• Chloe stared at the briefcase of money in Nix's hand but did not reach out to take it.
• She shook her head. "If you hadn't helped me resolve this matter, Michelle and I would be driven out of our house. The money belongs to you. I can't take it."
• Nix smiled. "I'm Michelle's father now, and it's my duty to help her and by extension, help you. If you don't want to take this money for free, we can pretend that I'm lending you the money, and you can pay me a little extra every month."
