Chapter 10 What Are You Trying to Do?
- Unaware of the simmering tension between them, Lauren Katz approached Thelma Katz with a chuckle, "Oh Thelma, there you go again. It's fine when you're at work, but there's no need to be so serious when you're home."
- "Because you're always so serious, guys are always scared when they meet you."
- "Reuben, please don't feel overly burdened or stressed. Thelma's character is actually as delicate as a flower."
- Delicate…
- Which parts of her are delicate? If this woman is even considered 'delicate', then there wouldn't be any strong independent women in this world left!
- She only acts like an angel when she's in front of you. Once you leave, she'll erupt like a volcano.
- Just the thought of this made me tremble on the inside, hoping Lauren Katz could stay just a while longer.
- However, this hope was shattered very quickly.
- "Oh right. Thelma, did Reuben drop out of high school during his sophomore year?" Lauren Katz asked out of the blue.
- Thelma Katz was momentarily stunned but proceeded to nod her head.
- "Well, why don't you let Reuben go to school with you? Since you'll be working at the school, you and Reuben will see each other more often. With time, perhaps it might help Reuben not be too stressed out." Lauren Katz suggested.
- Thelma Katz's eyes flickered in bewilderment. "Mom, I don't think that's a good idea…"
- "It's fine. That settles it then, besides, it's not great for the son-in-law of the Katz family to be just a high school dropout. Thelma, can you please make the necessary arrangements then? I still need to get to work." Lauren Katz ended the conversation by waving her hand and hurrying upstairs.
- Please, don't go. Once you go, I'm done for.
- I begged and howled on the inside but to no avail. Too bad Lauren Katz couldn't read my mind.
- The sound of her high heels clacked against the staircase. When Lauren Katz was nowhere in sight, Thelma Katz instantly turned towards me with her eyes blazing with fury. I felt like I was faced with a demon.
- But even so, Thelma Katz did not explode right away and waited until she heard the sound of Lauren Katz's car engine revving. After ensuring that Lauren Katz had left for work, Thelma Katz could not contain her anger any further. All of a sudden, she grabbed the pair of stockings on the bed and flung them onto my head.
- "Per-vert."
- "Disgusting! You filthy animal…"
- "You bastard! What filthy thing have you done whilst I was asleep…?"
- Without a hint of hesitation, her tender hands threw multiple slaps to my face and body.
- Although her dainty hands were soft and tender, they sure could pack a punch.
- In no time at all, my face had already endured several beatings. As if that wasn't enough, Thelma Katz barbarously lifted her leg and kicked me in the stomach.
- I held my stomach in agony as my body instinctively backed away.
- I grimaced with pain as a thin layer of cold sweat broke out on my forehead. The pain in my stomach was excruciating. It felt as if my intestines were all tangled up.
- If I were to fight back, Thelma Katz would naturally be no match for me as a man.
- But in this case, I was truly at fault. Hence, I could only clench my teeth and take it.
- At first, I thought that after two hits and perhaps another two kicks, it would help Thelma Katz blow off some steam. Sadly, that wasn't the case, and instead, it got Thelma Katz all riled up for more. The look in her eyes was filled with utter disgust.
- She gritted her teeth and gave me a disgusted look. However, it felt like her hatred was directed not only at me but at all men as well.
- She lowered her gaze to the floor. There laid the stockings with a visible white stain adhered to them. Just the thought of this guy using her intimate garment for such acts of indecency made her smoulder with resentment. She abruptly stepped forward and kicked me once again. With all her might, she then grabbed hold of my hair to the point where countless strands of hair were yanked from my scalp.
- She proceeded to grab the glass that was lying on the side and smashed it on my head. Smash!
- My head spun dizzily, and my body swayed like a pendulum. I then felt a warm sensation flow down my face.
- It was blood!
- Bright red fluid started trickling down my face all the way to the corner of my lips.
- My tongue gently licked the blood off the side of my lips, which gave off a rusty, metallic taste.
- The scene that Thelma Katz had caused had woke her up from her anger, and panic flared slightly in her eyes.
- But upon seeing that pair of stockings on the bed, her rage soared once more.
- "You scumbag, you bastard."
- "No wonder your parents abandoned you, who would ever want to raise you…?" Thelma Katz berated loudly.
- Up to this point, I have been nothing but patient with her. Even when I was smashed on the head by the glass, I was still holding in my anger.
- However, the moment Thelma Katz blurted those words out of her mouth, I lost it, and my rage overpowered me: "I was brought up by someone, and that someone was my grandfather…"
- Thelma Katz snorted, "Your grandfather raised you. Your grandfather raised a piece of trash like you? Then, it seems like your grandfather is not any better himself. If not, how would he be raising a trash like you?"
- What?
- Thelma Katz's words were like a sharp dagger, stabbing me in the heart.
- Not sure if it's the blood that trickled past the corner of my eyes or some other reason, but I felt like my vision was tinted red.
- "Don't you dare speak ill of my grandfather…" I growled.
- My face was as ferocious as a beast, so much so as to have even given Thelma Katz a fright. But ever so quickly, she came back to her senses and got even more enraged.
- This person really is something else. He now had gone so far as to yell his lungs out at me.
- "So what if I insulted your grandfather? What are you going to do about it? If your grandfather raised you to be such a person, how could he not expect to be spoken ill of…" she said as she rushed over and kicked me.
- But this time, I straightened my stance and took that kick to my stomach like a man. I didn't move a single muscle, but Thelma Katz lost her balance from the kick and toppled onto the bed.
- Even though I didn't retaliate, Thelma Katz was still burning with rage. She was about to get out of the bed and take her anger out on me when she saw me stepping toward her.
- My face contorted with rage whilst fresh blood dripped down from it. I looked like an evil spirit that just came out from a horror movie. At this point, even Thelma Katz had a clutch of fear at her heart.
- "Apologize to my grandfather." There was a hoarseness in my voice as I continued to snarl, "You can insult me all you want, but do not insult my grandfather…"
- Thelma Katz was dumbfounded and scoffed, "Why should I apologize to your grandfather? Like grandfather, like grandson. If not, how would he be able to raise a punk like you?"
- These words lit up the fury inside of me. I was about to explode with rage.
- I let out a mighty roar before pouncing on Thelma Katz. I pinned her down on the bed with my body pressed on top of hers.
- "Reuben Tanaka, what are you trying to do…" Thelma Kats shrieked out of fear.
- I felt her dainty hands on my chest, struggling to break free, and that's when I got to see her 'delicate' side.
