Chapter 5
- ~ISABELLA'S POV~
- Silence fell upon the lips of every soul within the court house as I pushed the door open and stepped into the meeting with my head held high.
- My heels clanked against the parquet floors of the court house and the eyes of everyone was on I and my parents.
- What? Have they never seen two women and a man walk into the courthouse before?
- We took our seats beside the rows of chairs reserved for the Whitefangs and I prepared myself for how I would react when I got to see Adrian again.
- My mother clasped her gloved hand over mine and a nervous smile was plastered onto her lips as she watched me.
- My lips drew into a gentle smile and my heart warmed within my chest at the display of love before me.
- After seconds rolled into minutes before the doors of the courthouse were opened once more and all heads turned to see the Alpha walk into the court with Martha, his Luna and Jack's mother by his side.
- Jack stood directly behind them, his brown suit almost seemed like a second skin on his body and the eyes of a few people couldn't help but linger on the young Prince.
- But he's not the one I'm searching for. My eyes moved from every face in the court house, trying to find the pair of red eyes that melts my insides.
- Disappointment washes over me and my heart falls within my chest when I could not find him.
- “Are you looking for someone?”
- My mother's voice pulled me out of my thoughts and I turned my attention from the gathering of people to the wrinkled face of my mother.
- “I'm just checking to see who's here, that's all.”
- “Oh really?”
- I nodded my head and resumed my search even when I knew it wouldn't change the fact that he isn't here.”
- “Or perhaps you are searching for a certain red–eyed fellow.”
- A hue of pink crept up my face and I struggled to find the words to say to my mother and a sigh left my lips when I ran my eyes over every face in this room once more and still came up empty–handed.
- Why isn't he here?
- Just as the Alpha opened his mouth to address us, the door fell open and all eyes turned to the entrance in shock.
- A figure dressed in an all black attire made his way before us with slow, calculated steps. His aura oozed off with control and there wasn't a single person strong enough to pry their eyes off him. Not when he moved like the most powerful man in the world. Not when his bloody red eyes peeped into the soul of everyone present.
- Some stared at him in disgust while others watched him in disdain as he went to stand in behind his father. But me? I watched him with wonder because no matter how much he's despised one thing will always be clear.
- He can kill every soul present in this pack. And he can do it before our brains could even phantom our next thought.
- The Alpha cleared his throat and he sat on his chair while the rest of us followed.
- “Good day to all my present here. I am honored that you have chosen to honor my call for this meeting despite how short notice it was and may the goddess continue to watch over us in our pack.”
- Many nodded their heads at the words of the Alpha while others still had their eyes trained on Adrian. The desolate child looks like the splitting image of his dead mother if it weren't for the red eyes that make him seem more like the spawn of the devil.
- “I called this meeting to discuss the…chaotic event which occurred yesterday at what was meant to be the happiest moment of my son's life…”
- I almost scoff at his words because I know that there is nothing that could make that day the happiest day of Jack's life, if anything it might be the worst.
- “I don't know what happened that resulted in Miss Isabella to run away from her own wedding but we intend to get to the bottom of it because irrespective of the love that blossomed between them the Nites are my just as much my family as sons are to me. They are my right–hands. They are the strongest family after us and It is because of this very bond which has lasted for generations that I would give their daughter a chance to explain herself.”
- Alpha Collin turned to me with a hard expression in his eyes but the hint of a smile on his lips and spoke once more in a calm voice.
- “Isabella, you may now explain your side of the story. Make us understand why you left a man you claimed to love on the altar.”
- My mother gave my hand a gentle squeeze while my father patted my knee as I stood to my feet in front of the Whitefangs and the heads of every important family in the pack.
- My heart pounded against my ribs and let out a shaky breath as I expressed the feelings which have plagued my mind since I was given a second chance at life.
- “I thank the Alpha for giving me a chance to tell my story in front of all you and I thank you all for giving me your ears. It is true that once upon a time, I declared my love for Jack shortly after I had rejected Adrian as my mate…”
- Shame washed over me as the memory of my betrayal flashed before my eyes and tears threatened to fall as I remembered the pain that filled his orbs.
- “ Jack and I aren't mates so we agreed to perform a church mating to compromise. And it was all perfect. But sometime later, my feelings…changed.”
- Murmurs and whispers filled the courtroom and Jack glared at me with cold eyes, urging me to continue talking.
- “Do not misunderstand me. I loved Jack…I still do. But not like how I loved him before because…because I have fallen for someone else.”
- Gasps filled the air and the whispers grew louder till I could no longer hear my own thoughts. Looks of judgment were thrown at me and my parents gave me blank looks.
- “Silence!” Alpha Collin’s voice bounced against the walls and the room became as silent as a graveyard.
- “Now, Isabella. Please tell us who this man you love is.”
- The ghost of a smile touched my lips and I turned to the only pair of red eyes in the room and spoke in a confident voice.
- “My original mate. Adrian Whitefang.
