Chapter 6 Zinnia Has Finally Come Around

  • Silas' eyes sparkled. “Medicine, you say? Did you really mean it when you said you could heal me earlier, or were you just trying to cheer me up?”
  • Torin said, “Of course not! I really can cure you. Silas, you and Yvette wait for me at home while l go buy some medicine. I also need to drop by to see Zinnia.”
  • Silas hurriedly said, “Go ahead. You should have gone to see her first.”
  • Torin hailed a taxi, rushing toward Zinnia's home.
  • The Lindgren family couldn't be considered a wealthy family in Hofcaster, but they did have a few tens of millions worth of assets and a bit of reputation.
  • Sitting in the taxi, Torin dialed Zinnia's number, a number he had obtained from Silas.
  • When the call didn't go through, he sighed. The snippets of memories between them began to surface in his mind.
  • During their twelfth grade, Zinnia was the most sought-after girl at Hofcaster High School, with countless admirers vying for her attention. Among the throng of boys, Torin didn't particularly stand out. He wasn't the wealthiest nor the most handsome, and he certainly wasn't the most talented.
  • One day, after their evening self-study class, Zinnia went for her usual night run as she always did. At that time, Torin was secretly in love with Zinnia. Knowing her routine of night running, he would follow her from a distance every day to ensure her safety, a habit he maintained for several months.
  • That day, when Zinnia found herself on a secluded path, she encountered several middle-aged men, inebriated and stumbling. Struck by Zinnia's stunning figure and beautiful face, they were immediately filled with lust. They grabbed Zinnia, dragging her toward the woods.
  • At that time, Zinnia was in utter despair, feeling as if her world was ending. She even contemplated ending her life. But just then, she heard an enraged roar. A young man appeared, wielding a brick as if he were a knight in shining armor, and harshly struck it against the foreheads of the drunkards.
  • Torin's eyes were blazing with fury as he swung the brick like a sledgehammer, landing blows on the drunkards. His attacks left them with bleeding wounds, their screams echoing in the air. In the end, they all fled in a state of utter disarray.
  • Regaining her senses, Zinnia suddenly embraced Torin. That evening, Torin escorted Zinnia home. From that moment on, they became lovers, a relationship that lasted all the way through university.
  • However, their relationship was met with firm opposition from the Lindgren family.
  • From a young age, Zinnia had lived a life of luxury, never experiencing any hardship. However, ever since she started dating Torin, she had had her share of trials and tribulations.
  • In her freshman year, Zinnia's father, in a fit of anger, cut off all her living expenses. This forced her to take on part-time jobs to earn her tuition fees. Every day, besides studying, she had to work tirelessly for four to five hours.
  • Thinking back on the past, Torin felt an even deeper sense of guilt. He murmured, “Zinnia, I'm sorry. I promise to make it up to you!”
  • He said to the driver, “Please go a bit faster.”
  • The Lindgren family resided in a mansion district in Hofcaster known as Riverside Gardens.
  • The car halted at the entrance of the residential area, and Torin said to the security guard, “Excuse me, sir, I'm looking for Zinnia Lindgren.”
  • The security guard gave him a once-over and asked, “Does the Lindgren family know you're coming?”
  • Torin said, “No, but please inform Zinnia. She will definitely want to meet me.”
  • The security guard grunted, saying, “Sorry, but according to the rules, we cannot let anyone in unless the homeowner calls us first.”
  • Torin furrowed his brows, pondered for a moment, then turned and walked away.
  • He knew the location of Zinnia's home. When he arrived outside the towering wall, he noticed no one around. With a swift tap of his feet, he sprung up several meters high, easily clearing the tall wall.
  • The spot where he landed was a lush green area. After confirming his location, he strode purposefully toward Zinnia's home.
  • In no time, he arrived at a three-story mansion. From behind the floral wall, he heard a voice.
  • “Zinnia has finally come to her senses and is willing to marry into the Mercer family,” a woman's voice said. It sounded like Zinnia's mother, Tiffany Zurcher.
