Chapter 6 A Strange Encounter

  • Regina
  • "I hate it. I hate...." I shouted, punching hard at the tree trunk. "Why?? Why?? "
  • I sighed, my leg turning weak, and I let my body get loose, lying on the grass.
  • I was so very happy just hours ago and now look at me here, angry, sad, and hopeless all at once.
  • "I shouldn't be angry, but I should be happy, but I can't," I mumbled to myself, closing my eyes. I'm trying to focus on my breathing to calm my hampered heart.
  • I need to calm down. Soon, I congratulated him for finding his mate.
  • Someone I thought would one day be mine, but now it is hopeless; he is someone with someone else, and I have to be happy for him and move on with my life, even if it hurts to do so.
  • Maybe he wasn't mine from the beginning.
  • Peter…. I sighed, trying to think about him one last time. He was my friend and my crush, and somehow I always hoped that he would be my mate. But today, the dream finally ends.
  • Maybe I was a fool to hope for the impossible. But I want him to spend his life with his one true love. He is lucky to have found someone so fast. I hope I will find mine soon. But I still have a year to finally reach adulthood, and that is when I can find one.
  • Until then, I have spent my free time on something else that matters other than chasing him.
  • Now that Peter has someone he loves, it's time I also divert my focus on the things that matter.
  • I sighed as I happily stared at the stars above my head.
  • I remember as a child when I would miss Mom and Dad, Sam would always take me stargazing, saying that two of them are our parents.
  • And as a child, I always used to believe in words and talk to the sky, thinking that I was talking to my parents. I smiled at the silly memories of my childhood, but somehow, I guess I never grew; I still have the habit of talking to stars. I don’t know why, but somehow I feel that there is someone above who is looking at me and caring for me.
  • "I wish you were with me, Mom and Dad," I said, staring at the sky. "I miss both of you." I closed with my arms wrapped around the very few but happy memories that I share with my family as the memories slowly lulled me into their grasp.
  • Everything was peaceful and calm until a loud howl came from somewhere around me. Must someone be out on a run? I thought, ignoring the growl. No one dares to enter our broader world under Sam’s charge.
  • It might be some wild wolf; he will run away soon. I thought so, but I again heard the same growling voice, this time louder than before.
  • Where is the sound coming from? I finally decided to check on the matter and followed the path that led me to the growl.
  • "Oh, my God!" I shouted, staring at the gigantic being in front of me. My whole body became immobile with just a glance. I don’t know what to do; I've never encountered something so fierce and dangerous.
  • And why the hell is he staring at me? I thought he was trying to go anywhere, but his fierce black eyes
  • I’m scared; I want to leave. But then I heard another loud growl coming from the big black wolf in front of me. And when I noticed that he was injured, his paw was caught in a trap.
  • He might be dangerous, but I can’t leave him alone in pain; I need to help him.
  • I tried to calm my beating heart, and with all my courage, I tried to move to my feet and one step closer to him.
  • I don’t know why I am so scared. For God's sake, I am the daughter of Alpha; I have Alpha blood running through my veins, and still, I am acting like a coward.
  • Be brave, Regine. I chanted that mantra in my mind as I got closer and closer to him.
  • He growls again, watching me get close to him. And I paused. "I will not hurt you; I promise. I'm just trying to help," I said, trying to take small steps until I was standing one mere inch away from him. But he growls again, this time louder, as if he doesn’t want me too close to him.
  • God, I don’t know what to do.
  • "Shhh. I try to help," I said as I moved my shaking hand to touch his paw, careful not to hurt him.
  • He is so soft. I touch him for a few minutes, trying to calm him down, and he purrs beneath my touch.
  • I can’t help smiling at his response. As I move my hand to his clawed trap, opening it with all my strength. He growled louder this time as I freed his paw.
  • See, you are finally free." I said this with a smile as I moved to touch his head. I don’t know how I found the conviction to do so, but this big black giant wolf is purring happily beneath my touch. "You’re happy, I see."
  • But the question is, who put traps in our territory so that any of our wolves could be caught in an accident? I turned my eyes to check on the trap and was shocked at how sharp it was. I then stared at the wolf with me, who is now licking his injured paw. If it were any other normal wolf, they might even lose their limbs.
  • It's a good thing he is safe now. I need to ask Sam to check for a trap like this.
  • "Good thing you are saved," I said, moving my hand to the wolf again. I don’t know why, but I like the feel of skin beneath my hands. He is so soft and furry.
  • He shifted his gaze to me, and his once-dark eyes now sparkle in the moonlight. "He is beautiful…," The words came out of my mouth automatically. I can’t take my eyes off him, but wait, he is bleeding, and I have nothing to treat his wound. Oh wait, maybe this will do.
  • I thought as I unraveled the scarf on my neck, wrapping it around his paw. "I’m sorry… I don’t have anything else."
  • The wolf turned his head towards me and licked my face. Are you saying thanks?" I asked, and he nodded his head, licking me once again.
  • I couldn’t help but smile at his gesture as I wrapped my hands around his gigantic body. Hugging his soft and furry frame. "I like you," I said as I planted a gentle kiss on his forehead.
