Chapter 7 I Missed You So Much

  • Smack!
  • Bethany raised her arm and slapped Graham's hand away.
  • The tablet fell to the floor.
  • “Bethany, what are you doing!” Hendrix lambasted.
  • “It was an accident!” Bethany fibbed, brushing him off without even sparing him a glance, swiftly taking out the medication she bought and pouring out two tablets. “Grandma Fiona, I also have some medication here. Take them quickly!”
  • Fiona had absolute trust in Bethany.
  • Without hesitation, she swallowed the medication.
  • “You're fine now,” Bethany reassured gently, supporting Fiona and stroking the older woman's back.
  • Hendrix was utterly stumped.
  • In his quest to kill Fiona, his plan that day was incredibly thorough.
  • Not only did he add nut flour into the cake, but he also tampered with her anti-allergic medication.
  • After she had taken it, her allergic reaction wouldn't have improved at all but would only have worsened.
  • He was even afraid she wouldn't eat the cake, so he deliberately grazed her neck with an allergen when he walked past her a moment ago.
  • Although the effect of skin contact wasn't as severe as consuming it directly, she would take her medication as long as she had an allergic reaction.
  • In the end, the outcome would remain the same.
  • The nut flour in the cake could easily be detected through a test anyway, and he would have reason to drag Bethany into the mess.
  • But right then, the latter ruined his plans completely.
  • “Bethany, what did you feed Grandma?” Hendrix rebuked angrily. Then, he ordered Graham, “Graham, don't let her act recklessly. Quickly, give Grandma her anti-allergic medication!”
  • “I gave Grandma Fiona anti-allergic medication,” Bethany said, lifting her hand and brandishing the medication bottle in her hand. Her eyes, bright and beautiful, were fixed on Hendrix. “Hendrix, we're on the same wavelength. I was also worried about the crowd and the variety of things at the banquet. So, I brought a bottle of medication. Don't worry. Grandma Fiona is fine now.”
  • As if proving the veracity of her words, Fiona's breathing immediately eased.
  • Upon seeing that, everyone around breathed a sigh of relief.
  • “What are you guys arguing about?”
  • A chilly voice echoed from the rear of the crowd.
  • Bethany was slightly taken aback.
  • She raised her eyes and cast her gaze over.
  • At just that moment, the crowd parted.
  • Dressed in a pristine white suit, Ashton wore an indifferent expression, seemingly oblivious to the crowd around him as he descended the steps.
  • He was very tall, with an impressively upright posture. Every movement of his exuded an air of nobility.
  • His countenance was strikingly handsome.
  • He was incredibly stunning without a single flaw.
  • Most importantly, he appeared healthy and vibrant.
  • He looked nothing like his emaciated self before he died in the previous life.
  • Tears streamed down Bethany's face uncontrollably.
  • Ashton, it's been a while since I've last seen you. I missed you so much.
  • Ashton was not fond of crowds or noise. When the banquet began, he made an appearance before retreating upstairs for some peace and solitude.
  • Just a moment ago, a housekeeper informed him that she saw Bethany running all the way into the banquet hall.
  • Worried about her, he came downstairs.
  • Although Bethany had always been at odds with him, he had never anticipated that it had come to the point where the mere sight of him instantly brought her to tears.
  • The esteemed man whose expression remained unchanged in the face of catastrophe was stunned.
  • Does she... despise me that much?
  • “Mr. Ashton, Old Mrs. Clark had an allergic reaction for some inexplicable reason. Fortunately, Ms. Bethany and I had medication with us. She's all right now,” Graham hurriedly explained.
  • Ashton's gaze darkened, and he quickly strode toward Fiona.
  • “I'm fine. Beth had already given me medication. Oh, Beth, why are you crying? I'm fine now. Don't cry! Don't cry!” As soon as Fiona turned, she found Bethany in tears.
  • The sight of her teary-eyed rendered her incredibly pitiful.
  • She glanced at Ashton, who remained indifferent and even wore a dark expression on his face.
  • She smacked him on the arm.
  • “Why are you standing idly here? Comfort her!”
  • Ashton was struck dumb.
  • She burst into tears at the sight of me. If I were to speak, wouldn't it just make it worse?
