• The dining room was already abuzz with laughter when Chan and Sam entered, and Chan wondered what the topic of their hot gossip was that had led to so much amusement. She noticed that Lilly, too, was grinning away happily. Perhaps Soriya had already apologized to the little girl.
• Sam went over and gave his daughter a little kiss on the forehead. “Sounds like you’re having fun.”
• “Daddy!” Lilly said. “Soriya was telling us a joke, and it’s so funny.”
