Chapter 11 Midnight Intrusions Two

  • Ella’s eyes grew wide with shock as she read Reid’s message. As she carefully unfolded the fragile pages of her journal, the words inside showed how much Gerald had affected her life in the past. Nearly twenty pages of private thoughts from long ago were now open before her. It brought back painful memories of the love that had once grown strong and the end that had left a permanent mark on her soul. Reid quickly ends the call whenever she tries to contact the man. Ella promptly tapped on the keys, creating a message. Her mind was full of words that just flowed out of her fingers. Each keystroke was an intentional act of speech. The well-thought-out message carried the weight of her thoughts, ready to be read by the man on the other end of the line.
  • Me: You are so impolite to tamper with my journal. I told you not to touch it. Didn’t you know the word privacy?
  • Soon after sending the message to Reid, her phone’s resonating sound went off again, letting her know that a video call was coming. When Ella looked at the bright screen and saw the name “Reid,” she felt a deep sense of silence hit him. Like a faraway echo, the man’s call went unheard as if the weight of that name had a force that stopped her in her tracks. When the rhythmic chimes on her phone stopped, a chorus of sounds came, letting her know she had a new message.
