Chapter 8 She's Our Mate

  • Yael's POV:
  • My body was exhausted and worn down after a fierce battle but I couldn't rest yet.
  • I had to gather enough strength to hunt down every traitor among the wolves. If I didn't, they'd surely join forces with outsiders to launch another attack.
  • Just as I finished summoning all the pack Alphas for a meeting, my phone rang. It was Skyvale.
  • I answered eagerly, "Did you find her?"
  • Yesterday, the witches—who had only just signed a peace agreement with us—launched a surprise attack on the werewolf packs.
  • And to make things worse, yesterday was the first day of my annual heat.
  • My wolf, Felix, comes from an ancient and rare bloodline, far stronger than any other wolf species. However, he has one weakness similar to mine—the heat cycle that occurs once a year.
  • The easiest way to deal with it would be to find a female wolf to mate with, but neither I nor Felix could bear the thought of mating with someone we didn't love. My wolf refuses to touch anyone other than our fated mate.
  • Since I still haven't found my fated mate, I usually endure the heat by relying on suppressant injections. Heat is my most vulnerable time, so I usually hide away in the Blackwell Palace until it passes.
  • I never expected those treacherous witches to betray the peace agreement and attack us during my heat. Even worse, they managed to corrupt my personal physician and poison my suppressant with wolfsbane!
  • The poison hit me without warning during the battle.
  • It felt like my organs were being scorched by fire but I couldn't show any sign of pain. If the witches realized something was wrong, they'd strike even harder.
  • Despite the agony burning through me, I led the wolves into battle with all my strength. The witches began to retreat and I could hear their frustrated voices.
  • "What's going on? Shouldn't he be poisoned by now? Why is he still so strong?"
  • "We can't hold out much longer. Fall back!"
  • I had already reached my limit.
  • Felix's voice came weakly in my mind. "Yael, find somewhere private. I can't hold your form much longer."
  • Felix had been fighting the effects of the poison with me, helping me push through.
  • He was fading, and if I shifted back into human form now, the fleeing witches would realize I'd been poisoned. They might rally and launch a counterattack.
  • I quickly ordered my Beta, Skyvale, to continue leading the warriors to chase down the retreating witches but to stop at the border and return once they'd driven them out.
  • With the last of my strength, I distanced myself from their sight and made my way to the neutral grounds—the Eclipse Hotel.
  • I entered a random room, killing the Rogue who had been inside, and shifted back into human form.
  • "Felix? Felix, are you still there?"
  • There was no response. Felix must have been too badly injured.
  • All I could do now was wait for my body to flush out the poison and slowly heal on its own.
  • However, with the suppressant tainted by poison, its effect wasn't strong enough. Soon, I felt an intense heat building inside me.
  • My heat had begun.
  • I needed another suppressant, but with Felix injured, I couldn't shift and run back to the palace. I had no choice but to endure it.
  • The poison still seared my insides and a burning pain raged through my organs. At the same time, my body was consumed by the fire of lust.
  • It was a relentless, double-edged torment.
  • I swore to myself that I would tear those witches apart once I recovered.
  • No one could help me now. I had to push through on my own.
  • Just as I was on the verge of losing consciousness from the overwhelming pain and desire, the door suddenly creaked open.
  • Even without Felix, I could see everything clearly in the dark.
  • A female wolf entered the room. The moment she stepped in, I caught a whiff of roses.
  • I swore I'd never smelled anything so divine. Just inhaling that scent dulled the pain coursing through my body.
  • Every fiber of my being screamed for the female wolf with the rose fragrance.
  • Without thinking, I grabbed her and pinned her beneath me. There was only one thought echoing through my mind, I had to mate with her.
  • Once the initial flames of heat began to subside, my mind cleared somewhat. The female wolf beneath me was screaming as she reached another peak of pleasure.
  • In all my 25 years, this was my first time mating with a female werewolf. I hadn't expected it to feel so incredible.
  • I didn't know if it was just because of the heat, or if this female wolf was special, but I was completely captivated by her youthful and enchanting body. I couldn't get enough of her intoxicating scent.
  • After one of our many rounds of mating, the most miraculous thing happened. Felix stirred awake.
  • He roared excitedly in my mind, "Mate! Yael, she's our mate! We've finally found her!"
