all, Bethany almost burst out laughing.
- Those words sounded all too familiar.
- In her previous life, Ashton initially refused to believe that she would harm Fiona.
- Only after her death did she discover that Eliana used her phone to send a text message to him.
- The content essentially mirrored what Hendrix had just said.
- Now that she had been reincarnated, she ruined Hendrix's plans. And this time, he decided to have her confess directly.
- How foolish I must have been in the previous life that he dares reveal such a sinister plan to me so audacious!