  • Then, the voice of a middle-aged man rang out as he sighed and said, “That b*stard Torin has caused Zinnia to live without a single day of peace for years. It's good that she's finally come around. The Mercer family is a first-rate wealthy family in Hofcaster, so marrying into it would at least guarantee a worry-free life for her.”
  • The voice of this middle-aged man sounded like it belonged to Zinnia's father, Jeremiah Lindgren.
  • Tiffany said, “Yeah. I just can't understand what Zinnia sees in that pauper.”
  • Jeremiah replied, “The Mercer family promised that as long as Zinnia marries into their family, I'll be able to secure a major contract from the real estate projects they're developing. Mom has always favored Bernard and Nathan, thinking they are superior to me. Hmph, I'll show her who the most successful son really is!”
  • “Exactly! Hubby, once we secure the Mercer family's construction project, Nathan's family will surely seethe with envy! We could make in a year what they earn in a lifetime!”
  • Upon hearing this, Torin felt as though he had been struck by lightning. Zinnia was going to marry someone else!
  • “Mr. Lindgren!” Torin walked up to the front gate and shouted, “Zinnia can't marry into the Mercer family!”
  • Jeremiah and Tiffany were stunned, their gaze swiftly shifting to the gate, where they immediately recognized Torin.
  • “It's you!” Jeremiah exclaimed upon seeing Torin, his anger flaring up instantly. He glared fiercely and spat out, “How did you get in here? Get out, now!”
  • Torin frowned. “Mr. Lindgren, I will treat Zinnia well. Also, if you need help with any projects, I can assist you.”
  • “Security!” Jeremiah bellowed, not wanting to spare Torin another glance.
  • The security in this affluent neighborhood patrolled around the clock. As soon as he raised his voice, two security guards immediately rushed over.
  • Seeing Jeremiah's agitation, Torin didn't want to start a conflict with the security guards. He shook his head and turned toward the courtyard wall. By the time the security guards came after him, he had already scaled the wall and made his escape.
  • Outside the courtyard, Torin muttered to himself, “Zinnia must not be at home. I have to find her.”
  • He pulled out his phone and made a call. The person on the other end was Preston Reynolds, the head of a certain intelligence agency. Preston's little daughter had been suffering from ALS, and it was Torin who cured her. Preston was filled with gratitude toward him and was always ready to help. It was thanks to Preston's assistance that he was able to quickly locate Zinnia before.
  • “Preston, help me locate Zinnia again,” he said.
  • In less than five minutes, he received a location map indicating that Zinnia was about ten kilometers away from him. Without wasting any time, he immediately hailed a taxi and hurried over.
  • While he was in the taxi, Preston called and said, “Torin, I had my subordinates in Hofcaster do some digging. The Zinnia you're looking for is already engaged to the Mercer family. The day after tomorrow, Julian, the second son of the Mercer family, will head to the Lindgren residence early in the morning to formally bring up the marriage proposal. Supposedly, Old Mrs. Lindgren will personally receive them.”
  • After answering the call, Torin took a moment to think, then said to the driver, “Turn around.”
  • He had made up his mind - he would go to the Lindgren residence to propose marriage the next day! He would not let Zinnia suffer any further injustices!
  • “The Lindgren family look down on me simply because I'm not wealthy, so as long as I have more money than the Mercer family, everything should be no issue.”
  • He instructed the driver to head toward a traditional medicine shop in Hofcaster. After gathering a variety of herbs, he promptly returned home.
  • Once he returned home, he brewed medicine for Silas while dialing a number from his notebook.
  • The owner of this number was the real boss of some of the largest cosmetics companies in the country. His name was Sawyer Youngblood, a man who had tens of billions in assets.
  • Six months ago, Sawyer was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Torin saved his life with three rounds of medication. As a result, Sawyer held him in high esteem and proposed a collaboration. He offered to produce several medicines or health supplements using formulas provided by Torin.
