Chapter 12 The Impressive Second Hand Car

  • But he had to obey his boss, so he sighed. “Boss, may I ask, who exactly is this Dr. Yelton?”
  • Chadwick fell silent for two seconds, then said nonchalantly, “The person who saved my life!”
  • Gavin didn't ask any more questions, he efficiently drove the car to the designated location.
  • The rendezvous point was none other than the compound of the Department of Motor Vehicles. As soon as Torin arrived, he dialed Gavin's number. Shortly after, he saw someone waving at him.
  • Gavin was just over thirty, serving as a key member under Chadwick's company. His capabilities were strong and his mind was agile. He had once made significant contributions to Goldcrest Group.
  • At that moment, Gavin was all smiles as he said, “Dr. Yelton, I'm Gavin. You can simply call me Gav.”
  • Torin nodded. “Hello, Mr. Holden. Mr. Lusk mentioned that you're planning to sell your car?”
  • Gavin felt a pang in his heart, but he kept his expression unchanged and chuckled. “Right, right. I bought a car last year and haven't driven it since. I've been thinking about selling it.”
  • Then, he pointed toward the BMW 7 Series not far from them.
  • After a glance, Torin noticed the car's imposing presence. Nearly five point three meters long, it featured a silver-grey roof and a bold red body, giving it a distinct personality.
  • He nodded. “Hmm, not bad at all. Mr. Holden, how much does this car sell for?”
  • Gavin scratched his head. “Oh man, I bought this car for several hundred thousand. How about this, give me two hundred thousand.”
  • Torin was taken aback. Although he wasn't particularly knowledgeable about cars, he was aware that the price of a BMW 7 Series could exceed a million. He asked, puzzled, “Did you really buy it for several hundred thousand?”
  • Mr. Holden chuckled. “That's right, our company has a business partnership with BMW, which gives us access to privileged car purchase slots.”
  • Without giving it much thought, Torin decided that a few hundred thousand was a reasonable price for a BMW 7 Series. He planned to ask Gavin to purchase a few more on his behalf later.
  • And so, Torin managed to purchase a twelve-cylinder BMW 7 Series car for a mere two hundred thousand!
  • After the paperwork was completed, Gavin watched as Torin drove away. His face initially bore a smile, but gradually, that smile transformed into an expression of pain.
  • As he pressed down on the accelerator, Torin immediately sensed something was off. The car's acceleration was just too impressive. Moreover, the engine's roar was wildly intense, sounding much like a monstrous beast.
  • The car was both fast and steady. Zinnia, who had been silent all along, suddenly pursed her lips and laughed.
  • Torin asked, “Zinnia, what are you laughing at?”
  • Zinnia said, “Torin, your car is the top model of the BMW 7 series. It must have cost around two million eight hundred and ninety thousand.”
  • Torin was stunned. “Over two million?”
  • “Yeah, it seems like Mr. Holden is doing you a favor.”
  • Torin shook his head. “I get it now, it must have been Chadwick who told him to do this. That Chadwick, I did say it was fine to just buy a car that originally costs around a million.”
  • Blinking her beautiful eyes, Zinnia asked, “Torin, are you talking about Chadwick, the owner of Goldcrest Group?”
  • Torin replied, “Hmm, I believe his company is called Goldcrest Group.”
  • Zinnia exclaimed, “It's really him! Torin, Chadwick is a tycoon worth billions.”
  • Torin chuckled. “Really? Sounds like he's pretty wealthy.”
  • Zinnia gave him a glance. “What do you mean by 'pretty wealthy'? Chadwick is one of the top ten wealthiest people in the state you know.”
  • Torin chuckled. He didn't tell Zinnia that in the chat group he created, Chadwick's assets didn't even rank in the top ten.
  • Since it was his first time driving this car, Torin drove quite slowly. By the time he reached the Lindgren residence, it was already past ten in the morning.
  • The car pulled up to a parking space in front of the villa, next to a parked BMW 5 Series. Zinnia recognized it as her brother-in-law Wallace's car and realized Nadia had also come.
