Chapter 8 Psychopath

  • EVANGELINA
  • I let my fingers move to my hair as I looked around the small room, which Aemilio claimed was hers alone. There was a door that separated her room from Erico, and she didn't know how to feel about that. Well, it's not like anyone cared what I thought about or how I felt about anything.
  • With a sigh, I let my hair fall back on my shoulders. The room was not spacious, but I had slept in worse places, so there was nothing wrong in doing all that again for the billionth time. Though, this one was an upgrade. It had a fridge, a desk, and cupboards to stack things, but other than that, it was lifeless.
  • With a sigh, I walked over to the small bunk bed and sat heavily on it. "What a life," I whispered as I slumped on the bed.
  • I rubbed a hand on my face, trying hard to control my emotions, but tears leaked through my eyes in torrents. This was so unfair. How could a girl who had enjoyed her mother's money for many years be pulled into such a hard life?
  • "I hate you so much, Mr Antonio, for bringing me so much pain. You're the cause of my problems, and I wish with all of my heart that you die a miserable death!" I wailed.
  • I turned around on the bed as I tried not to give in to the despair that clouded my body and soul, but that was so hard to do. I was scared of everything that had happened so far, and I hoped with all I had that things wouldn't get worse.
  • "Gosh!" I said as I sat up, cleaning my tears off angrily. "You need to be grateful that Amelio doesn't look at you with sexual thoughts in his heart, and he didn't offer you up as a whore. Let him say all the mean things he wants in the book. You swallow down your pride," I muttered to myself.
  • I tried to smile to console myself, but nothing happened, and all that was left was an empty void. Just as I was about to rest for a bit, the phone Aemilio had given to me buzzed at once.
  • Was he the one calling me?
  • Quietly, I slid the call button. "Who is it?" I asked quietly.
  • There was no response.
  • "Is someone there?" I asked once more, pulling the phone away from my ears as I tried to verify if I knew the unknown number, but it was a bit strange. There was this fear that Raimundo had found a way to me again. I knew he was obsessed with me, and he still wanted to have sex with me, and that rattled me.
  • I disconnected the call immediately, hoping whoever it was wouldn't call back, but they did. I stared at the phone for a long time, wondering whether it was right to pick up the call. Itching my hair, I picked up the call again, and this time I waited.
  • The only thing I could hear was the sounds of breathing on the other line, and it made my skin crawl. I squeezed my free hand together, hoping that it would help me control the surmounting fear that I felt. It did not. Instead, I was more anxious.
  • "Look, if you don't wish to say anything, please don't call this line again!" I screeched.
  • "Don't be so angry, Evangelina," a voice said.
  • I rose to my feet as sweat matted my forehead despite the air conditioning in the room. "Who is this?" I gulped.
  • "Erico," came the childlike voice.
  • He had not been so childish earlier. What the fuck? I took a deep breath as I tried to control how anxious he had made me right then. "You shouldn't call someone without saying a word; it's bad manners, and I don't like it," I mumbled.
  • "You don't have to shout at me. My brother was the one who got you over, so I need you right now!" He whined.
  • I gritted my teeth as I tried to control how I felt then. "I would be there," I said as I disconnected the call.
  • Oh, God!
  • What was the meaning of all these? His brother was bad enough as it was, but now, I had to take care of someone who called for no reason and was so childish. Or was he childish? Who had the mind to do things like that to others as a child?
  • "I'm not going to think about this again," I mumbled as I waved my hands frantically.
  • With that, I grabbed a hold of my slippers and walked out of the door. I didn't wish to use the adjacent room. It felt like it was not proper for the time being.
  • I knocked lightly on the door, and I heard a lot of scrambling in response. "Hey! Mr Erico?" I called out once more.
  • Erico did not even try to open the door, and I tried hard not to lose my cool. Oh, what was the meaning of this nonsense? He made some weird sounds, and I couldn't tolerate the crap again. I would have to switch off my phone to avoid him calling me when I got to the room.
  • With a sigh, I walked back to my room. But, there, I realized that he must not be used to opening the door for people. My eyes zeroed in on the dark wooden door that separated our rooms with a sigh. Let me go in through there.
  • I moved quickly to the door and took a deep breath to control myself. I couldn't hear anything from here, but I opened the door nevertheless. The first thing I saw was a hamster jumping all over the place, and the next was Mr Erico jumping about with him.
  • What a mess!
  • I ran inside, and the door snapped shut without me turning. "What are you doing?" I Managed.
  • Erico looked at me with a shy smile on his lips. "Playing!" He said at last.
  • I tried not to curse in front of him. "OK, but it's wrong to scatter everything when you play. You need to relax so you won't hurt yourself."
  • He scoffed as he stepped down from the bed before sitting on the floor, folding his hands childishly in the middle. The whole room stank, and it was messy. I would have to fix it up tomorrow before Aemilio got angry at me. But, right now, he had to find where to sleep.
  • "Hey, where do you keep the animal?" I asked.
  • He rolled his eyes. "It's none of your business, Evangelina," he grumbled.
  • I laughed nervously. "I won't separate you from your pet, but I'm simply trying to be helpful."
  • He looked at me for a long time, but it was only a few minutes. "If you want to help me, can you remove this shirt?"
  • "What?"
  • He pouted as he looked towards the door I had come in. This was much harder than I thought. The man needed to be in the hospital and not home. I just don't get it. Why would someone so rich be unable to do the right things to care for his brother?
  • With a sigh, I took the pet from the edge of the bed, placing him up on the small counter that housed about seven sprays. One would quench the foul odors, but I didn't wish to touch it all. Next, I turned back to Erico. He was still sulking.
  • "You don't need to be angry, Erico. I would help you with your shirt," I said softly.
  • He beamed, and I moved over to him. I went on my knees, slowly taking the shirt off his body. I tried hard not to look at his male body. He may behave like a child sometimes, but he had a manly built body, He also smelt nice. And I hated being so close to men. It wasn't like I had any options right now.
  • Halfway through, he placed his hands on mine. "That is enough. Go to bed, Evangelina."
  • "Are you sure you don't want me to..."
  • "I'm not a kid. Please don't treat me like that. I would handle my issues on my own," he grumbled.
  • Thank God!
  • I smiled at him as I rose to my feet. "If you need anything, you can call me. But don't pick up the call like you did today. It made me scared, ok? Good night," I said and walked out without looking back.
  • The next thing I did when I got to my room was hit the bed with a thud. What a day it has been!
