- My blushing bride stood beside me in the St Patrick’s Cathedral on Madison Avenue, Midtown Manhattan, and repeated her vows like they were lines she’d memorized from a script. Her tone was flat and detached. She’d been like that all morning. She didn’t even protest when I told her we were getting married. Didn’t question when or why.
