Chapter 3 Stranger Becomes Step-brother
- As soon as I got back to the club, I looked at my wristwatch and I noticed it was past midnight and I couldn’t find any familiar faces which meant my mum along with her friends could have left. After all, they needed to prepare for the wedding tomorrow.
- As soon as I got out of the club, I got a cab, which took me back to the hotel where we were staying, and as soon as my head hit the pillow I fell fast asleep.
- The next day I woke up. Up to the gentle touch of Freya shaking my shoulder, I groggily opened my eyes, and there she was, sitting beside me with a bright smile.
- "Good morning, sleepyhead," Freya chirped. "You've got to get up. The wedding is in an hour!" She said, probably excited about the event.
- I groaned, still half-asleep, and glanced around the room. My eyes widened as I spotted a pink silk dress displayed on a mannequin.
- "Oh," I muttered, realizing the significance. "I'm the maid of honor, aren't I?" I murmured. It was my mother’s wedding after all and she had made me her maid of honor without even asking.
- My mother was a dominant woman and believe me when I say she always got what she wanted! It first started after my father ended up in jail, after being arrested for armed robbery. I was ten at that time, and I grew up seeing my mother with different men at that time.
- We had to move from house to house whenever she broke up with a man probably because she found someone richer or she got dumped. At the age of forty-five, she was still one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen, which was how she managed to get into the pants of a billionaire.
- Brian Black wasn’t just any regular man. He was currently the man she was getting married to, a billionaire who owned a shipping company and airline to his name. He had proposed a month ago to my mother and she wasted no time planning the wedding in her words which was meant to be perfect.
- Brian was an older man in his late fifties, and from what I heard he had a son, Damien Black who I was yet to be acquainted with. A tyrant and billionaire who is well known for being cold and cruel, I had heard rumors of his conquest and he was well known to be the billionaire player.
- I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting him as he stays in New York and my mother and I live in London. But I knew I would meet him today.
- I snapped back to reality as Freya handed me a cup of tea. "Drink up. We need to join the bride in a few minutes." She says as she smiles at me.
- “Come on, you can’t come out looking like this. It’s your mother's wedding and you’ll do well to look your best" she said I roll my eyes. "I haven't even brushed my teeth yet."
- Ignoring her protests, I rushed into the bathroom, took a quick shower, and emerged to find Freya waiting. I delicately slipped into the pink dress, careful not to tear it, a gift from my mother for her grand wedding to her new husband.
- Sitting down in the mirror, I saw Freya already dressed. She began to help me pack my black hair as I stared at our reflection. The pink dress seemed to bring out the blue in my eyes.
- After some quick makeup, we left the room and headed toward the main suite where the bride was supposed to be. Just as we approached, my mother, resplendent in her ball dress, walked out.
- She looked stunning, her hair neatly packed and a diamond necklace adorning her long model neck. Her face was adorned with makeup, but as her eyes met mine, I sensed disapproval.
- I knew she expected me to wear heavy makeup and the diamond necklace she bought, flaunting her new husband's wealth, but I wouldn't be paraded as a symbol of her success.
- Marrying Brian Black makes us part of his family and also a celebrity.
- I stood beside her silently as we made our way to the waiting vehicle, tension thick in the air.
- The car ride was suffocating. The paparazzi surrounded us trying to get a view of the new addition to the Black family.
- My mother remained in her world, excited for her grand wedding, as she smiled back at the camera while Freya and I exchanged glances, understanding each other without a word.
- As we arrive at the venue, the opulence of the ceremony hits me. It's a grand affair, with extravagant decorations, a sea of guests, and an air of extravagance that I couldn’t quite stomach.
- Freya nudged me gently. "It'll be over soon. Just play your part."
- I nodded, steeling myself for the charade. The ceremony unfolded with all the splendor one would expect from a billionaire. I stood there, trying to plaster a smile on my face, pretending to revel in the joy of the occasion.
- Soon it was time to walk down behind my mother as we walked down the aisle to her new husband. I stood behind her as we walked while putting up my best smile for the cameras.
- As soon as we got to the aisle, I could see a big smile on Brian's face as he reached out to grab my mother's hand while holding her gently to stand beside him.
- As I stood behind them, my eyes fell on a young man standing beside me. He stood tall, with black hair perfectly shaved on his head. As soon as my eyes fell on him, I gasped.
- Gaining the attention of those around me, even my mother and her groom turned to look at me. I could never forget that face from anywhere, the memories of last night flooded in and I could swear that was the face that ate me out a few hours ago.
- I maintained my composure as everyone returned to order, but I was trembling inside, taking a look at that man in a suit, I could see the strong resemblance between him and his father. It was as if I was staring at the younger version of Brian, my stepfather.
- That's when I realized something, the man from last night was Damien Black... I might have, probably, possibly, slept with my stepbrother!
