Chapter 67

  • I hurriedly make my way to the riverbank. My mind reeling with confusion as I thought of so many different possibilities of Henry turning up dead at the riverbank. It makes no sense as to how he would suddenly be dead. The dry leaves crunch underneath the pressure of my foot as I run through the pathway, Gage following me closely.
  • “Stand back! Stand back!” One of the guards yells at the small crowd of people that have formed a circle around the site of the incident. My footsteps slow down as I walk carefully towards the riverbank. My eyes widened on seeing Henry's pale body, his skin looking white as paper and his lips were dry, blue, and cracked. Just how long had he spent in the water before he was found? He'd been missing for three days straight, has he been under the water for that long?
  • I crouched beside his body, looking for evidence of foul play that could suggest that Henry’s death was a pre-planned murder. Upon further inspection, I see the marks. The red marks on his neck were in the right position to form a hand. Someone had strangled him. I rise to my feet, ignoring the pungent odor oozing out of his body. My gaze found his family in the corner, sobbing their eyes out. His wife is being supported by multiple people, pleading with her to take heart. How do you console someone who has lost their loved one most brutally?