  • She whispered, “Torin, both my sister and brother-in-law are here too.”
  • Torin said, “I should have prepared two more gifts.”
  • “It's okay, we can always make up for it later.”
  • She hooked her arm through Torin's, and together they entered the courtyard of the Lindgren residence.
  • As soon as Torin stepped through the door, he saw a soccer ball hurtling toward him. With lightning-fast reflexes, he reached out and snatched the spinning ball out of the air.
  • He glanced in the direction from which the football was coming, only to find a man, about twenty-eight or twenty-nine years old, muscular, looking at him with a hint of disdain. Soon after, the man's gaze fell on Zinnia, a flicker of possessiveness flashed in his eyes, which he quickly concealed.
  • The man flashed a smile. “Has Zinnia finally returned home?” he asked as he strode over.
  • Zinnia introduced, “Wallace, this is my boyfriend, Torin. Torin, this is my brother-in-law, Wallace.”
  • Raising an eyebrow, Wallace gave Torin a side eye and asked, “Weren't you in jail? You got out quite fast, didn't you?”
  • He deliberately brought up Torin's imprisonment, just to cause him discomfort.
  • Immediately, Zinnia came to Torin's defense, “Wallace, Torin was wrongfully accused.”
  • Wallace chuckled coldly. “The law won't wrong a good person, nor will it let a bad person off the hook. Zinnia, you're still too naive, easily fooled by others.”
  • “Who are you talking to?” A woman emerged from the house. She was in her mid-twenties, with a round face and large eyes. Her figure was voluptuous and her skin was fair and delicate. This was Zinnia's elder sister, Nadia. Nadia was indeed beautiful, scoring a solid nine out of ten. However, when compared to Lin Zinnia, she fell quite a bit short.
  • Upon seeing Zinnia and Torin, Nadia's face fell. She exclaimed angrily, “Torin, how dare you show up at my house?”
  • Zinnia became frantic. “Nadia, what are you talking about?”
  • Nadia scoffed. “Zinnia, when will you come to your senses? What kind of happiness can you possibly find with him?”
  • Upon hearing the commotion, Jeremiah and Tiffany came out. Upon seeing Torin, Jeremiah was instantly filled with rage, bellowing, “Get out! Get out now!”
  • Zinnia's eyes immediately welled up with tears. Wiping them away, she said, “Dad, if you drive Torin away, I'm leaving too!”
  • Jeremiah's face turned ashen with rage. He snatched the gift from Zinnia's hand and hurled it out into the courtyard. As it hit the ground, everyone heard the sound of a shattering wine bottle. A vintage whiskey that Torin had prepared was smashed.
  • Torin wore a serious expression, he deeply empathized with Jeremiah. If he were in Jeremiah's shoes, he too would probably not want his daughter to be with someone who had been in jail.
  • He took two steps forward, looking straight into Jeremiah's eyes with utmost sincerity. “Mr. Lindgren,” he pleaded, “I know you don't like me. But please, give me another chance.”
  • A smirk filled Jeremiah's face. “One more chance? Sure! My new project requires some upfront capital, nothing much, just a shortfall of ten million. Can you arrange that for me?”
  • Without any hesitation, Torin immediately responded, “Mr. Lindgren, I'll get this amount to you as soon as possible.” The check he held in his hand hadn't been cashed yet, therefore he was temporarily unable to assist Jeremiah.
  • Upon hearing his words, Jeremiah's anger only intensified. He laughed bitterly out of sheer frustration. “Get it to me as soon as possible? Sure! But if you can't come up with ten million, don't bother pestering Zinnia in the future!”
  • Torin looked at him, retorting, “If I were to bring ten million, would you stop opposing my relationship with Zinnia, Mr. Lindgren?”
  • Jeremiah simply didn't believe that Torin could come up with ten million. He immediately responded, “If you really have ten million, I won't stop Zinnia from marrying you.”
