Chapter 8

  • AURORA'S POV.
  • The silence drags on for several minutes. My eyes are still glued on Alpha Lucien who's staring blankly at the wall. He hasn't uttered a single word and I'm worried because I think I know the answer is, he doesn't believe me.
  • Even the maid and the Beta seem eager to get his response, but none of us get any.
  • If Alpha Lucien doesn't believe me, then all my hope is lost. I can't prove my innocence on my own. Not when I'm locked up in here.
  • My heart stops when he lets out a sigh. I look at him expectantly. Hoping he would say something to favor me, but he doesn't even look at me. He turns to the maud who still has her head bowed down. I swear to God if I'm given that chance to be in this room with this woman alone, I'll beat her up so good, she'll take back all the lies she just told against me.
  • I hate her!
  • "What's your name?" Alpha Lucien asks the maid.
  • He ignored my question. Nice one Lucien. Nice one.
  • "Emilia Mark." She calmly replies. I roll my eyes hard. To me, everything that comes out from her mouth henceforth is nothing but lies. I can't believe her.
  • "And you said you witnessed Aurora kill my brother on their wedding day?"
  • "Yes, Alpha."
  • I shake my head in dismay. Where is her conscience? How could she be so brave to tell a lie of this magnitude. Doesn't she know she'll be executed if she's caught lying against me? I wonder how much she was paid for her to agree to risk her life so much.
  • This is simply ridiculous.
  • "What about her sister, Rhea? Did you witness Aurora kill her too?" Alpha Lucien asks in a serious tone and I look at the maid, eager to hear what she has to say. She just said a while ago that I killed Alpha Mael before everyone else could show up. I'm eager to hear what she has to say about my sister, because from what I've been hearing so far, it appears I killed both Mael and my sister at the same time.
  • "I…I…" the maid stutters as she plays with her fingers. She's looking everywhere else but in Alpha Lucien's direction. She looks nervous. Very nervous and I wonder why.
  • Could it be because she is lying?
  • I still think she's very courageous though. I would never have the heart nor the audacity to tell a lit of the magnitude to an Alpha when I know the dire consequences that await me if the truth is ever discovered. Whoever is trying to frame me for these murders must have paid her a hefty sum of money to do this.
  • "I…" she's still stuttering and I'm fighting my urge to laugh. "I did not see the conflict between Aurora and her sister." She calmly replies. Her voice is shaky and she's still looking around nervously.
  • I lean against the headboard and give her a critical look because this just got very interesting.
  • "Are you sure you did not?" Alpha Lucien asks again and she calmly nods her head. "But I was told that my brother and Rhea died together. That Aurora killed them both at the same time. If you were truly there as you claim, how come you witnessed only the conflict between my brother and Aurora and not the one she had with my her sister?" I look at the maid, deadpan. She looks up at the Alpha and calmly shakes her head.
  • "I… I…" Her voice breaks in half. "I don't know. All I know is that I witnessed only the conflict between Aurora and her sister." She insists and I grit my teeth. If given the chance to stand by her side right now, I'll root out a chuck of her hair and force her to swallow it. She's a lying bitch and I hate her.
  • "Arnaud." Alpha Lucien calls and his Beta steps forward. "Take her away and have her investigated. She only leaves your custody when her allegations have been proven right."
  • "Yes, Alpha." I smile as the Beta ushers the maid out of the room.
  • I felt really disappointed when he ignored my question, but after seeing him question the maid the way he did, my spirit has been uplifted. My hope has twinkled and I'm positive that if he takes the lead on this investigation, the truth will be revealed and I'll be free.
  • Why do I feel like he believes that I'm innocent, but just doesn't want to admit it?
  • I could find out, by asking him the question again and being more pushy, but on a second thought, that might be doing too much. I'm just gonna have to trust his instincts.
  • "Thank you very much." I suddenly blurt out. He squints at me.
  • "Why are you thanking me?"
  • "You asked some really insightful questions and if the investigation goes on like this, I might have a chance of being proven innocent of all the allegations against me. I'm thanking you for applying knowledge and wisdom in this issue."
  • "I'm only doing what the law requires me to do. Judge based on facts. If in the end, I find out that you are guilty of these crimes, I will have you executed without a second thought, despite the fact that you are my mate."
  • "And what if I'm proven innocent? Will things change between us? Will you accept me? Will we have a happy ever after?" I nervously bite my lips. I did intend to ask that. It just spilled out because I've been thinking about it alot!
  • "If in the end you are innocent, you'll get what you want." He rises from his seat and straightens his suit jacket. Even in all this chaos, he is meticulously dressed and looks really handsome.
  • Good for him.
  • "You still haven't answered my question. Do you believe me when I say I didn't do it?"
  • "I'll decide if I believe you or not based on facts, Aurora." He turns to leave.
  • "Can I at least see my father and Crew?" He stops in his tracks and turns to look at me.
  • "Crew, your boyfriend?" He asks tightly and I freeze on my spot.
  • How the hell did he know about Crew and I?
  • "Ex-boyfriend." I correct him. "Can I see them?"
  • "They don't want to see you."
  • "How do you know that?" I furrow my brows.
  • "Because they just demand that you be executed."
  • No. Fucking. Way!
