Chapter 10 (The New Trending Business Company)
- Logan
- Time flies like the wind, it has been seven good years now. Yet there has been no trace of Victoria, nobody knows a thing about her.
- She left and everything about her got shut out.
- Whether she is alive or dead, no one knows.
- I have even stopped searching, already tired of getting the same news for the past few years.
- The doctor said that the miscarriage affected Harper’s womb and she might have zero chances of conceiving naturally.
- It was painful, my life has been a mess. Trying to run out of a problem then you see yourself falling deeper into another.
- It has been crazy.
- Is not something to be paid off, she had the miscarriage because of ME!!! Mom was more than mad when she heard the news, and now I had no other option than to go on with the engagement.
- At least that was the least I could offer.
- But honestly, these whole years have been so messier and tougher for me, especially with my company.
- My status!!!
- I groaned, and quietly hit my two palms in my head repeatedly out of frustration. But that was for a short moment because my thoughts were instantly cut in by the deafening bang of the door against the wall, leaving a splintered mark.
- I snapped my head up, quickly, “Mom!" I muttered, confused, looking at the fuming woman before me.
- Her face furrowed in anger as she matched in, entering further inside my office like an angry lioness.
- I don’t know why she is here but just her presence smells trouble. And I am having a terrible headache right now.
- “What is the problem?"
- She tossed her handbag on the couch and furiously placed her two palms in front of my desk, her sharp gaze piercing madly at me. Now, this is Mrs. Calantha Winston. “What is that, I am hearing?!" She snapped.
- My face cringed, and I raised my left brow, still confused.
- “We’re going bankrupt, son!!" I sighed, raking my hand through my hair frustratedly. “From the top company in the world's best business chart to number 7!!" She yelled, almost deafening my eardrums.
- I snapped my eyes open, instantly holding my ears.
- "Easy Mom, I am working on that,”
- "Wow!” She mocked, leaning back with her arms folded across her chest and I grit my teeth, looking away. "Really?" She c****d her side lips before snarling, her voice rising. “You’re doing no sh*t! This is what you have been saying for the past years… even the new company that started yesterday has beat you hands down. What is f****g wrong with you?!”
- "Mom! For goodness sake, I am working." I almost raised my voice but instantly gulped hard, struggling to contain my anger. “Don’t worry; in no time, we will get back on our feet," I said, forcing out a smile to convince her even though I was not sure of my words. Honestly, I am even scared of the way things are going these periods.
- Mom scoffed, wiping off those smiles on my face, "No!” She shook her head, and my jaw clenched. "In no time, we will be at the bottom, this company will go into extinction… Flop!!! Bankrupt, we will move back to the street!!”
- "Mom!!” I yelled, slamming my fist angrily on the desk as I instinctively stood up, knocking the chair down. I have had enough.
- She thinks I am comfortable; I am frustrated!
- But she doesn’t care….. about my health, my mental health! All she wants is this and that, everything in her own way!!
- Seeing the blazing rage in my eyes, she paused and pressed her lips together. “I made this company global, I gave it the name, the fame and you think I still can’t get it to the top again?"
- “Yes," she shot back, causing my eye to flip up shockingly. She also doesn’t believe in me. “Because for the past years after that thing left!!" She yelled again, her voice raising as she pointed her finger toward the empty space.
- Here we go, I heaved out, scratching my hair roughly in frustration.
- It has been seven years since Victoria left yet she still won’t get her name off her lips.
- Easy to blame her for any misfortune….. for any fucking mistake!!
- “.....You lost it, son," her voice is a bit calmer now. I scowled, looking away. “I am your mother, I know the best for you, I don’t understand what you are trying to prove when the solution is right in front of you. Dominick left everything for you, a generational wealth. You just have to do just one simple thing…. Just a child!”
- I veered instantly, snapping my head at her. A man that sees me as Incompetent. He has to lay down a condition because he thinks I will waste his wealth…. The so-called properties!!
- I had to build myself up!! If I accept these silly conditions, don’t you think that makes him right? I had been following those rules_ playing along because of Mom but not anymore.
- I had built my empire. I am not following his archaic rules, since he doesn’t see me fit as a son to leave the inheritance without stupid rules, then let him keep it.
- Fuck it… I need to prove to him that I am not Incompetent as he said. I am not useless like he claimed!!!
- I rubbed my temple, stopping to glance at my mom, and my frown deepened. “I need to work now, Mom,"
- "Get Harper pregnant,” her words hit my ears and I paused instantly, my fist tightened, squeezing the files in my hand. I tried to control my raging nerves before lifting my head at her, my lips curling into a tight smile. "Haven’t I done what you wanted? I got engaged to her,” she rolled her eyes. "Besides the doctor said she can’t conceive,”
- Mom snickered and cut in sharply, shutting me off. “IVF,"
- "Tell me what happened to IVF!!” She yelled, dramatically throwing her hands in the air. But before I could reply, the door was instantly pushed open and Bronson walked in.
- We both snapped our eyes at him and he paused instantly, sensing the tension in the air as his curious gaze switched between us.
- "Good morning Madam Calantha," he coughed lightly, trying to ease the tension a bit but Mom immediately snapped, shutting him up. “What’s good about this morning? Why can't you advise your friend? The wife of Dominick Winston won’t go back to the street!!"
- “Mom!!"
- Bronson’s surprised gaze snapped back at me before trailing back to the furious woman in our midst.
- “Madam….
- “Shut up!" She yelled, interrupting him once again and I balled my fists in anger. She then turned to me with a disappointed snort, “This is not over, stop by my place for dinner,"
- Never!!! I mumbled quickly in my head, I am not giving in to those offers that will lead to another endless argument.
- She angrily picked up her handbag and walked out of the office, pushing Bronson out of her way.
- Immediately the door slammed shut, We both heaved out a sigh of relief and the tense tension seemed to start reducing.
- I groaned, plopping down on my chair. My headache worsened, causing me to lean my head back with my eyes shut.
- Bronson shook his head and quickly rushed over to sit in the next chair in front of me, “Why was she that furious?"
- “Why are you here?" I asked, instead, snapping my eyes open. My face was cold and devoid of any emotions.
- Bronson got the hint and sighed, “I saw the news online." I exhale deeply, the same news again. “We are slowly going bankrupt, bro and the shareholders have started threatening to withdraw,"
- I rubbed my clenched jaw repeatedly, frustration eating me deeply.
- My shoulder slumped.
- “But I met with Mr. Micheal Reed, the business agent, this morning. I spoke with him and he had promised to connect us to the CEO of the Toria NovaSpire Group,” he finished and I gave him the look like he was mad_ stupid to be precise.
- What an impossible imagination. An empire that nobody knows the real face or person behind it.
- “Guy, I have checked and this is the only way we can step up huge. They are the biggest brand globally right now. This is our only chance," he voiced out in a desperate tone.
- And I rolled my eyes at him, resting back on the chair. "You want us to travel to Seoul to meet a mysterious CEO? What if they refused? Is going to be a waste of money.” I shook my head, my lips pressed together. “We have already lost a lot of money recently."
- "According to Micheal, he said that the CEO will be coming to Los Angeles for some business so we can use the opportunity to meet him. I heard they have never partnered with any brand before, so just imagine us being their first business partner.” he smirked, his face brightened up with confidence but I scoffed, “Him?"
- This is a huge chance for us but I feel oddly uneasy about it.
- He nodded abruptly, “Yes, is definitely going to be a man?”
