Chapter 5 Rebellious Teenager

  • Aileen and Sandra were acquainted with each other. They had spoken several times when they ran into each other at the hospital.
  • Sandra was a talented actress. She warmly smiled at Aileen and addressed her as "Mrs. Wagner."
  • Instead of denying it, Aileen smiled and nodded.
  • This repulsed her.
  • Sandra raised an eyebrow and examined Aileen from head to toe. "I envy you," she smiled. "Everyone in our department agrees that Cole is an amazing man. He is the standard that all the girls are looking for in a partner. And he treats you so well. By the way, I don't have your number yet, right? Let's exchange contact details, shall we? I heard you're working at Horizon Education. I have a few cousins who are preparing for their exams. I can introduce them to you."
  • Aileen didn't know what Sandra was up to, but she was curious to see what she had planned. She took out her phone, and they added each other on Facebook.
  • While Brenda was asleep in the afternoon, Aileen checked Sandra's profile.
  • There was nothing suspicious at all.
  • Just regular life updates.
  • She then looked through Alvin's page. There was even less to see. Besides some medical articles, there wasn't much else.
  • In the evening, Aileen decided to stop by her home to pick up some clean clothes for her mom. Brenda was scheduled for surgery tomorrow, and she knew she wouldn't be able to leave the hospital.
  • While waiting for the elevator, she received a text from Alvin.
  • 'I just finished work. Will I see you tonight?'
  • She thought about her response when the elevator dinged and the door opened.
  • She looked up and saw Alvin in the elevator.
  • There was no one else but him in there. He finished work early today. Aileen entered without greeting him.
  • There were surveillance cameras in the elevator.
  • Leaning against the wall, Alvin put his phone in his pocket. She hadn't replied to him, but it didn't matter because she was right there.
  • "What do you say?" he asked.
  • "I can't today. The surgery is tomorrow. I won't have time then either." She thought about it before adding, "I need to go home to get some clothes first."
  • He raised an eyebrow, "You're coming?"
  • After a moment's thought, Aileen said, "Maybe later."
  • "I'll wait for you."
  • Aileen stood in front of him. She could feel the intensity of his gaze on her. Her neck felt hot. They weren't touching, and yet she could feel his warmth.
  • It was beyond her control.
  • Aileen knew this was a dangerous game. But like a rebellious teenager, she couldn't resist.
  • They both went their separate ways when the door opened.
  • Like two strangers.
  • Alvin circled the parking lot before pulling up next to Aileen. "Hop in. I'll drive you. I don't want to be stood up if you decide not to come."
  • Aileen froze, "But I've called for a cab."
  • "Cancel it. I'll make it up to you."
  • Aileen didn't move.
  • Neither did Alvin.
  • They were at a standstill, attracting glances from passersby. Cars were coming up behind them.
  • They were on a busy street.
  • Alvin's car was drawing a lot of attention.
  • But he didn't seem to care. All he cared about was for her to get in his car.
  • Meeting his determined gaze, Aileen finally gave in.
  • Alvin handed her his phone. "Address."
  • After entering her address, she placed the phone in the holder.
  • The automated voice repeated her address.
  • Aileen asked him to stop a distance away from her apartment. "I'm worried Cole might be here. Wait here for me."
  • Alvin parked the car.
  • Aileen got out and disappeared into an alley.
  • Alvin was hungry. He took out a cigarette and was about to light it when his phone rang. He didn't want to answer when he saw who it was, but he did anyway.
  • "Hello."
  • The unlit cigarette dangled between his fingers.
  • Through the phone, he heard something breaking and a woman's scream.
  • The cigarette snapped between his fingers. He quickly started the car and drove off.
  • He didn't notice Aileen had reappeared from the alley.
  • Surprised to see Alvin's car driving away, Aileen cried out. The car didn't stop. It accelerated quickly as if there was an emergency. Aileen didn't know what to do. She heard footsteps behind her. Without time to think, she ran towards the busy main street.
