Chapter 11 Eradicate The Source Of Trouble

  • “Then, it must have been someone else who added it for you.” Ashton's voice was frosty. “Iris, since Bethany herself denied it, how did you know there were nuts in the cake?”
  • Once upon a time, Bethany was most afraid of him speaking in such a manner.
  • But right then, she felt no fear at all. Instead, she felt an immense sense of security.
  • Iris was bewildered.
  • In the next moment, Hendrix suddenly cried out in agony, “Mom, what on earth did you do?”
  • Taken aback, Iris looked at Hendrix.
  • A silent exchange passed between mother and son.
  • Iris immediately understood that they couldn't afford to both be implicated at the same time.
  • As long as one lived, there was hope.
  • “It was me! I did it all by myself! No one else was involved!” Iris declared. Pointing at Fiona, she cursed, “Fiona, you sanctimonious old hag, I've long wished for your death! Hendrix is the eldest son and grandson of the Clark family, yet you refused to acknowledge him, handing the inheritance rights to your own grandson instead! My hatred for you is more than bone-deep!”
  • “Mom! My father was born of a mistress. I never had the right to compete with Ashton. How misguided of you!” Hendrix rebuked, a look of deep sorrow and frustration on his face.
  • Enduring the intense pain in his chest, he scrambled up and knelt on the ground, prostrating himself before Fiona.
  • “Grandma, in light of her contribution to the Clark family's bloodline, coupled with the fact that you're fine, please spare my mother this time. I beg you! I will resign from Clark Group, give up my inheritance rights, and take my mother far away, putting an end to her misguided aspirations. All I ask is that you spare her life!”
  • Hendrix cried bitterly.
  • Even the most hard-hearted passerby would likely be moved by the devotion of that filial son.
  • However, Bethany was the exception.
  • To solve a problem completely, one had to eradicate the source of trouble.
  • Hendrix is incredibly cunning. Once he manages to escape today and have a chance to lie in waiting, there'd be a ticking time bomb by Ashton's side. Moreover, he certainly did not show any mercy in my previous life.
  • “Hendrix, did you truly have no part in plotting against Grandma Fiona?” Bethany enunciated, staring at Hendrix.
  • Tears streamed down Hendrix's face as he looked at Bethany. “Beth, I know you've always felt resentful because I refused to date you. You told me that your engagement to Ashton caused you great pain, begging me to find a way to free you. I came up with this plan, and you agreed to it. So, it turns out that you just wanted to get back at me!”
  • At his words, the expressions of those of the Clark family varied.
  • Helen's expression turned an unnatural shade of red.
  • Is she blind or what? She grew up by Old Mrs. Clark's side and is an actress in the entertainment industry. Why does she have no sense of aesthetics at all? Even a blind man would choose my son over Hendrix!
  • Hendrix continued acting, adding, “But I am Ashton's brother. How could I possibly date his fiancée? Even if you despise me, given another chance, I would still reject you!”
  • Just when everyone was anticipating Bethany to be utterly embarrassed, she laughed instead.
  • She looked at Hendrix as if he was a clown. “Hendrix, even in your dreams, be a bit more realistic. Me, passing up Ashton to date you? Don't you know your own worth?”
  • Hendrix's expression instantly stiffened.
  • A flicker of surprise also flashed across Ashton's eyes.
  • “Don't try to change the subject.” Bethany wasn't affected by Hendrix's diversion tactic. She turned her gaze to Graham. “Graham, where did you get your bottle of anti-allergic medication?”
  • Hendrix's pupils dilated in shock.
  • The initial plan was for him to sneak that bottle of medication away amidst the ensuing chaos during the birthday banquet.
  • But because of Bethany's interference that day, he was thrown into disarray and had no chance to swipe it.
  • “Mr. Hendrix gave it to me!” Understanding dawned upon Graham belatedly. He quickly took out the bottle of medication from his pocket. “The medication is right here!”
