Chapter 6 Still Had An Allergic Reaction
- When Bethany appeared at the birthday banquet, Hendrix was actually quite surprised.
- He had everything planned out with Eliana that Bethany would completely disappear, untraceable by anyone for the next two months.
- But then, he quickly regained his composure.
- So what if she turned up? It's no big deal. Regardless, she's destined to shoulder the blame for the old hag's death! The trap I set is inescapable, and there's absolutely no way for her to break free!
- “You have no idea how delighted Grandma was when she saw the cake you brought,” Hendrix said with an elegant smile. As he spoke, he took the cake from the housekeeper and held it out to Fiona. “Grandma, try the cake Beth picked out and see if it's delicious!”
- “Beth choose it, so it's bound to be delicious!”
- While saying that, Fiona moved to take the cake.
- However, Bethany beat her to it, pushing Hendrix's hand away and demanding sternly, “Hendrix, can Grandma Fiona eat this?”
- Hendrix's spine abruptly stiffened.
- Has she... discovered something?
- Bethany keenly caught the fleeting panic that flashed across his eyes.
- With that, she knew the answer to that question—Hendrix had a hand in Fiona's death.
- “Weren't... Weren't you the one who bought this, Beth?” Hendrix glanced around at the surrounding guests and asked with a face full of embarrassment, quickly gathering his wits about him.
- “This was purchased for the guests to eat. Grandma Fiona can't have it because of her health issues. Didn't you know that, Hendrix?” she asked once more in the presence of the guests.
- Under the deliberate advertising by Iris, it became a well-known fact that the eldest grandson of the second branch of the family was even more filial to Fiona than Ashton, her own grandson.
- But then, it made no sense that such a filial grandson didn't know about Fiona's health issues.
- If he had known yet still given her such an overly sweet treat, that would only be perceived even worse.
- Therefore, regardless of how Hendrix responded to that question, the filial persona he had painstakingly built would be gone.
- Now that Bethany had been reincarnated, there was no way she would let Hendrix exploit Ashton's reputation to shape his public image again.
- At that moment, Hendrix was so frustrated with Bethany that he could have strangled her.
- Has this b*tch lost her mind? From the moment she arrived, she targeted me at every turn! Could it be that... she had discovered my roll in the hay with Eliana?
- Before he could figure it out, a housekeeper gasped sharply all of a sudden.
- “Old Mrs. Clark, why has a patch of skin on the back of your neck turned red? Are you having an allergic reaction?”
- Hendrix instantly snapped out of his thoughts.
- D*mn it! Signs of an allergic reaction are already showing before the old hag even had a chance to eat the cake! Never mind. I'll go with the flow.
- “How could this be?” Bethany looked at the back of Fiona's neck in surprise, where there was indeed a blotch of red.
- It's clear that she's having an allergic reaction, but she hasn't even touched the cake, much less eaten it!
- The symptoms of an allergy reaction came like a tidal wave.
- Within a matter of seconds, Fiona was already struggling to breathe.
- “Grandma Fiona, don't panic. I—” Bethany immediately reached into her pocket.
- On her way there, she felt that Fiona's delayed treatment might have been due to the absence of medication nearby during her allergic reaction.
- Just in case, she got out of the car and purchased a bottle of anti-allergic medication when she passed by a pharmacy.
- “Graham, hurry up and bring Grandma's anti-allergic medication over!”
- Before Bethany could even take out the medication, Hendrix frantically rushed over.
- Graham was lost for a moment before he quickly pulled out a bottle of medication from his pocket.
- “Thank goodness you reminded me that with so many people and things at the banquet, Old Mrs. Clark might come into contact with something she's allergic to, Mr. Hendrix.”
- While saying that, he poured out a tablet, intending to feed it to Fiona.
- In those few seconds, a possibility flashed through Bethany's mind like a bolt of lightning.
- Grandma Fiona didn't touch the cake but still had an allergic reaction. That means there's nothing wrong with the cake. Or someone is intent on making this trap airtight. The issue isn't just the cake. There must be something else.
- She cast her gaze at the tablet in Graham's hand.
