Chapter 7 (The Dna Test)

  • Harper
  • I heard every damn thing when I went to give Madam Calantha her phone. I heard it all….. To claim the fortune that his father had left in heritage assets management, Logan needs an heir.
  • This information could have been interesting but not anymore, he is planning for a DNA test once the pregnancy matures to five weeks.
  • I sighed, trailing my tongue over my dry lips in frustration as I opened the door and immediately the sweet aroma of lotus seed soup hit my nose, causing my stomach to grumble.
  • “My baby!!!" My mom exclaimed, her overly excited voice almost deafening my ears. She rushed forward and grabbed me into a deep warm hug. My dad also stepped forward and hugged us from the side.
  • What is happening?
  • They all seemed so excited….. The atmosphere in this house has never been this lively and the aroma…. I paused, my nose flared up as I sniffed the air before my gaze fell on the dining table. I gasped, staring widely at the varieties of food.
  • Grilled chicken salad, mixed greens, veggies, and whole grain crackers. In the middle is a big pot of soup, which I am sure is the lotus seed soup that I had been perceiving.
  • What is actually going on?
  • As if on a clue, my mother’s calm voice drew me back to the present, “You made us proud, child," she said, her voice cracking as tears pooled up in her eyes but that only confused me more.
  • "We saw the news, daughter,” Dad quickly blurted out, earning an oh from me as everything started clicking in. “Still can’t believe, you’re carrying the first heir of Winston household," Mom giggled, shockingly examining my stomach.
  • So it was that…. I smirked, and my throbbing heart started to relax. A dirty glint flashed in my eyes.
  • My earlier anxiety was long forgotten as I watched the proud smiles on my parent’s faces. The look on their faces is all that I needed, any other thing don’t f******g concern me!!
  • “What about that good-for-nothing sister of yours?" Dad spat out in resentment and my smile deepened, making my heart swell as I turned to face him.
  • “They divorced. She left," I shrugged like it doesn’t matter, the dirty smirk never leaving my face. And suddenly, a satisfied look colored their faces and Dad instantly let out a sigh of relief.
  • "Of course, she has no place there,” Mom dissed while leading me to the dining room. “I even feel so sad that Madam Calantha had to pull through with that b*th for this long, poor woman," she sighed. Dad pulled out a chair for me to sit in as Mom rounded over to serve the food.
  • Cool music was playing in the background, “The Land Is Your Land" by Woody Guthrie. I guess we are celebrating!!!!!
  • I giggled, enjoying every bit of this, the way they were actually treating me like some sort of princess. Yo…. Don’t get me wrong, they have always treated me this way but today’s own hmmm…
  • It seems so perfect, not just that but the Internet seems to be on fire as well. The joy of seeing a lot… almost everyone siding me over that shitty fat ugly b*tch that I had as a sister.
  • Hahaha, I bet she will not enter social media for a year because if she does_ trust me, she will be driving into more depression.
  • I wish I had seen her face when she saw the news, her look, I know it will look like a deer in the headlights….. like a piece of shit.
  • I giggled, picturing her as those her fat cheeks flashed in my head.
  • I wonder where she fled to, na na na… who cares!
  • I shrugged and inched forward to grab tuna salad sandwiches on whole grain bread but my hands were immediately squatted away. “Mom!!"
  • “No no, first wash your hand," her serious face is on as she points at the water bowl on the table and I whine, pouting. “Do you even know the child you are carrying? Is not even anyhow child but the apparent heir to Winston’s family, so you should be extra careful,” she said and I groaned, sucking as I washed my hands.
  • "Hygiene,” she adds, moving back to focus on dishing the food.
  • "Your mom is right, princess, from today onwards, you will not be touching anything," Dad cuts in, pouring out fresh fruit in the glass tumbler for me. “No stress, if you need anything just call and we will handle it." He winked and flipped his fingers in the air and I giggled.
  • So this is life. I dreamily hugged myself, inching forward to grab another piece of chicken when my mother’s words quickly cut through my thoughts, wiping off the smile.
  • “I am glad that Logan chose you over that fat naive girl," my face immediately paled and I gulped hard, my hand hanging mid way in the air as I heard my mom continue. “.... Besides who couldn’t choose you over that vomit, a barren woman," she cursed and I felt my heart skip a beat.
  • I wished Logan truly chose me, to him I was just used for business. Those fierce looks I saw on his face when he entered still cringe my bones.
  • He is supposed to be happy right that she left? That was his plan so why angry…. Was it because I violated the rules?
  • But I am pregnant, that’s the main thing he should be focused on. They need the baby!!
  • But hell no, he is considering a DNA test for what exactly?
  • “Princess!!"
  • Logan is proving hard to get, I guess if I get closer to Madam Calantha, though she already seems fond of me because of the baby. So now I think I have to use her to get to Logan.
  • She is the only means now.
  • “He is such his mother’s boy,” I mentally taunt, a tiny smirk forming on my bottom lips.
  • “Princess, hello!!"
  • I won’t allow this opportunity to slip out of my grasp.
  • "Harper,” my mom gently shook my shoulder and I jolted back immediately, caught off guard. I lifted my gaze to see the confused looks on their faces.
  • Damnit.
  • “Are you alright, Princess?" Dad pushed the tumbler in front of me, and I instantly grabbed it, my hand tightened around the glass of juice. I swallowed hard, pushing back the troubled thoughts, “I’m fine, Dad,"
  • “No, I don’t think so," Mom’s sharp voice cuts in. She placed the plate filled with food in front of me and then pulled out a chair to sit down. Concern etched on her face, “What’s wrong sweetheart, you know you can always count on us?"
  • Fuck, what should I say?
  • My heart started pounding very fast and I indirectly looked around to find their worried eyes staring back at me.
  • My mind racked around for excuses before something instantly clicked in and I sniffed, forcing tears to appear in my eyes as I bit hard on my lips.
  • "What’s wrong, Princess?” Dad is already beside me just like always.
  • I inhaled sharply, dragging in a deep breath.
  • "Nothing, it is just that they’re already planning for an engagement party and I don’t know if I am ready," I sniffed, crying and the worried look faltered off their faces.
  • “Oh, my darling," Mom stood up and slowly walked over to me, pulling my head to rest on her shoulder as she and Dad smoothly patted my back. "We understand, you are just nervous but believe us, you will be fine. We are sure Winston's household will treat you well, especially Logan, you’re carrying his seed, the heir." She kept saying as they caressed my back but I didn't think so.
  • My heart tightened, and I clenched my jaw, those looks on Logan’s face kept flashing back in my head like a warning. All these she said will be possible only if he won’t run that test.
  • If I can get to make him fall for me, I think it will make things much easier.
