Chapter 5 This Woman Is Not Simple
- Rachel stared innocently at Jonathan for a few seconds, appearing naive.
- "I'm your wife. We just got married."
- "You know I'm not talking about that."
- "Then, what are you talking about?" She remained motionless in his embrace and didn't bother to struggle.
- "Don't pretend to be ignorant." He held her chin with his fingertips, his dark eyes gleaming.
- Rachel did not show any panic, and she remained unusually composed.
- She let out a sigh. "Actually, there's no need for you to be so nervous. I won't do anything to harm you."
- Jonathan sneered. Arrogant
- "What can you possibly do for me?"
- "I can heal you. Your paralysis is not normal."
- She had just observed Jonathan's legs. They were stiffening up slowly. In less than three months, his legs would be at risk of amputation.
- Jonathan's brows furrowed. "What do you mean?"
- "Somebody wants to harm you. They tampered with your medication, but I need more time to investigate and find out what happened," she explained earnestly.
- He wasn't surprised that someone wanted to harm him. Too many people in this household wanted him dead.
- She's special. With just a few needles, she could discern that someone had interfered with my treatment.
- But all of this was inconsequential. He didn't need anyone's assistance.
- Jonathan released her and leaned back against the headboard.
- "If you don't want to waste your youth here, it's best for you to leave quickly."
- "I won't leave. We are now husband and wife, bound by a marriage contract. My grandmother always taught me to be trustworthy and to keep my promises."
- And your grandpa won't let me go either.
- For now, she would stay in the Fuller household, investigating her grandmother's cause of death and treating Jonathan's legs. When she eventually left, she wouldn't feel indebted to him.
- Jonathan's eyes narrowed slightly. "I am paralyzed from the waist down. I can't give you what you desire."
- "I don't care about that," she blurted out without hesitation.
- Jonathan was displeased. She doesn't care, or does she think I'm inadequate in bed?
- At that moment, Johnson knocked on the door.
- "Master Jonathan, the master wants the madam to come downstairs."
- Jonathan remained silent, still focused on Rachel.
- This provided Rachel with the perfect excuse to leave.
- "I'll go down first. Don't close the curtains; it's not good for your legs."
- After speaking, she rose from the bed and collected the silver needles from the floor, placing them in her small suitcase. These needles were priceless. She had Brandon search the whole city of Lagrasse for them, and Gina almost destroyed them.
- Once Rachel departed, Jonathan gazed at the sunlight outside. It had been a while since he saw the sun, and its light was blinding. He summoned a servant.
- "Master Jonathan, do you have any orders?"
- "Pull down the curtains."
- "Alright." The servant approached, prepared to draw the curtains.
- "Forget it, you may leave."
- "Okay." The servant couldn't quite comprehend Jonathan's thoughts. They thought his wife was quite capable, though.
- She had actually managed to convince Jonathan, who hadn't seen sunlight in years, to agree to open the curtains.
- "Summon Alistair."
- "Yes."
- The servant called for the assistant, Alistair Sharp.
- "Mr. Fuller."
- "You will investigate Rachel's background. I want every detail about her."
- His intuition told him that this woman was more than meets the eye.
- When Alistair encountered Rachel earlier in the living room, he briefly assessed her. It was… difficult to comment about her. Her looks and attire were… interesting.
- Nothing to look into about her. Heard she came from the countryside.
- "She was chosen by the master, so there shouldn't be any issues."
- Jonathan looked down and rolled his sleeves up. The look in his eyes turned sharper, and he spoke solemnly.
- "Shouldn't be any issues? She noticed right away that someone was trying to sabotage me."
- Alistair was taken aback. "Are you suggesting that she noticed something about your leg?"
- "Go and investigate, now!"
